Hello all! (and let's talk Spirit Beasties)

Unread post by Ellaran »

Hello everyone! Long-time lurker, recent fresh meat! Love Petopia and glad that us hunters have a place to be.

I bring a gift: my five current pets. Yes, I have all four of the Spirit Beasts! :D And quite a tale that was. I tamed Gondria first, three weeks ago. A week later, I found Skoll, Arcturis and Loque in less than 10 hours (in that order, too!). Talk about an adrenaline rush. Here they are, with my fifth pet and first Exotic.

My lovelies :3

Speaking of Spirit Beasts, I'm sure we all remember the "let you collect the many SB's of Azeroth!" part of the stable changes post. What are your hopes about it, and what do you think Blizz will do? A SB for each family of pets, scattered around both old and new zones and throughout the levels? Considering the huge talent tree changes, that might be a possibility, along with allowing BM hunters to tame them as they level instead of waiting.

I'm hoping that we get more unique models for SB's, or at least unique skins like Loque and Skill have. Ghost cats and ghost bears don't really feel "spiritual" to me.

How is a ghostkitty or a glowbear not spiritual? I mean, Loque is a constantly vomiting mutant-cat. How is that spiritual?

Anyhow, no need for me to go into evilmode now. Gratz on all the spiritbeasts, you're lucky to have found them in such a short time!

If you haven't figured it out by now, Saturo hates Loque.

I think we are going to see more spirit beasts spread around in old Azeroth. This would fit in with us ((Most likely, this is still speculation!)) being able to tame exotics from level 10.

I agree on wanting more "solid" pets like Loque and Skoll. Those are my two favorites, because I can't see their eyes/teeth thru their behinds!

(Saturo really hates Loque, btw)

So I noticed XD Ah well, I know Loque's not appealing to all.

The families I'm really hoping for to have SB reps are Silithid, Chimaera, Devilsaur, Wind Serpent and Tallstrider. Maybe since they'll be in the lower continents they'll have more varied skins and effects, like a magma-skin, a rocky skin, a watery skin, a shadowy skin, etc etc along with the appropriate effects (fiery mist, bubbles, leaves and petals, bits of lava or rock flaking off).

Neat idea...like, say a spirit stag that leaves growing plants behind it druid-style.

Hey, Saturo...by vomiting do you mean the mouth opening and shutting animation it does a lot? If so, why don't you hate the riding tiger models? They do the same thing, I've noticed.

That'd be cool, like the spirit creature from Princess Mononoke. Heck, they could name the Spirit Beast stag after him =D

Wind Serpent whose body is made of electricity
Bird of Prey with an air/ethereal body
Crocolisk with a shifting liquid skin
Gorilla with a stony skin
Worm with a magma skin, dark with glowing veins

Nope, he's constantly comiting blue stuff. Even trough his eyes.

I don't have a problem with eyeglows. It's the fact that the eyeglow is spewing from his mouth as well.

Loque is also a mutant. Skoll is just underfed.
It's the way they did the eye/mouthglow, combined with the fact that it's the same effect in his mouth. He's either got a third eye in his mouth, or he's vomiting trough his eyes.

I like the ideas that are getting tossed around! I'd be camping that stag for sure, and the wind serpent with Skoll-style lightning... :D

I think a stag would make a beautiful spirit beast. They seem like very ethereal animals in the first place, especially the white ones near the Draenei areas. They just seem like a very well suited creature for it. :)

We've wanted stags for a while now, though. Doesn't even have to be a spirit beast.....

Oh absolutely. :D I'd like a stag no matter what, but I do think they'd make a beautiful spirit beast. ^^

Speaking of which though, I think that spirit beasts present a really unique opportunity. Since they can be any type of beast physically but all have the same abilities, Blizzard could technically choose any animal they wanted from the game and make a spirit beast version of it. Even if that particular creature wasn't from a tameable family, it wouldn't matter since it would just get the same attacks and power as all the other spirit beasts. Then hunters could go after a few pets they've always wished were tameable but aren't.

That's what I think they should do anyways. :3

In that case, I want a nerubian spiderling spirit beast.
