Indescribable Heat Wave

Is anyone else having an abnormally hot and long heat wave? Here in Finland it's been over 30 degrees for weeks now (mind you, our normal summers tend to be 25 degrees at most and it doesn't last for very long...) and almost every day there's a new heat record somewhere.

Unfortunately I live in a former attic, so the space between my room and the roof is minimal.. Thus all the heat the sun is putting to our roof is heating up my room like crazy. >.< Add that up with a single small window and no effective way to cool the place down, it's like living in a sauna. The only good way to get rid of the hot air is to keep the window open at night so it's nice and cool in the morning - until the sun starts warming stuff up again.

Do you have any good ways to cool yourself down when it's extremely hot? If so, you can also share those tips here. :D

I'm currently sitting in front of a fan, with a wet towel on my shoulders. *ahhhhhh....*

Yep, same here in germany.

Incredibly hot and having all windows on one side of my apartment doesn't help either.

19 up here, which is actually fairly average. Souther Sweden however is having the heatwave. If you want to cool down, I suggest swimming in a mountain-lake. That's cool water.

And Redith, airconditioners in Scandinavia heat up, instead of cooling. It's necessary during the winter.

Luckily we got a conditioner that both heats up and cools, so at least it's cold downstairs - too bad I can't have one in my room. :P

Also our Internet just overheated, so I had to transfer my fan to cool it down. XD Have to live with just the wet towel now.

Edit: Aaaaand there comes the long awaited thunderstorm. Good thing it comes now and not when I had to take Sonata to the station. XD

It's been pretty hot here in Alberta, though lately we've had the relief of some awesome thunder storms. In the summer it averages 30-35C, and in the house it can be brutal.

Blurg, in Michigan it's been pretty hot too. Quite usual, though. 80F (27C) average with a few weeks in the 90s (32C). The highest it ever gets here is 38C and that's rare, hasn't happened this summer. Last summer was really, really cold, almost like we didn't have a summer. Between 20 and 23C. It wasn't fun.

Edit: The jetstream has been messed up this year, though. It's strange.

It's been pretty nasty in New England too. Very continually hot, usually in the 80's and 90's, and gross and muggy to boot. The only times it's cool are usually during and right after thunderstorms, but it heats right up again.

It's annoying, I like to walk a few miles every day and with the heat this bad I can't unless I want to risk serious dehydration Means I have to go walk in the evening just before sunset, and even that demands a cold shower immediately when I get home.

Cooling tips? I soak my hair sometimes with cold water; stays wet for a while and feels good. I know exactly how you feel, since my room is also in a converted attic, so it's BRUTAL up there. I usually bring my computer downstairs for the day to play/work on it just so I don't have to be up there in that oppressive heat. But soaking my hair helps at night when I go to bed, so you can give that a shot.

I feel for you guys. I don't handle heat well at all -- which is why I live in Florida. Everything here is air-conditioned year long. I consider it a kind of macro thermo-regulation for me.

It's the first heat wave northern NY has seen in three year's. Course I am more used to NC's summers, where it's about ten degree's warmer on average, so I'm alright.

Here in the north eastern coast of the US, it's been quite hot. Three days of 90 degree heat, several days in the high 80s. x.x Oi.

We are actually having an unusually cool and wet summer here (South Dakota). I don't think it's gotten above the mid 80s (which would be 29 C), which is odd for mid-July. By now, it's usually over 90 (32 C). It's rained so much that there is standing water everywhere and has been since spring. It's not unusual to have some in May/ beginning of June, but by this time of year things have dried out and are hot. Normally.

It's close to the same here in Nebraska, however today was crazy... It got up into the hundreds easily... I feel bad for all my friends who had to Detassel.

We've had a horrible heatwave here... With the humidity we were up around 50 C... That was just one day though, but the humidity has lingered. We're kinda in a valley (not really, but the weather dynamics follow that same pattern) so we get extended periods of stagnant weather and humidity, amplified by the St. Lawrence. It gets nasty sometimes. The whole city just smells sweaty and smoggy.
