It really bugs me, that alliance get the cool looking undead gorilla and the horde only gets Rezan. I already have the risen gargantuan which is a nice fit with Rezan but i would like the gorilla more. But i like raptors and always had an eye on that T'Zala so i will get that one first!

I think Horde have the cooler Grong, personally lol.

Grong (living) stands out by being the first gorilla to use an entirely new model. His posture, animations, and general design are significantly more realistic compared to the goofy cartoon gorillas we had prior. He's got an intimidating design while looking gentle until enraged, and for Alliance players, he stands out because he willingly gives up his advanced intelligence in order to help the Alliance siege Dazar'alor. Grong's kin are being poached by the Horde, and he wants to see that his people can be safe. He did not believe himself capable of becoming strong enough to help, but his power is amplified by a Gnomish device that they straight up warned him would potentially make him lose his intelligence. He chose to go forward with this despite that risk, all because he wanted to help the Alliance. He was a real G(orilla), and he did his part in disrupting the Horde during the siege. Of course, this was sadly short lived when he was killed and then raised by Bwonsamdi. From a story standpoint, Grong is without a doubt an Alliance-oriented tame. His benevolence and once-intelligent nature, coupled with his majestic look, leads him to be a very appealing newcomer to the stable.

Grong the Revenant, the undead form available to Alliance, is just a zombified gorilla. Sure, the glowing eyes and spooky bones are interesting, but he's literally just "an undead gorilla". No story behind it or anything other than Bwonsamdi deciding to throw it back at the Alliance. This essentially tarnishes Grong's soul, because he's being forced to fight his friends. You can obviously save him by taming his remains once that feature goes live, but that's it. We have plenty of wretched ghouls and freaky monsters to tame already, but the gorilla family has long since needed a fresh dose of content. Grong is everything that the gorilla family needed; a new look, a new model, and a new style. It's purely subjective as to which one is better, but what's objectively true is that Grong is the first unique gorilla model, and it's a damn good model.

Plus, take a look at how they look from the front. Vanilla looks goofy, Grong looks majestic, and Grong the Revenant looks like every other undead beast. Went on a bit of a rant, but hopefully this is good enough insight as to why some may prefer the living Grong's design over the Revenant's design. As an Alliance player, I want the living Grong for both reasons; that he looks cool, and that he WAS cool.

Funny thing about the gorilla situation is we got those funky looking gorillas to replace the superior old model, and one patch later we get a very realistic looking gorilla with the exception of the tusks and mane. Grong makes the BFA gorillas look bad, Grong will be a tribute to the vanilla white gorilla I loved

Thanks a lot, @WerebearGuy, but alliance Grong is not for me My stable is already and for a long time at max capacity and i am going to have a hard time finding a place for Rezan and T'zala and we are not even talking about the upcoming TWW pets. I do not get Blizz when it comes to stable size. Yes, i know, we all started with one pet but it is feckin' 2024 and we are in the 10th expansion.
I guess i (or we) are a minority when it comes to stable size. Last year i started a friendly thread on the official german hunter sub forum and asked for a larger stable with good arguments. All i got was comments like "didn't know one can have 200 pets lol" or "what do you want with so many pets?" and "i have a normal wolf and a random ass clefthoof". Literally space for hundreds of battle pets (got 850+ myself) but they keep the hunter's most precious, the stable, on a short leash. This is frustrating.

Stable size is a topic that I can see both sides from. On one hand, yes; we really shouldn't have such a small limit since we can have up to (I think) 1500 battle pets total. On the other hand, hunters don't NEED the space, and what we got is already a huge amount of diverted resources. By all means, there's no real reason for hunters to even have more than two pets at most; it's almost entirely fluff content since there's only really three pets; Ferocity, Tenacity, and Crap. It's a straight up blessing that we've gotten so much love from the tiny handful of developers who actually care about fun stuff like this when they have no need nor reason to do so. On the less negative side of things, we really do need a better type of stable. As you brought up with battle pets, hunter pets should have more room for the player since it's basically a collection of bigger battle pets. Battle pets are random non-player models that can be caught, have a small amount of attacks that can be toggled, and they have Pokemon-styled type advantages. Hunter pets have all of this except for types, instead option to have three families that focus on different roles. By all means, hunter pets ARE the original battle pets.

It would be nice to have more space for sure. Especially since hunter pets are nothing more than bigger battle pets nowadays. We're way more loved than warlocks though. Poor class only just got table scraps with all the recolored models and the loss of best boy Observer. I'm nearing 180 stable slots used, and TWW is gonna have me near capacity before the first content patch lol. I think I should start pruning my stable sometime.

Hunter stables are character specific. Battle pets are not just account wide, but battle.net wide.

They are two completely different things storage wise.

And with hunter pets, there's more data stored too, like how their action bars are laid out *per spec*, which abilities are set to auto cast and which aren't, what combat stance they're in, etc.

Good news; our wonderful lurker managed to get the BfA tames pushed after the extended maintenance. Let's give our thanks for this feast before TWW launches.

EDIT: Still can't do cross-faction versions of Battle For Dazar'Alor. Horde can't get Grong the Revenant, and Alliance can't get Grong.Hopefully that gets fixed eventually, I want the living Grong.

Found Man-Eater in Havenswood, and it's tameable. Retains its name when tamed, so that's a nice bonus. Best frog.

EDIT: Turns out Man-Eater was NOT listed on Wowhead as being able to spawn on Havenswood. Might wanna mark that down in its note. I'm constantly going back and forth on Havenswood runs to try to find the other toads, but the spawns are so rare lol.

I want to say something here. I knew it. I wish I could be home to tame Grong, I’ll definitely tame them next weekend, and Ill start playing war within by the time it actually releases, I’ll just get the tames done then do the xpac

I also just want both, gorillas are the next best family aside from scalehides, and what’s better than one ultimate gorilla, two different ones, is it just me or does it bug me a bit that Grong the revenant has a much smaller Mohawk than Grong

Unfortunately Rezan does not keep its name after taming, at least on EU, but i changed it to Rezan without a problem.

Edit: T'zala keeps its Name, and it looks absolutely stunning!

I found Colossal Spadefoot, but sad news; it does NOT keep its name. It reverts to Hopper like any ordinary toad.

Cool. So of the loa toads, we now know;

Green
- Man-Eater retains its name
- Colossal Spadefoot does not retain its name
- Toxinbelly Croaker does not retain its name
Blue
- Thundercroak retains its name
Yellow
- Bogbelcher retains its name

The other two frogs, Whiptongue (blue) and Yaz'za the Devourer (yellow) are the only loa toads from Island Expeditions we've yet to see, though they are flagged tameable on the database. Just a matter of finding them and finding out if they keep their names. Since Man-Eater spawned in Havenswood, I wonder if all of the loa toads can spawn there. Driving myself crazy doing that island though.

Was trying to get the Loa frogs when I saw something funny. A Congealed Azerite was flaged as a beast, not tameable unfortunately.
