New users and post moderation

We seem to have been targetted by a spate of new spam accounts in the past 3 days.

I've taken the step of requiring posts from newly registered user posts to be subject to moderator approval before they get posted. This only happens to users who are flagged as new, and after a few approved posts they become regular users. It's not as friendly as the old system for genuine newcomers but it sadly seems to have become necessary.

It shouldn't affect anyone who is a regular user, but please let me know if you notice any issues posting.

So far it's working. I've already intercepted a few attempts by new bots and banned them before anything could be posted. It shouldn't affect regular members, but please let me know if anything unexpected happens!
