I live in California, one of the hardest hit states for shitty economy. I was laid off my job of 9 years back in November of 2009. Thankfully I got unemployment and have been looking for a job ever since. In mid April I was informed by my roommates that their company was being forced to shut down and they would be attempting to collect unemployment also. Between the three of us the house payment is to high so they're now losing the house. They've been forced into a short sale and told me in mid May they're leaving the state come July. I have now tripled my efforts to finding a job still with no success. Two weeks ago I had to voluntarily give my car back to the finance company because I just couldn't afford to be spending $650 a month on a car (including insurance but still) and attempting to pay probably higher rent now because of having to move.
So now I'm jobless, carless and soon to be without a home.
I wake up this morning and put my dog outside and the first thing I'm hit with by my one roommate is "Did you hear on the news about unemployment benefits?"
I said "No. What's going on"
She said "Federal government just signed into office a bill that stops ALL unemployment extensions."
I said "Are you fucking kidding me???"
I now race to my laptop, turn it on and immediately pull up the CA EDD website and sure enough in bright bold letters there's the news flash.
Basically I am so fucked. I have very very little money in the bank and maybe one more check coming IF I get lucky. I cannot ask my boyfriend to allow me to move in AND support me on the hopes I'll find a job extremely soon. He doesn't make enough money for that. My only other option is to move with my roommates and pray I can get a job asap where they're heading. I would have only what's left in my account which isn't much. But it wouldn't last me long in CA. Not even a month.
I had enough on my mind to deal with let alone to now have my one and only source of income being ripped away.
I'm at a loss. My boyfriend and I just had our 2 year anniversary and tomorrow is his birthday. And this shitty news is going to be delivered to him today if he hasn't already heard.
There aren't any jobs available at all? I mean stuff like paper routes, fast food, anything to make money until something more reliable/steady comes along. But then if the economy in CA is really bad, then I bet even stuff like that is hard to come by.
