Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
I just found out the owl steeds are feathermanes, I guess I’ll add 2 more feathermanes to my collection, so I feel sorry for the people who don’t have the tome of the hybrid beasts learned

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Going by name alone, it would definitely be chimaera, but just like how WoW uses wyvern for manticores, chimaera is probably not ta good fit for Fetid Devourer. Hydra would make sense, but it's got the same problem as chimaera; similar in name only since it has no resemblance to hydras aside from the goofy sauropod animations. I would definitely go with hydra, but if chimaera ever changed to actually be chimaeras instead of two-headed wyverns, I'd be happy.

I advocate for immersive features that will never happen. Why do I even bother?

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Chimaera or Hydra both sound cool to me.
For Chimaera, it'd probably be a weird departure, looks-wise, though. If Chimaeron is any indication, I suppose a hydra? Just a really screwy one.

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Now I have a feeling that the undead book should have a source in BFA or earlier, it would be strange cuz I can tame cloud serpents on pre patch and not undead unless I make a trial for those beasts specifically, hopefully it won’t be hard to get like the cloud serpent one which will be a grind, I’ve started doing the grind already, got to find a faster way to farm rep than just quests

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
My guess is that it won't be tamable until the next xpac. They usually do not make things in current raids tamable for a couple of xpacs. Guarm, for example did not become tamable until SL.

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Ideally, the ACTUAL chimaeras should all be in a unique family. Chimaeron, Chromaggus, and Fetid Devourer are freakish mutants that only somewhat resemble what they originally were. It's like calling your pet pigeon a Tyrannosaurus Rex; they're only EXTREMELY vaguely related in ancestry, somewhere down the line. Chimaeron is literally a stitched corpse/turtle/dragon with two heads and three arms, Chromaggus is a mutant dragon that only partially resembles a core hound in physique due to some science nonsense, and Fetid Devourer is a whole hodgepodge of animals with no clear dominant traits. They don't fit well in their current familes because quite frankly, they're not those creatures anymore. They only resemble them. For a more realistic comparison, it's like saying humans and neanderthals are the same creature. We look similar, but we're different (and they're extinct while we aren't yet).
As Valnaaros said, even if it was a candidate for taming, it's too early. Sadly.
@worgpower: It's not entirely unfair. Mechagnomes, Goblins, and Gnomes could tame mechanicals day one of that patch/expansion/whenever it first happened, and Pandaren will get cloud serpents by default. It's just a perk of those races. As for the rep, just wait for timewalking to come around again and buy those rep tokens. Or, just find confirmed spawn locations for the eggs, and farm them for a day. The rep is easy to get, just like Netherwing was, even though it is objectively tedious.

Good idea, thx, I’ll save up some timewalking badges for the rep, but I’m still doing the quests regardlessWerebearGuy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 9:26 pm Ideally, the ACTUAL chimaeras should all be in a unique family. Deadeye is tamable. Retains his name. Uses the Dark Brown Death Boar variant - the only one to use it.

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Still not sure where the claim that Forsaken can tame undead creatures by default is from. Can't everyone currently tame them regardless? Is there something about in data about Forsaken?

Gristled Hatchling is tamable. Uses the Grey Death Chimaera variant. Spawned when you kill an unusual egg directly east of the Theater of Pain entrance.

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Lorewise, I feel like it’s a good idea to restrict it to forsaken due to the fact that they’re undead versions of people, it makes sense for them to have undead pets as their own, or they should start with one instead of a spider, it makes as much sense as a goblin and gnomes(mechagnomes too) to be able to control mechs by default, I also think goblins should start with a mech instead of a crab

Gristlebeak has been added and is tamable. Uses the previously unused Black Death Chimaera w/o Horns variant. Retains name. Found directly east of the Theater of Pain after you destroy her eggs.

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread
Oh man, this thread has exploded! And they made cloud serpents tamable!!! Hooray, I’m overjoyed. I’ve been enamored by those beautiful creatures ever since I started the game back at the beginning of MoP and saw people riding them as mounts— even before I had gotten anywhere near to level 90 myself!
