Turgus wrote:Ok! I am back with my review of my "mismatched pet," the Corehound.

To start things off, I have been trying to tame the Beast solo for about a month or so, with three other runs with untold attempts at taming him, all ending in failure.
Now that I have that out of the way, I went into UBRS with almost 900 haste (892 to be exact,) with several stacks of speed potions (an extra 500 haste for 15 sec,) and with my Hyperspeed Accelerator (another 340 haste for 12 sec) on my gloves I figured it would be easier "This time." (I mean come on, with all of that I had 1732 haste for 12 seconds)

Oh, it was far from that... I got punted around like a football at the World Cup.
(he punted me again many times about 3 seconds after his original punt)

After giving up on using trash pets, running out of speed potions and thanks to a little lag which made my feign death not go off when I pressed the button and therefore continued the tame spell for just a split second longer, I finally tamed.... THE BEAST!! Wooohoo!!

Ehem.... So back to the "suggested tasks"

1. Try tanking an 80 elite with your pet
I had him tank a 79 elite (That Exiled Giant in Storm Peaks) He didn't do to well, but then again he was just lvl 76 and is a ferocity pet. (This should count, that 79 elite is exceptionally "elite")

2. Level it a level or two
Did that, it was kind of nice to see my new "puppy" running around and burning things, lol.

3. Do a heroic
Passed on this one, I did a level 80 instance and he did ok... his dps was abysmal, but he was level 76.

4. Do a battleground
I passed on this one too, I do BGs as survival now days, and my BM spec is my "raiding" spec. Go ahead and laugh, but I am always do a good showing, generally out-preforming the other hunters by 500 dps or so, unless they are far better geared than myself. (Yes I pug ICC raids, and the best hunter can always be found there :P) ..... (end rant)

5. Check the pet out in different lightings
I went into Zul'Drak and he pretty much looked the same, just in the shade.

6. Check out swimming and possibly levitate animations (if any)
He did the doggy paddle... but there is something wrong with a flaming corehound swimming underwater....

7. Get a screenshot of you and your oddly fitting or entirely mismatching pet!
I attached a couple of screenshots.

All on all, he is now a new member of my stables and he isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Thanks for motivating my to go and try to tame the Beast "One Last Time." :)

Oh, and I forgot to write what I named the Corehound... I named the big guy "LootMe" Watching him stomp around and burn things brings back fond memories of the old MC days....
hehe i love the pics mostly the second one like karma said looks like you 2 set the building on fire! remind me ot watch out if ever on your server :D lol jk jk :) btw love the name, i miss them good ol mc days..

Oh, ok. I think I've seen that in action, it always ends up with the hunter's name in the beginning, since you're actually the one emoting.
Yeah, it'll usually say something like "Silinrul's pet boar Dhaundax runs happily in circles," or something to that effect. If you're using it and your pet emotes to you, it'll just be "Dhaundax runs happily in circles."

It will usually just emote the pet itself, but sometimes if you have an npc or player selected, it'll emote to them too. My cat has growled at some gargoyles I was fighting before, my hyena sniffed a questgiver's hand and grinned at her, etc etc.

This seems like such a neat idea ;^;

I hope it's not too late to do this, and thanks in advance for taking the time for it, Acherontia<3

I'd like to give it a go~

Unji is my hunter, her main spec is SV offspec is BM.

Her current pets are:

Rex-Image

Pip-Image

Vertigo-Image

Frederick-Image

as much as i LOVE crocolisks, i really would like to avoid them.
I just released Charlie, my old croco, to make the room. (i never ended up using him. i simply ADORE him, but he cannot replace pip for me. pip is just too unique and has clicked with me so well >< )

Thanks again!! n_n i can't wait~*~*~

I'd also like to add....
PLEASE no bears, lol ~_~
i really.. i just don't do them. sorry bear lovers ; ;

This sounds like a fun idea!

Sadly I can't really partake in it on my 80 hunter since it has a full stable... however.

I would love to do it on Voojah, my level 33 Troll Petopians Hunter :D

He currently has:

Bakjah - Strider Clutchmother
- Echeyakee
- Orange/yellow Windserpent
-

Currently have 4 stable slots. and one is full up and will never change (My Clutchmother).

So, roll 'dem dice, please and thank ya'. ^-^

Name: Jengi
Species/skin: Black tiger, Pitch from Sholizar.
Level: Got him to 77.
Screenshot: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jyFJzg015L4/T ... 52343.jpeg <- I really like this picture.

Thoughts on appearance: Jengi was very pretty, elegant and strong. I like his black coloration and pretty green eyes. However, something about him just didn't look right with Rassaa. As cool as he looked fighting worgs, I found myself wanting to call out my red lynx. He just seems a little... boring. Also, when I look at him from the front, his mane makes it look like he has no body. I don't like how segmented his mane is, and his tail looks awkward. His swim animation is boring as well. Jumping he looks neat, pouncing. As for sound affects, I do really like his idle roar/yawn, compared to my quite red lynx.

Thoughts on ability in dungeons: Not so great, at his low level. I have a cat, though, at 80 - no wolf, but still fairly good.

Thoughts on ability solo: Pretty good at taking aggro and keeping it, pretty great damage. I can see Prowl being useful, especially on low level characters who want to scout an area, but I never got to use it. He had lots of fun slaughtering worgs and worms. I'm not sure how he would do tanking an elite - I tried with my lynx to solo Chillmaw once and got exploded. In fact, the only pet that ever managed to keep me alive on Chill was a worm.

Overall thoughts: A good pet for someone else. For me, however, he just doesn't fit. As much as I like his appearance and idle roar, he just doesn't fit the character. I've left him ruling over the worg cave in Storm Peaks and I won't be going back for him come Cata.

Fourths? ^.^ Rassaa, 80 BM/MM hunter. Red lynx, red hyena, tan coyote, OCJ.

Okay, second challenge!

For Taigi's pet challenge I also needed to free up a slot. I let Owakeri, my blue-black carrion bird, go free outside of Undercity. He can help protect the undead borders and there's probably more to eat there than at Descolace.

Next I headed up to the Hinterlands to tame a Silvermane Stalker. I used to love how these guys stealthed (even if it hurt a LOT in the 40's when you wandered into half a dozen by accident) so I figured I'd go with this version of the skin.
wolf1.png
wolf1.png (1.02 MiB) Viewed 1689 times
I named him Jinsoku, after a wolf character of mine from my worldbuilding. He eats meat, which is what most of my stable eats, so no inconvenience there. I'm not terribly fond of the worg skin as a whole, mostly because of how they walk. I prefer the old-world wolves first, and the Northrend worgs more than the old-world worgs (at least they're spiky). But I'll give this guy a shot.
wolf2.png
wolf2.png (1005.34 KiB) Viewed 1689 times
I'm not terribly fond of his run and walk animations. His swim is kinda awkward too; he only seems to move his paws when he doggie paddles, not the rest of his legs. His emotes are fairly cute though (more like a dog than a wolf) and I actually enjoy most of the noises he makes. His color matches my tauren, who is black-furred with white spots, which I do like, and he has pretty steel-ish eyes.

Taigi's not 80 yet so I can't do heroics, but I did run a regular instance--Nexus. He did alright and went up to 70 here, so I guess I leveled him some too. I didn't really notice a dramatic increase in my dps, but as it's changing constantly every time I get new gear or level this really doesn't mean anything. No complaints from others about him, obviously, since he's a wolf and thus THE standard running pet.

Did some Kalu'ak dalies with him as well. He holds aggro kinda badly, but considering he's a lower level than I am, that's only to be expected. I did not learn anything especially huntery from him, since I've been using mostly ferocity pets since I started with the class.

He does take some lovely photos and looks nice in several settings. I did have fun thinking of places to screenshot him. His color does change slightly depending on where he is; his undercoat looks grayer in certain lightings.

Overall though, this just isn't the pet for me. I might consider another wolf family skin at some point (maybe one of the old world skins) as they seem to go very well with tauren, but it definitely won't be this guy.

Anyway, Taigi'll take one more challenge! She's still 72 and still BM, lol. Again, her pets are an outlands raptor, the blue/green serpent, the color changing ravager, and Humar the Pridelord.

Hey guys! I'm amazed at how good Skitter looks in bright light... Also, gratz Turgus on the Beast tame. I figured you'd go for an easy (well, easier!!) one, not The Beast :D For all the other pets--turtle, chimaera, wolf, bears etc--I'm REALLY surprised at how well some of you seem to match these utterly random pets. Maybe it's just good screenshot-taking skills, but they look great!! "STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE!" With Soterios holding one hand out, and hearts spewing forth--LOVE it XD I also love the Silithid's name--Twitch :D AAAND I love the pic of Pitch in the dark cave, that's a really great screenshot!

Ok so here is my essay on the white tortose
For a tanking pet he does well. He holds aggro as well as shrugs off damage. A+
Look wise, if you like turtules go for it but hes just not my style D
Since cats coming out soon with all the underwater dungions if you feel you need an aquatic pet he looks good swimming. b+
Damage, poor. Just cause he can keep aggro doesnt mean he does good damage C-

Overall only good for a heavy tank, no DPS potential.

OK ready for another random pet

Ok well, i haven't tested him fully yet, i did get him though.
I just wanted to ask if i could have a second roll though. I'm asking ahead of time cuz i'm up around the time everyone goes to sleep, so i'll have to wait a day for a response and i'm impatient xDD

C: I'll report back on this guy after i've given him more testing, but i'd DEFINITELY love to do seconds (and thirds and possibly fourths ahhaha)

Thanks so much again for doing this for everyone<3

ok so... here's my report.
i'm just not feelin' this guy..
i couldn't think of anything clever to name him, so his name stayed hyena.

* Try tanking an 80 elite with your pet
ok so i cheated a little and ended up running my boyfriend's level 65 char through underbog for his quests.
He did OK at best. didn't hold hate very well (even after MD) no BAD< but not good. he took a lot of damage though, even for the level 62ish elites there :\ lost HP easily and i had to cower him a ton.

* Level it a level or two
I got him to 76 in the heroic i did

* Do a heroic
Did halls of lightning. he died. a lot.

* Do a battleground
i didn't do a BG, but i ganked a few people and got revenge on a few 80s jerking around with the lowbies. he didn't do anything really noticeably. his little slowing move is kinda nice.

* Check the pet out in different lightings
Everywhere i ran was pretty dark. he looked really nice underwater though, a purpley blueish.

* Check out swimming and possibly levitate animations (if any)
despite my semi dislike for hyenas, he actually looked REALLY cute swimming! his doggy paddle was way more convincing than rex, my red worg.

* Get a screenshot of you and your oddly fitting or entirely mismatching pet!
Image
(sorry big)

* Results of any tests (including the above) that you might do. Mention what you think of the pets' model, skin, animations, sound effects, family skill etc. How convenient (or annoying) are their food requirements? Will you keep the pet, or consider another from the same family in the future? Did you learn anything hunter-ey from this pet?
well, i kinda went into this negatively. I really don't like the hyena skins. i'd tried them before and they never stuck with me.
i really like his little yips and growls, they're really charming.
though i can't stand the way he runs.. something about his body looks kind of lopsided :\
the hyena face has always kinda... bothered me. maybe it's those tiny little white beady eyes. xD
they're neat, when i see them from afar, but i just can't use them as my pet.

his food requirements are not really different from my wolf or cat, which is what i generally use anyway, so i guess that's convenient.
Maybe when the stable gets upped to 25 i will grab a hyena (Though of a different color; this white guy doesn't seem to fit me well ;\ )
i didn't really learn anything other than i don't care for hyenas much ahah.

They're cute sometimes.. but i probably will never use them much ; ;

Ready for my next pet though, boss ^^;
