Which pet for dungeons?

Unread post by Quaan »

I want to make sure to avoid the typical worries I have about being a hunter in a dungeon. I greatly prefer the BM builds over marksman, but fear I'm gonna be in a dungeon and be asked to just put my pet away. To that end I wanted to see which way folks leaned (in classic that is) for pets.

My figuring is either A) go with my cat for max dps - and its broken tooth, so maybe a little caster disruption extra chance, or B) go with a wolf, cause then everyone will think well of me 'buffing'. Of course I could be swayed to C) Thunderhawk type pet for ranged attack to stay out of the mix or D) Owl for the debuff of enemies (but I fear this might pull agro and again get me frowned on).

Thoughts my classic friends?

I went with a cat for almost all of my instance runs while leveling. I think it's more important to go with a pet that you feel comfortable using. Just keep Growl off of autocast and avoid using a tank-ish pet.

Cat is good, though any dps with bite will do well. Claw is kind of a waste. Anything with screech will pull a aggro. Same goes for thunder stomp. Furious howl will not pull aggro, but it eats focus so it's better for a group or when you're am. Cats have a nice dps attack in bite, dash to chase and prowl for a nice opening attack making them good for soloing and pop. Takk the Leaper runs incredibly fast and does nice bite damage with dps stats. No prowl bonus, and I don't like the lizard sounds. Speaking of sounds, prairie wolf in mulgore barks when clicked on, and sent into combat. I like that one.

That leaves the option of a tank pet. I use the rotting agamar from Razor Fen Kraul. Charge grants a bonus to their first attack, which is great for dps. They have tanky stats, and they can pump out decent damage on single target. If you're farming low level stuff, gorillas are great to group them up for you with thunder, or you could try it with screech, though the attack power decrease doesn't make up for greater tankiness. Mostly personal preferences.
