The method is actually really simple, and this only works with Stone Hounds (AFAIK). I'm not sure I'm allowed to say how to do it on here. And yes, my pet functions completely normally, all skills work etc.

Edit: Water Striders also work.

Decided to try for myself and i'm crying
This case also happens for non exotic pets flagged as exotic like beakers, tephratennae, and Tula’rhun, I decided to collect a few looks and I hope it’s ok to use them any time
Edit - for some odd reason, I can tame Dragonflight rhinos on survival, but can only use them on BM

Ahem. So after some testing, Water Striders also work.

I think I figured it out, and it’s quite strange, I’ve tested every exotic family, most of them fade after five seconds from switching specializations, except for stone hounds and water striders which were odd. I thought about it throughout this weird testing journey that only the exotics added during MoP work in other specs, in this case Quilens (now stone hounds) and water striders

That's really strange that some do and others don't! I'm really curious what the difference is 🤔

I really wish they'd get rid of the exotic family restriction.

I actually used a quilen in a dungeon queue as a survival hunter to farm the rocket, nobody cared to notice but it was so funny. Using a Stone hound and a water strider works the same way as beakers, tephratennae and Tula’rhun. I wish those particular npcs could be used by other specs, switching a spec back and forth to use them is time consuming. Even though they are not a cool looking devilsaur or a spirit beast, it brought me joy that I can use these pets to a degree on my main

Hi,
Nice to see someone else found this trick! I stumbled across it by accident once and thought it was patched. The fact that skills still work makes it surprisingly viable for some niche setups.

There’s a lot of non exotic pets with exotic tags that use the same methods as this one for stone hounds and water striders, stone hounds are very good in delves if you and your pet can survive, if it dies you cannot resurrect it as SV or marksman, I learned that the hard way for visions with masks
