New talents - rotten talents or rotten tooltips?

Unread post by The Insect Man »

Hmm. Having been massively underwhelmed by the new talents, I do wonder...

look: a lot of those talents that used to go to 5 now go to 3 or 4 - but while you'[d expect the top talent level to be the same in both cases, what I see is that the level matches the old 3 or 4 point level. Examples:

Bestial Discipline - was 5 points to 30%, now 4 points to 24%
Frenzy - was 5 points to 5% now 3 points to 3%
Efficiency - was 5 points to 10 focus, now 3 points to 6

so... are our talents just worse than they were before, or is it that Blizz haven't updated the tooltips properly?

Anyone seen anything on this?

I think the talents are not properly configured yet. Blizzard have also stated that early tier talents will not be big expenses, yet Improved Tracking is still 5 points on tier 1.

But another thing to keep in mind is that our gear is getting a lot more oomph on it with more itemization points. We're looking at level 78 green items that rival or exceed 25 man ICC gear. So we may take a bit of a hit in talent strength but gear will compensate. Maybe; that's what it seems like right now. But I do think the talents are not yet done nor anywhere close to being so.

that level 78 item won't help the poor level 40 hunter whose pet Frenzy sucks :) Unless we get it free with the spec, like Intimidation.

I am concerned about what will happen to all classes, 80 or otherwise, once the new talent system is introduced. Because it has been pared down, no additional talents added, and with a talent gain every other level, everyone is going to see some loss of what could be considered core talents. Even at 80, we're going to lose talents in order to maintain our top end spec ability.

Basically, with no new additions, everyone is going to have subtractions and only at 85 will the balance be restored.

As long as it's not left up to M. Night Shyamalan. (Sorry, I just thought of that horrible movie with that sentence)

I never watch the credeeets.

@ Veph: Atleast I can say one thing about his movies. I'd still watch them over a lot of the remakes hitting screens now. Or the gore horrors. Urk.

... So! About those tooltips! :D

That's an excellent point! Even if they have the talents laid out where they want them -- and shoot, even if the effects are where they want them -- it's quite likely that the tooltips are lagging behind.

I have my doubt's about that. Blizzard has stated that there are only a few classes whose talent tree's aren't pretty solid right now. Hunters were firmly on the 'solid' list.

Believe me though, I am really, REALLY hoping that this is a tool tip screw up.

Well, we've got a Twitter session coming up...someone ask them! We've got all these concerns and a chance for those concerns to be voiced straight to the devs. Let's do our best to make those questions "attractive" enough to them to answer during the Twitter chat. At least a few of them, anyway.

Here there be dragons... http://dragcave.net/user/Tahlian

And here there be more dragons, too...http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=22415

Even if these talents are what they intended, it's still early days. I imagine we'll see a lot more revisions to come before Cata comes out.

I feel like it's becoming a bit of a catch-phrase for me, but ready for testing doesn't quite mean done. ;) I suspect that that's the case here.

Agreed.

Just because the TALENTS are solid, that doesn't mean that the TOOLTIPS are.

They'll catch up.

This unfortunately may not be the case :/ mean everything else is basically the same, I'm doubting they're going to fix a 3 point talent to give 1/3/5 or something like that.

Why did they remove the speed boost from Kindred Spirits anyways.
