Patch 12.1.0 - Curse of Ula'tek

Post by WerebearGuy »

With 12.0.7 out, Blizzard has released a Wowcast video detailing what players can expect in the upcoming 12.1 patch, Curse of Ula'tek. To nobody's surprise, it's all snakes! Sorry for those of you with ophidiophobia, because this patch might just hiss you off.

Confirmed New Pet-Related Content:
- Flying Serpent: chimaeras with serpent heads, feathered crests and wings, and glowing undersides. Comes in at least 4 colors.
- Writhe: Serpents that use the Grovecrawler animations, but resemble a coiled mass of snakes. Comes in at least 2 colors.
- Wind Serpents with brand new designs, including four wings and glowing tail ratles. Comes in at least 4 colors.
- Hydras with a feathered central head, two featherless heads, and a craggy serpent design with glowing green cracks. Comes in at least 3 colors.
- Skunks, having two new skins.
- Draenor Boars, Amani Eagles, Capybara (rare), Dragonflight Turtle (rare), and possibly more with a permanent cosmetic poison aura.

Current PTR Bugs:
- Chimaeras, often called Flying Serpent, are potentially misclassified as Serpent.

Never thought I’d ever see a feathered chimaera, let alone a chimaera snake. Honestly they all look cool. The hydra is very neat and makes ton of sense, I wonder how the wind serpents will look ingame

There are WAY too many colors of the various snakes, but good news for my rodent lovers out there! We got proper skunks! Also the rare Lockjaw is a turtle that has an old model, but keeps the cool green poison effect when tamed!

EDIT: Ravenous Seabirds have the same green glow on tame.
EDIT 2: All the green glowing beasts keep their glow, neat. There's also boars.

Finally a proper skunk. The snakes look epic when tamed, I love how the models have feathers and the ground model is like a snake with tails coiled together

Friend I was on PTR with raised a really good point. The chimeras are currently classified as Serpents, and that kind of makes sense since this is a snake patch, but he also put forward that the chimeras should be classified as Wind Serpents since they can fly. That makes too much sense and now I kind of want that too lol.

Wow looking at the hydras from here they look amazing. This is the cool hydra expansion, i also looked closer at the ground snake and it looks like a few snakes bundled up together into one. If the two headed chimaera snake stays as a serpent or wind serpent I’ll be going to places, if it moves to chimaera I won’t mind too much

The bundled serpent creature is called a Writhe ingame.

Also, Ula'tek will likely never become tamable since it is just half a model. It wasn't made with a lower portion to its body since she is meant to look like she is partially submerged in venom pools.

None that we can find, no. The crest feathers are on all the snakes, and the craggy armor is always there on hydras.

The skins found in delves are also not unique to the delves, but like the current Season 1 delve tames, these also brick their objective when tamed.

Considering there’s not much different variety of beasts coming this patch. The models make up for it. I’ve never seen such polished reptiles, let alone snakes with these models. I love the combination of different scale colors and feather colors, I thought trigores would take the crown for new hydra model, but this new one takes the cake (I don’t count mandragoras as new models of the xpac, but they’re still goated)

Ahhhh, that's a dam shame.
Kinda kills my interest in em.
It's one of those features that instantly throw me off.
Like houndoom in pokemon. It doesn't have ears. Weirds me out.

Fair, but I personally enjoy the feathers. Always loved feathered serpents, so this is right up my alley.
