Indeed. Hopefully this is the start of a new standard.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
Idk, I could see a few with "paint" or "ornaments" being a thing, mostly birds. Like how the Beared Vulture paints its self red by rolling in rust colored earth.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
It's the sprites. When they figured out cow-tipping wasn't real, they braided their hair instead.Wain wrote:Yeah! I wish they'd been able to do that with the owlcats, musken and yaks (among others). The ornaments actually look cute on them, but it does seem weird that beasts are wandering the wilds with braided hair and braceletsValnaaros wrote:They will probably stay tamable or briefly become untamable before being assigned to a family that fits them better. I'm just glad that Blizz made an unarmored version. That way it doesn't look like you're taming a druid.

Yes, I found those a while back. They are included in the Beasts in Battle for Azeroth thread. However, thank you for being vigilant and keeping an eye out

One is a compiled list and the other is a general pet forum where pics of datamined pets can be posted, discussion about pet families, etc.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
I haven't posted for a few years, but I always follow the site and the forums, but I was too excited after seeing this Hearthstone card today...the always dependable Mastiff makes an appearance, but I notice a new type of dog here...I also notice that Bloodhounds appear in a few places in Beta, in addition to a friendly dog named Lil' Anne (literary nerd here) maybe we're finally going to see hounds at some point during this x-pac!!!!! I may die, lol.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
There are hounds that look like this

Thus far, the only ones in BfA are friendly and on the small side. Some are family pets and others are used as retrievers. I haven't seen any used in a combat setting.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
I think someone at Blizzard needs to be told what a hound is, that looks like a Collie. Unless they are using "hound" as a general term for dog, if they are doing that they I would guess they are separating the two for not taming/taming reasons. We might not get to tame these but I could still see them as a mini-pet.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
It seems to be the former. I agree that they do look like Collies rather than some sort of Hound, but I guess this is the WoW version of a Hound. And I agree on them being a battle pet

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
"Hound' is the original English word for "dog", and can still be used generically, even though in dog breed classification it's now used exclusively for a sub-group.
I believe that the model is called "Aussie", so they're supposed to be basing it on an Aussie Shepherd (which isn't actually Australian, but that's another story
). So I think that's where the collie-ish look comes from.
I'm unsure how good they'd be as large pets as they're kinda chibi / cartoony (those eyes!), but they could be fun to have. I wish they'd produced a mundane version of the dog mount - that could have been cool to tame.

I'd need to have a sheep to go with that herding dog.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
You are right, even the German for dog is hund. When I hear the word hound I think of dogs in general. In 14th-century England, hound was used as the general word for all domestic canines, and dog referred to a subtype of hound, a group including the mastiff. It is believed this "dog" type was so common, it eventually became the prototype of the category "hound".Wain wrote:"Hound' is the original English word for "dog", and can still be used generically, even though in dog breed classification it's now used exclusively for a sub-group.

This is absolutely not intended but it's kind of a cute bug while it lasts.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
I legit hope that stays, though like the sea snakes from WoD beta, the fun will go extinct at some point. We need a fun hunter pet like that, and sea turtles are OBJECTIVELY the best kind of turtle in existence. No, it's not an opnion, but a definitive fact. I'd settle for a sea turtle mount, but I doubt they'd make one anyway.

Re: Battle for Azeroth creatures
Aye, I found that back when I first got into the Alpha. Had it on my Nightborne Hunter prior to the character wipe

I highly doubt that it will stay, but it is fun while it lasts
