Here's an old shop trick that works pretty well in the muggy 90s and 100s we have here now. Take several bandanas and soak them in cool water first thing in the morning. Fold them into neat strips and put them in the freezer. As the day gets worse, start taking them out and wrapping them around your neck. As they defrost, resoak and put back in the freezer before putting the next on. Works like a charm.Safrienaer wrote:
Do you have any good ways to cool yourself down when it's extremely hot? If so, you can also share those tips here.
I'm currently sitting in front of a fan, with a wet towel on my shoulders. *ahhhhhh....*

You know how long I stared at this, trying to figure out how you fold a banana?Vespias wrote:Here's an old shop trick that works pretty well in the muggy 90s and 100s we have here now. About as long as I looked at it trying to figure if I spelled bandana wrong? Heat stroke is a wonderful thing what with all the scattered brain activity and the colors and.... SOMEBODY GET THE DAMNED CHAMELIONS OUT THE THE SHEEP PEN!!!... the wonderful illusions.

Ketch and I are just north of Boston, MA. We're along the coast and the heat here has been incredible. Now heat I can take, as long as we don't inch up into 90 degree weather, which we have been doing. I'm happier when it's 80 or so. But the humidity has been horrendous.
We only keep AC in one room and when we step out of that in the morning, the heat is a like a slap in the face. But the dampness, swampiness, muggy-ness, that wet blanket air has crept into my joints. My knee-the bad one with issues-aches from it constantly. Honestly, I could be done with the humidity and would love a dryer heat.
And if doesn't help that my PC's monitor is ancient and huge and gives off heat like a small sun.

Re: Indescribable Heat Wave
This thread is great for checking out the way weather patterns move around the world.
My wet and miserable winter weather moves over in about 36 hours to ruin Cowmuflage's day. Weather in southern Australia and most of New Zealand moves west to east.
If Im right, the opposite is true for the same longitudes in the north, such that USA/Canada weather is just recyled from northern Europe a couple of days before.
Our southern summer here was record breaking in several ways but didnt feel to me as hot as some i remember from my youth. Its been 13 years of drought so this wet winter is desperately needed.
Summer temps generally range from 27-35 c with a few scorchers up to 46-48c.
Winter daytime max is usually about 10-15c, with a few miserably cold ones that are ~6c.
