Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread

Adding to the list of beasts that can't be tamed, despite beast lore saying they can, Amber Parasite in Siege of Orgrimmar. I spent too long getting here, but it was worth it to find this out.

Don't think I saw anyone report it, but https://ptr.wowhead.com/npc=65229/kyparak keeps its name when tamed.

Shalebiter, one of three azerite-colored gyreworms, cannot be tamed. Like many dungeon mobs, it SAYS it can be tamed, but incorrectly shows the "cannot be tamed" message. Finding my way past all the trash in MOTHERLODE was wasted time, boo.

I'm sure they've all been documented, but all of the beasts prior to the "Tame Beast" quest on Exile's Reach are tameable. Every Beast after the quest is flagged tameable with Beast Lore, but I don't know if there's an actual way to tame them, as you have to tame something to move on. Maybe if you grind out to level 13?

Or is Call Pet 2 something auto learned leaving Exile's Reach?

Call Pet 2 happens at level 10. It's just not shown in the book.

EDIT: Side note, but I hate how legion content is just as deadly as BfA content on PTR. Trivial enemies shouldn't hit that hard. Nighthold scorpions, as expected, are also suffering from beast lore and tame beast giving conflicting messages.

Long time lurker, registered to share that I managed to tame Zhao-Ren and he even keeps his name. I leveled the Panda to that point and tried to tame and got the "You don't know how to do this" error. I logged off and copied over one of my hunters that had exalted with the cloud serpents and ran her over to the vendor. Bought the book and used it then logged off and back onto the panda. I was able to tame him at that point so it looks like using the book unlocks cloud serpents for your whole account.

Sweet, nice find. I gave up on my pandas so I didn't check. Now I've got to go make a new panda on live, bleh.

EDIT: I got spooked hard. Went to go grab Elegon to see how it looks ingame in different areas, with toys, and all that jazz. As I killed the first boss, I walked by the stone mogu statues that attack you after god knows when (the ones that SHOULD awaken by proximity), and THEIR HEADS TRACKED ME. THE STATUE FORMS' HEADS WERE WATCHING ME. H-E-HOCKEY STICK - HOCKEY STICK NO, I'm done for the night after that.

That's...strange. I also encountered the same bug in Beta with Zhao-Ren, but Pandaren know how to tame Cloud Serpents innately, the way gnomes and goblins know how to tame mechanicals. Getting an error message saying they don't know how is a bug.

I had the same problem. I tried to solo normal Maw of Souls with a premade level 50 hunter, which is something I am able to solo on Heroic on live with my 120 hunter. The premade has better gear and wasn't able to get past the first boss. On normal.

Good point. While my Pandaren has 0 Cloud Serpent rep and was able to tame them, she was also able to tame undeads. I think they're both auto-unlocked for testing purposes, for premade characters and copied characters.

On PTR, I could NOT tame Zhao-Ren on my panda. This was before I bought the book, and on both a pre-existing panda (the one that can tame Guardian) and a new one. Once I bought the book, I could tame it as Mylura pointed out. Pandas definitely do not have it by default.

oh no, I think they fixed the small toads from Timeless Isle. I've been using my small toad (critter size) forever, and after copying the character to PTR, it's size was normal
I also have ptr-copied characters from 8.2 (they didnt wipe them) and froggo is smol there, so rip

Speaking of smoll pets, the baby direhorn is still a critter in size. I yearn for the days of when it was a baby tank.

Someone save me, I started powerleveling a panda to level 20 (equivalent of 65) on PTR to see how much faster it'll be. Upon reaching Zhao-ren, you're almost guaranteed to be level 12. Mining and Herbing both give ~2% exp per level at 12 and 13. Gonna see how long this takes now compared to the 1000~ nodes of mining/herbalism it took on live.
