I love my Shaman, he's Restoration with an Elemental off-spec. I enjoy raiding with him so much more these days than I do with my Hunter (I only raid as Resto).

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS JUST MY VERY OWN OPINION!

I'm not sure about the upcoming changes from Cataclysm, but here is my advice:

Warrior: In order to have one of those, you have to get used to keep an eye on your health and always have potions at hand. Skilling your first aid skill and cooking, in order to have bandages and food to make your downtime shorter is a must! But then, you'll have a pretty badass mail/plate wearing kickass toon that will be looked for. Keep a shield in your backpack (Tanks - You're welcome!) because the skilltrees are not that important in the lower levels.

Shaman: I thought it would be nifty to stick some pieces of wood into the ground and cast some spells but boy, was I wrong! While leveling my shaman as enforcer, I nearly never used totems at all, except when I did pull 3+ mobs or took on an elite up to 2 levels above me. Healing spells FTW! It's been a bit boring in the beginning and I have to admit that the fun starts at level 40 but shaman still is some really bad buttkicker!

Druid: You have to have patience with the druid. First, you play a hunter without a pet, then, when learn to transform into the bear, you play a warrior until you get to transform into a kitty, playing a rogue from that moment on. I never played a druid up to level 80 but somehwere on their way, they seem to pick up some nifty skills and talents as I saw my friend do some really cool stunts with his druid, almost as cool as I did with my shaman. He said, he leveled only in the lazorowl-specc and had some fun with that.

Warlock: I don't know... When you start off, you'll just cast some shadowbolts. Then you get your first demon and he casts along with you. Then, finally, the VOIDWALKER! But from then on, the warlock went downhill for me... badly! You have to be really careful not to pull aggro from your demon. Then you get OOM pretty fast, meaning you have to switch life into mana and then steal life from the mob (which costs mana again!). Then you have to heal your demon and drain life from the mobs again, because you give your life to the demon. When you drain life, it costs mana and you have to turn life into mana again and....
AAAAAAAARGH!
Leave me alone, will ya?

Rogue: If you like to play unfair, you'll probably like him. It takes a while to get the talents and skills but as soon as you've learned to keep your enemies victims knocked out while you slice'n dice them, it starts to be some helluva funtoon. The only thing I always cursed about is that you are always tempted to go invisible and sneak past your enemies victims instead of fighting and killing them. It so cool and you are so proud that you could pull it off until you realize... No XPs for sneaking!

I didn't play the other classes any further then level 20something, so I don't dare to talk about them... ;)

I fidn it easier to play with draintanking, which basically means going Affliction with a Succubus and tanking the mobs with Drain Life (specced to reduce knockback) and Life Tap. If you do it right, you won't have any downtime. Letting your voidie tank is slow, but at 50 when you can go Demo and get a Felguard, the lock plays far more like a hunter.

And what do I do these 40 levels from getting my Voidwalker until getting my Felguard?

Hehe, aye. I recently started a lock that I'm determined to level as Demo, and at 35 I can pretty much agree with you. The voidie is a horrible tank, draintanking is pretty much your best option before 50, and even after that I like it a lot.

I say jump in and try new toons. What excites me may be boring you to tears. I have a doomchicken druid, shadow priest and mage besides my hunter. Love them to pieces, but my wife couldn't stand playing her mage. Likewise, my buddy loves his warrior and to me it was like watching paint dry when I tried leveling one. Just try them all out and see where you have the most fun.

Enhancement shaman is really fun (and uses the same armour heirlooms as a hunter, in case you have any) but only really comes into its own at level 40ish.

Honestly, if you can get a druid or shaman over the low levels, both are incredibly fun classes. I think with the new dungeon finder I'd be tempted to spec healer at first, and just run dungeons and PvP until the later 30s! Druid needs cat form to be fun (Level 20, and I'm biased because my first toon to 80 was my feral druid). Shaman needs patience to be fun until they get a couple of key skills and they are suddenly AMAZING all the time.

I don'tthink you should just throw being a healer priest out of the window bcause you think you'll be bad! I remember making aa shaman with my friend and he told me to go resto while he would choose one of the other dps specs sometime last year, I asked him "isn't that the healing spec?" and he said "yeah, you'll get loads of groups"...Well at first I didn't listen, and specced into the other dps spec he awasn't.

So I get a few levels and I go into DM. For some reason the healer leaves so the tank then asked me to heal and we would 4 man it. Keep in mind I was specced into dps. But we done just fine, with no wipes! Yeah I left it close sometimes with the tank getting under around 100 hp but that's to be expected in the wrong spec.

Anyway, I enjoyed that experience so a year later when I decided to play my shaman again I decided "Hey, I done quite well healing in that DM last year in the wrong spec. I should be pretty good in the real thing?" Now i'm a lvl 68 resto shaman with around 4 or 5 wipes under my belt (Most of them weren't my fault too!). So you should definately try a healer class, seeing as it's a different role from what you're used to you should/might/will learn more about WoW, which is what you wanted!

I think to understand wow more I need to level a new class. . I need some class with substance, some level of complexity. Im not sure druid is right because once you pick a tree, your either a healer, DPS or a war, so why not just be the real thing? I wont play a preist cause Im sure id suck at healing. Any recomondations?
If I were you, I'd give priest a chance.

A. You don't HAVE to heal with a priest. You can go shadow, and they do very good DPS.
B. I always thought I'd hate playing a "clothie", but the bubble makes the priest that much easier to play.
C. I always thought I'd suck at tanking, but when I got my level 70 paladin over to the same server my priest was on (both heal spec), I decided to start tanking with my paladin. And guess what? I get a LOT of compliments on my tanking ability. So, just because you THINK you'd suck, doesn't matter you WILL suck. ;)

Sometimes, giving something totally outside of your comfort zone is pretty fun. Good luck with the alt! :)
