The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Both worms and the baby salamanders have been hotfixed to be untameable. The models have remained, so it could be these have been grandfathered. Here's hoping!

I hope they are. All of the bugged tames thus far that I have managed to get were patched out and fixed or removed. Be nice to have one

I hope my eel stays with me, I still have my baby mammoth, so I might as well keep it too as a rare vintage pet

The worm getting fixed makes sense, I'm always disappointed when things like the salamander are fixed. I really hope they revert it.

Doubtful. Blizzard doesn't like babies being tamed. Best case scenario is the model doesn't get reverted because they're busy, they will likely never be reflagged unless Blizzard oddly changes a very steady course they've been on since Vanilla.PrimalTazza wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 6:37 am The worm getting fixed makes sense, I'm always disappointed when things like the salamander are fixed. It's finally time for everyone who didn't get Early Access to finally get out there and play. Go tame all the things, friends!

I really REALLY want one of these interview people to point blank ask why it's okay for us to pit babies/cute creatures against each other TO THE DEATH, and in some cases, against full grown dragons and other animals (legendary pets). But forming a bond and befriending it to help fight alongside you is somehow crossing a line.
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
For my guess it's got less to do with morals and more to do with some of the models looking pretty bad being blown up to hunter pet size lolMaizou wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 1:51 amWhich, as I said is silly.Dialga wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 1:42 pmDoubtful. Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Baby models are always a hot topic. It's ultimately up to the developers on what is and isn't intended, and while we may not often agree with the developers' choices (if ever), they do have the final say. With that said however, they've definitely given us things that really shouldn't be hunter pets. The following are examples of lax "rules" when it comes to what is and isn't tameable;
- Proto-Avians from Birds of Prey are a giant critter model
- Domestic Pigs from Boars are more or less high quality critters
- Coursers in general are a really odd choice since such animals are not used for hunting
- Foxes can sort of be justified since they are predators, but they're basically predatory critters
- Gruffhorns are goats. Goats are prey animals.
- Hoppers/Toads. Again, higher quality critters.
- Numerous mechanicals are critters. Chickens, sheep, rabbits, etc.
- Monkeys.
- Moths are, yet again, large critters.
- Most Rodents, especially the Rock Mice and Skunk.
- Numerous Stags, such as Does, gazelles, reindeer, and so on.
- Waterfowl. Ducks are unhinged monsters, but they're not hunting beasts. Nor are Cranes.
- Silk Worms are 100% a critter model. You can't even defend this one at all.
Let us just be happy when something we like becomes available, if only for a brief time. Let us simply pray that the devs don't detect fun like they did with the Dreamway Pup and Tundra Vorquin Foal.

I love the Lynxes <3 sooo fluffy
I especially like this color, the amber one would be cool too, but there isn't one that can be tamed

The baby salamanders actually look great even at huge size.Dialga wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 2:08 amFor my guess it's got less to do with morals and more to do with some of the models looking pretty bad being blown up to hunter pet size lolMaizou wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 1:51 amWhich, as I said is silly.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I've noticed that many mole NPCs received extra looks - probably late in the Beta after I last checked them. These are mostly just extra variations in nose and/or teeth, and not really extra colours, so some colours remain underrepresented. I don't have time to go through and update the site tonight but I will tomorrow. At least 8 NPCs have more looks.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I'm afraid they look like cartoon animal balloons to me. Same with baby bears. Many baby models have been given a chibi design and look really exaggerated when scaled up.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Worrying about looking silly full sized in dumb anyway considering how many really low poly models are still tameable. You can tame the giraffe and that thing's got less polygons than a single strangely detailed foot of xal'atath
