Unique Waterfowl

Unread post by Naturae33 »

I saw this hunter with a mini duck. I can't find anything about it on petopia. Where it comes from? It's the cutest thing I ever seen!

From my understanding, there was a bug at the start of Dragonflight involving a quest item; not going to go into details cause of issues it caused that aren't Petopia-friendly but it got definitively fixed ages ago.

Could it have been a polymorphed pet? I can't find any baby ducks in the database that have the potential for taming. The only one classified as a beast and also flagged tameable is the Messenger Mallard <trainee> but it's also friendly.

Dialga nailed it. There was indeed a "clever use of game mechanics" that got fixed VERY early (I want to say when M+ came out? Maybe earlier). It was an exploit, though it was entirely harmless to other players as far as I have seen. I've seen other things done with it when I was leveling, but it's easy to connect it to the duck too. I don't recall it being a public hotfix, though there's a lot of things they don't list on patch notes. I just know I was having fun with it when I hit 70, and it stopped working one day after a reset.

I'm that hunter and, as said before, it was a badly coded item during the first weeks of Dragonflight. It was an harmless exploit but, since it "disrupted the game" in a similar way to the Necrolord's one, it got fixed very, very fast in 2-3 days. Nowadays it doesn't work anymore, pretty much like its predecessor.

It was possible to move outside the world quest area and tame friendly NPCs, obviously with some tricks, but now it resets as soon as you leave it.
