Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
So my little blood elf Nystindra on Nesingwary got to 80 on the first of the month with the aspiration to go and tame Skoll as the first thing to do. As soon as I dinged, I dropped Ulfbjartr (Barnabus) off in the stables and made the long flight to the Storm Peaks. Since it was around 3ish in the morning, I parked Nystindra at the spawn point just above Brunnhildar Village and logged to get a few hours of sleep, determined to start my camping later that day. As I expected, I saw nothing in those first few hours and logged to have my weekly luncheon with friends. I log back in at 2:24 only to have a night elf hunter fly down and dismount....with a freshly tamed Skoll. "NOooooo.......*facedesk and many sad faces to be had* Alright, at least now I know when he will spawn again. *Logs off and waits.*" Six hours later, I do a flyby of all his spawn points and settle down for continuous camping after coming up empty at all of them. As it got deeper into the night, I recruited Siliverin, Korii, Rumstag, and Shaon to help camp the other spawn points in hopes he would spawn. 14 hours since last tame, nothing, and I log for the night to try again later.
I had tried everything during the possible spawn time to get Skoll to spawn that first day, from offering him food and a mate, to myself as bait. Cue day two of the camping, now up to 24 hours since my only sighting. I log in half-hopping to come face to face with a big blue fluffy wolf, but instead see another hunter hovering overhead on a time-lost proto drake no less. I find out he is also camping for Skoll and then ask if he would mind grouping up to cover more ground incase he spawns. In our time spent camping together, we got to be good friends.

Day three was probably the most fun of all the time I spent camping for Skoll, but also the most hope-crushing. I log in later than the previous two days and start doing constant flybys, until I settle back in my spot an hour later. Around that time, Sphinx (fellow camper) logs on and I recruit Siliverin as well to go about our camping. It was now up to 40 something hours since my only sighting of him. Of course, we tried everything we could think of to make Skoll spawn, including me yelling "WE HAZ TWENTY BACONS, SKOLL!" in party chat and Siliverin doing a Skoll voodoo dance. It was also on this day that the infamous Footmourne was borne, the Skoll group became known for a brief period of time as the "lucky charms gang", and I found I was not so good at making nature-type documentaries. We even developed a code for if something spawns.
"Is there bacon in the fridge?"-Has he spawned yet?
"Bacon om nom nom."-SKOLL HAS SPAWNED!
"TACO!!!" TIME-LOST HAS SPAWNED! GIT YER BUTT OVER HERE AND LOOT!
For all our silliness though, the day became a repeat of the last, with no one seeing hide nor hair of the elusive blue beastie. At this point, I'm fairly certain I've missed him again and the camping starts to feel more like a chore than a "he will eventually spawn here" mentality. I log off feeling a bit depressed and pretty sure I'm starting to lose my mind.
Day four, I log in with an ultimatium for myself. I would camp Skoll for three more days (give him a week of camping) before I would go and tame his sentry worg mate instead and try for him again with the expanded stables. I mentally count the hours since my only contact and yell at Skoll in the guildchat as well as letting them know how long it's been. Sinnocent offers to help, and starts camping at the cave spawn point, while Siliverin is camping at the frozen lake. A few hours later, Sinn logs for the night and I notice in my hopelessness I did not even bother to group up with the people camping to help me. I throw Siliverin an invite and we go back to camping like always. Soon, Siliver had to head to Daralan so I resumed doing constant flybys browsing my spellbook for entertainment. At that point, I realize I still haven't trained in my level 80 skills and decide "Ya know what, Skoll? I don't need you. I'll just go get your lady instead. >:]" So Siliver gets back and offers to circle the spawn points while I fly off to train and tame Auðdis (Old Norse for destiny/fate priestess). I train, tame the lovely little lady, start really loving her color changingness, but decide I am a glutton for punishment and start flying back to camp when....Npc-scan goes off for Hildana. I remembered a theory that killing rares would trigger others to spawn, so I figured, "Why not?". I swoop down, kill her, and wait for Siliverin to fly there since she had never seen that one before. We chill there for a bit, and then head back to camping while I summon/desummon Auðdis for her color changing awesomeness at my normal camping spot. Weee....pretty colors

Right, so that was my long-winded nerve jittering, loss of sanity. Thank you everyone of my guildies that helped camp, I know you probably had better things to do than spend hours staring at the same spot. 69 hours between my first sighting and my tame and most of the time I was on, you guys/ gals were right there with me. Thank you so much for that! ^^
Now for the screenies!

Auðdis only turned white two times in my short time with her. Here and when I let her go for Skoll.

The P.Dawg shot I tried to get myself out of the picture completely, but sorta failed with that. I don't think Ketch minds too terribly for a little hijaking.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
I know, right? She's level 20, the same level that hunters get freeze traps. No problem, I thought. I'll just ride Babykalli up there to tame her once I ding.
The journey was fairly uneventful, with the exception of passing by the Petopian hunting party waiting for Takk. I arrived in Darkshore and started heading west along the road into the southernmost forest. There she was with her babies, waiting for me. I freeze trapped her and dispatched the hatchlings easily. A quick scatter shot on the mother as she broke out and a re-trap, then I started my tame.
That was when I realized that I'd terribly underestimated her.
I'm used to tame beast having a much shorter cast time, due to haste. Even fully specced into longer duration traps, the tame beast channel still outlasted the trap. The clutchmother lashed me the moment she broke out of the trap, interrupting the tame. She then cast dust cloud, so I couldn't scatter shot her to get away, as that attack missed.
Clutchmother 1, Kalli 0
I ran back. Thankfully, the graveyard was right there. I tried to start further back this time, and at full health. Unfortunately, she nailed me with another lash-cloud combo the moment the trap broke.
Clutchmother 2, Kalli 0.
This time, I had a res timer. Ugh. I tried something different, putting the trap about halfway between her and me. This attempt was closer; the timer almost finished when she lashed me. I got the scatter off and fled before she could kill me again.
Clutchmother 3, Kalli 0.
I mustered all of my Krush-taming patience for this attempt. I figured I'd just have to get lucky on her not casting lash after she broke the trap, so I might be there a while. Thankfully, THAT attempt was the one she chose not to cast lash on. BlueBoy was mine! (He's paired with my Pinky.)
I am significantly humbled by the experience, that's one thing for sure.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
After doing some casual reading I came across a macro to /tar (rare pet) etc. spam macro while in pet spawn area and bang the macro whispers pet found if pet in area. So at lvl 76.8, I created the macro for Gondria and flew by the spawn site. BINGO! there was Gondria! So I queued for a the weekend bg, lvled to 77 in the bg and upon return Gondria is gone.
After further reading, Arcturis sounded like the greatest thing since sliced bread. I added Arcturis to the macro along with Loque and continued on my happy way. Once hitting lvl 80 on July 4, I dropped MM as my secondary spec and picked up Survival spec just to try it out. I continued to run BG's because in order to pick up lvl 80 pvp gear. While in Survival spec, I see the frost arrow and think to myself "what a great mechanism for taming pets".
On July 5, Anvella was camped between Sholazar and Zul' Drak looking for Loque or Gondria inbetween hitting the weekend bg. I flew by the Arcturis spawn site just for giggles when traversing between the sites. I say this because whenever I flew by one if not two hunters were always campled at the Arcturis spawn site.
Now for the drama: I am spamming my macro and bang Arcturis is there. I fly down drop my current pet and attempt a tame forgetting all about the frost arrow and open with an arcane shot. The reasoning behind this comes from my previous problems with people killing a pet during my tame attempt. I read that by shooting the pet first it is tagged and therefore no good to anyone else if they do kill it. Arcane shoot, attempt tame = nothing happens. My auto shoot goes off and I frantically attempt to turn it off. Attempt tame again = nothing happens. Then I noticed a screen announcement that says "this animal can not be tamed" or words to that effect. On top of that, Now I am at about 1/4 HP and Arcturis is at 1/2 HP, so I feign death.
What the heck is wrong? OOOOH YEA, I have to be in BM spec in order to tame Arcturis! I quickly respec BM and mana up all the while fully expecting a hunter or griefer to swoop down and grab Arcturis. Well that did not happen. After getting in the right spec, the tame went rather smoothly.
So, I really think this is not only the best tame of the month but probably the best Nooooob tame of all time.
Thanks!
Edit: 11:22 = Tamed Gondria WOOT. However, I still haven't done my before the lights are turned off flyby. I run over to Sholazar and do a round of the spawn sites "nothing". I leave Anvella hovering over one of Loque spawn sites and run off to the bathroom because the reality of having two spirit beasts is settling in. When I get back, BANG = NPCscan goes off (thanks to the postings on Petopia, I downloaded the addon) LOQUE! I quickly dismount, stable Gondria, pull out Azzere the Skyblade and abandon. Drop frost trap, shoot Loque to pull him out from all the gorilla's patting around and tame. 11:45 = Loque tamed. I am sooo excited I think I am going to puke.
Edit: 12:10. Did my goodnight flyby for Skoll "nothing". However, this could be some hot info: I seen a hunter flying around and asked if he had any luck finding Skoll. He said, "No, a horde just killed him about 30 minutes ago. WELL! This would indicate that Loque, Gondria and Skoll all spawned within moments of each other. Today was maintenance day, so maybe the spawns are syncronized. Then as they are tamed or killed the respawns become more unpredictable and unrelated with each other as time elapses from the maintenance restart. Something to think about.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
Now, I'm sure you're thinking "Oh. Well, how could that be so hard, it's just a cat." Until yesterday, that's what I thought too.
I had tamed a ghost saber previously on my main, and decided to get one for my alt as well once she reached the proper level.
The night started with a ride to Silvermoon, teleport to Undercity, zepplin to Ogrrimar, and (so I had figured) mount to Darkshore. Well, that last bit is where the first problem began. The problem being that I have absolutly no sense of direction. So, I started off and got hoplessly lost within the hour. I came to the Petopia forums, begging for help. And I got it. It was told of the terribly OBVIOUS path that I could take and started out all over again (because I'd hearthed in frustration). I made my way all the way up to Darkshore, all the way to the tip of the region, picking up a temporary pet along the way.
I spent hours and hours killing Naga and opening statues, and none of them were giving me a cat. After God only knows how long, a statue FINALLY spawned a cat. I set my current cat on it, dump it, and set the trap. Somehow, though, my idiot cat had also started attacking a naga, so now I have that on me and a ghost saber in a giant ice block with the timer ticking down.
Needless to say, I died.
I made the long run back to my body and rezzed. I go to sit down and eat, but I realize I'm being attacked. I turn around and see the ghost saber! I drop a freezing trap and start taming. Right as the timer goes off, the cat dies. Just my luck, the tame didn't take for some reason. I was sitting there, screaming in frustration, annoying my mom and sister. I couldn't figure out why it died at first, nothing had been hitting it. And then I remembered. Duh, DESPAWN TIMER.
I slammed my computer shut and stalked off.
The next day, my mom asks me if I'd mind helping her with a mage quest. I say sure, so long as you'll help me get this pet.
We do the quest, and go, with no deaths along the way for once. We get there, and on the second statue, a cat pops up. I dumb the temp pet (I'd gotten another), and my mom drops some sort of frost trap thing before I can drop mine. I figure, no big deal and start the tame. Nest thing I know, tame breaks and my mom is being attacked. I'd forgotten that if it gets distracted the tame breaks. I tell her to STOP ATTACKING and let me aggro, but by the time she does, it has next to no HP left and I'm out of mana. It died.
So, we start looking for more statues. By this time, I'm getting seriously frustrated.
I end up with 22 statues before another one pops up. It was insane. And these were just the statues from today, not any were from the day before.
In short, it was a real pain, and I almost gave up. I would have just kept that stupid moonstalker runt and gone off to cry in a corner. Luckily, my mom was persistent and had this weird obsession with getting me my pet.
It ended happily though, with the actual tame going... almost smoothly.
Anyway, screenshots!

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
I connived a friend into taking me since he was the one that convinced me to reroll on Ysera. Yeah, I'm really good at guilting people, dincha know?

Anyway! He was level 70 in pvp welfare epics and I was just around the mid 50s. We died oh so many times. I mean, over and over and over. If I was even remotely thinking about a mob across the dungeon, it aggroed on me. I think I used FD every time it was off cooldown. And the spider area. Oh god. To this day, I'm haunted by images of spiders, just flocking onto us and overpowering us. The nightmares. (Ok not really, but it was very, very bad.)
In the end we did get to the worg pups and I did tame one... The sad part is, I only had that worg for a few weeks. The teeth just annoyed me so much I couldn't keep 'im. *sigh* I don't think my friend knows how quickly I abandoned him.

I'd add screen shots but I was a noob back then and screen shots weren't even on my radar. So I guess I don't qualify for the competition, but hey! I got to share my shameful tame.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
The battle for Icecrown seems to be well enough off in the hands of others. Though I saw the battle in the throneroom, my regiment was not able to take down Arthas that day. I've heard reports from others that he has been defeated. but they are still sending in wave after wave to ensure the defeat. Arthas does not go easily. For myself, after suffering through that gmomish engineering accident that left me a dwarf (damn fool gnomes, trusting their teleporter to parts made by goblins) it's time to pull back from regular duty at the citadel, there are younger stronger bodies for that. Perhaps I may still heed the call there again, but for now, it's time to get used to this dwarven body, and work on some skills that had been neglected. (I still can't even speak like a proper dwarf... that barkeep in Loch Modan still won't serve me.. the nerve..)
Day one:
A crowd was huddled around the notice that was newly-plastered on the wall near the pet trainer in Ironforge. It stood out, since not many visited the trainer anymore. It was causing quite a stir, since it was posted by a horde. A troll even. Hrmmpph. The troll must have gotten in during the last attempt to kill the King. Strange enough, the troll was making an offer that was open to Alliance hunters as well. Perhaps there was still Northrend ice in that troll's brain, but the troll was offering 1,000 gold coins for the greatest epic hunter pet-taming tale, and it had it be a recent tame, so my epic tales from my early hunter days would not be something he was interested in.
What could I tame that would be so epic that it would allow me to pry that gold out of that troll's hand?.. I had to think about that. But as the fates would have it, sitting among the gnomes at the inn in Ironforge (apparently this barkeep had been talking to that barkeep in Loch Modan. He didn't throw me out, but made me sit at the gnome table.. might have been better to be thrown out..) the gnomes were telling a strange tale of a gigantic purple parrot that they had seen in Sholozar basin. Well, it might not be that epic, but it would be better than sitting here at the gnome table, where I couldn't even get my knees under the table. I hopped up, opened up my transporter to Northrend, and was off after that parrot.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
Previous to that, I had been hunting Loque and if possible, Krush for 2 weeks (prior to my tame, I had never seem King Krush on my server anywhere). I spent hours upon hours in Sholozar, flying in circles, sitting at spawn points waiting, watching gold farmers kill gorillas in mass for some reason...
Finally, around 10pm on a monday night, my rarespawn addon began screaming at me as I flew around, with a holographic box of King Krush popping up. I freaked, having never seen him before on live servers, ever. I immediately swung around, looking for him beneath the tree line, and I saw him. I dove down in a rush, dismounted, hit BW, said goodbye to my pet, and began the tame. Needless to say, in my rush, I had not cleared the surrounding mobs, and as I reached the final 5 seconds of the tame, I had King Krush and a cat gnawing on my face, so I fell over dead. Frustrated, I ran back as soon a possible, healed up, and caught up with the great, green beast just outside Nesingway's camp. This time there was no other creatures around to interfere, I began the tame again and it was going so smooth. I watched my BW timer tick down, 4 seconds left on the tame.....and all of the sudden, Krush turns away from me?! Apparently the local guards dont take kindly to giant dino's near their camp, and proceeded to kill my beloved would-be pet. I was SO angry...
Thursday, of the same week. The hunt still goes on for Loque and/or Krush. I had since learned how to make a macro with my keyboard to auto-tame, in a sense. Basically I set myself up to auto-target the rarespawn and begin taming (which turns me towards the beast automatically, so direction didnt matter) with the press of a button, and parked myself at the eastern spawn point near the gorillas, completely safe from aggressive mobs.
Anyway, it's thursday morning. I set my macro up and was leaving for work, and as I reached my door, I heared my rarespawn addon begin screaming. Already!? I ran back to my computer to see the huge, green form of King Krush walking away from me. I didnt even know he could spawn there! As I ran to set up my tame, my macro was still active and began auto-taming against my will, and I barely escaped death before I could turn it off. I grabbed a gorilla, drank a Haste elixer, a Haste potion, used my engineer tinker for Haste on my gloves, everything haste-related I could think of and began the tame. Beastial wrath was down to a 12sec duration, tame was 14. I would have a 2 second window of no protection. I counted down nervously, and I guess ol Krush was too, because as soon as the 2 second window opened up, he feared. And killed me. But I would not be outdone, and my next attempt I got him

But wait, there's more.
I parked myself back at the gorilla spot, glowing with my new green devilsaur. I swapped pets with Call Pet (I think that's what it's called) and turned on the macro and left for work, happy and 30min late from my battle with Krush. From what I had read, the rarespawns shared spawn timers, so my next chance would've been around 1pm. Fast forward to 12:45pm, I rushed back home to look for Loque. I walked in and heard an odd ping from my computer every few seconds. I looked on the screen and was confused....there was a spirit beast next to me, it looked like Loque, but it was tamed. Was someone taunting me? Wait....the macro....worked?! Yes indeed, I was fortunate enough that Loque spawned in the same place as Krush, in range of my tame macro, and the macro succeeded

Not such an epic story with Loque, but after 3 weeks of hunting night and day, I'll take it lol. Krush was the true epic tame for me

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
So, I really wanted to tame the Beast. I recruited a guild shaman and we ran through the dungeon, killing everything (or I did before asking, as she did have a life). Finally we got to the Beast. Unfortunately, my trash pet was wasted on an early try, and I had to use a pet very close to me - Kael. It was a challenging tame - the hardest three seconds of my life were when Beast Within wore off and I just needed luck, three seconds of luck, to get my dream pet. And finally...a great red beast stood at my side, roaring his defiance. But that wasn't the good part. It also wasn't the part I have screenshots of, except of him already tamed

The moment the Beast rested in my stable, I said thanks and went to Netherstorm. I settled myself down to retame that Warp Chaser, Kael. I hated Netherstorm, having had spent hours camping Nuramoc there with no luck. So, with a sigh of defeat, I had abandoned that. But I had to come back for Kael...While I was taming him, I was a bit distracted because all his new buddies decided that nomming on me was fun. But I was still looking at the screen long enough to see a great purple chimaera fly straight over my head. I quickly finished my tame, killed the other warp stalkers, and looked around. Where had the patrolling chimaera gone? Thankfully, I had recently purchased Epic Flight, so I whistled to call my great bronze drake, Epidormi (whose training might be cheaper in Cataclysm). I frantically scanned Netherstorm, and I located my dream-pet. The great purple creature roared his defiance as I fluttered in front of him on Epidormi, and then landed, quietly whispering words of kindness and love to the bloodthirsty chimaera.
It was the hardest 18 seconds of my life, sitting with him, hoping no one would hurt him as I tamed. He was no danger to me, considering his level...and soon he was a danger only to the Horde 8D I named him Odin, of course, to go with Loki, The Beast.
And so Loki, Kael, and Odin are together.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
I'm not good at writing epic, or long, but I'll post what happened to me with my Worgen tame. It's called "Abandon, Mana up, Wait."
After hearing that you could tame a worgen, I just about flew into hysterics. Immediately I was logged onto my dwarf, Rassaa, and running (Not flying, I couldn't get her Cold Weather at 70.) towards the Howling Fjords. A tamable worgen! Worgen! Of course, by this point, I hadn't looked up HOW to tame him. I just thought you smacked him until he turned worgen, then hit tame. Easy, right?
No. After waiting for him to respawn, because there where two other hunters already trying, I found out that taming him in worgen form makes him turn into a Saber Worg. Shoot. I tried hitting him with a DoT so I could start the tame when he's a worg and end it when he's a worgen, but again, no dice. What gives?! Desperately I searched the web. How to Tame a Worgen was pretty popular, it seemed, so I found a guide quickly.
...and died a little inside. This sounded complicated. Wyvern Shot, Serpent Sting, % health, timing, exact-second-button presses.... Fel. Well, I'd be damned if I didn't try it. Luckily I had Survival as my spec at the time. I found the worg, shot him a few times, hit Wyvern Shot when his health was -Just- at something % (I forget the number, I think 27% or 47%) and hit tame. He went worgen before the tame ended and I ended up with a saber worg. Fel! I ate and drank, and waited for him to rez again. A few minutes later I tried again, this time shooting Wyvern shot and hitting tame a bit earlier. Again he went worgen and I had another saber worg. Bloody heck. Abandon, mana up, wait. Even later I wyvern shot'ed and tamed. This time he didn't even shift to Worgen. Oh come on! Abandon, mana up, wait. I tried shooting it just a tad earlier and failed miserably at gaining a worgen. Abandon, mana up, wait. I checked the guide a few times to see if I was doing it wrong. Nope. I tried shooting a littler earlier then last time. He turned worgen -just- as the tame ended. YES! AAHAHAHAHA- wait. That looks like a saber worg.
FEL!
Abandon, mana up, wait.
I was getting sick of it. The next time I just shot at random. At random I ended up with, you guessed it! A saber worg. Abandon, mana up, wait. I tried again, almost the same as the near-succesful time, and tamed him too early. Abandon, mana up, wait. Again, this time a little later then the near-succesful time. Abandon, mana up, wait. I was reaching the end of my rope. Maybe they had hotixed it already. Maybe I was too late.
I shot Wyvern sting a fraction of a second earlier, and hit tame. He turned worgen at the same time as the gold light lit him up. No! I had been too early. Aban-
AMG FEED HIM BEFORE HE RUNS AWAY! HUG HIM AND LOVE HIM! AMG!
Needless to say, my time with Roghar Thornrender the Worgen will stay as some of my better WoW memories.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
Can't help ya.
the only tame I have a ssc of is after i tamed King Dred, but that was months ago and actually felt routine due to over preparation. the most recent epic tame was Arcturis, but that was back when he first was implemented. My stables are full of unique and rare pets and each one i remember the tame. And even legendary tames of days long past like Broken Tooth, or the solo taming of the Blackrock Worg for Bite 8 and the Zul'Gurub Bloodletter bat, or the fiasco that occured when Sian-Rotam didn't take too well to the death of his mate and chased my guildmates around the field while I tried to keep up.
I got dozens of stories, but none fit the rules. maybe i'll find something nice to share in the beta, which probably counts as epic enough.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
But he said he was friendly with the furblongs so he couldnt help me if I got attacked. So as we made our way back to the furblong camp, I got PWNED by level 53 mobs. Got in pretty far but I still died.. Zin used his cables to shock me and rez up only to get killed as soon as I did. At this point I had a broken helm and my gear was breaking, so he said screw rep and went hated with the group so that I could get in and out of moonglade (and get the FP to). We went all the way back to the first spawn point of Olm and there he was! I went at war with CC, put down a trap and hit tame beast not realizing I still had my pet with me he just wasnt WITH me. SO wondering wth is going I realized I still had my pet, I called him and sent him on his way to play in felwood and hit tame again. And now hes mine and got a gender change and is now Yuki. It means snow in japanese... I was going to keep him as aboy but Yuki fit perfectly and alas I had to castrate him and switch parts so now hes a chick. Again.
So thank you to Zinagaro for helping me!!
I aslo tamed Daggerhawk on this char. DId a run and got all the way to the point without dying (at level 51.. in howling fjord is pretty sweet)
tamed him.. loved him.. and then stared at his gimpness.. was sad cause I cant get his skin back until much higher. Sad sad sad.

When Karathyriel turned Level 10 and went to tame an Elder Springpaw which he christend by the name of Gerethay.
It wasn't only a tame. It was a bond, a friendship. And now, that I've quit the game, somewhere, deep down in the dark corners of Blizzards database, Karathyriel and Gerethay will rest together in eternity.
