Soriid the Devourer

I'm debating taming the Tan one on my other hunter - but also want the "Sorrid" just in case Hmm....
I could go for one and get neither - if you catch my drift.

It's a Colossus of Ashi, a boss in the AQ opening event in Silithus. I am so going to tame a Soriid just for the sake of an event gone forever! (I still remember getting punted clear across silithus from this guy. -_-;)

Someone else from the old era of piece, and love, and fire resistance! These big guys were fun, to say the least. The whole opening event was awesome. It's a shame that we'll never experience it again. :(

You know, I suppose I shouldn't say that the event is gone forever, since C'thun got res'd by the Ogre there is a possibility there could be another AQ event. I won't hold my breath though... But yes, those were good times when that event was open. Still got a Teebu's sword from it. Either way I am going to get Soriid and name it Ashi xD

The teal "Silithid" scorpids are gone in the beta, but there is a quest in the new forts built on their mounds that summons a mob called "Silithid Swarmer". I think I remember seeing somewhere that these are untameable brown Silithids with the "weevil" model (like this: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=4133).

If someone here has beta access and a spare stable slot on live, could you tame a Silithid Swarmer (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=3252) and transfer it to the beta? Since it's a spawned mob it might just have the same name, not the same mob ID, but it would be interesting to try.

Well, first of all no one knows what will happen to existing Soriid tames when Cata hits.

But even assuming he really does morph into the new model - is it better that

1) hunters who want the new look, can get it, even though it would mean you would have to tame a new (regular) red one, and get him 3 levels of exp OR

2) the new look is removed from all the hunters who specifically wanted it, but you don't have to worry about retaming

Obviously from purely a personal standpoint, #2 is better for you, but what about for the (Petopia) hunter community as a whole? With option 1, everyone ends up with the pet they want including those who are after what very possibly could become the next spirit guide/crocoslime/ltd time unique, but with option 2 only you get what you want...

But that's the thing, it wouldn't be MY Silithid anymore! I KNOW there's other purple Silithids.. But there's no other SORIID. Gypsy just wouldn't be the same pet if she was just some random Silithid... She's special to me in a way.. I had been planning on getting a pet named Gypsy, didn't know what it'd be, but I wanted something with that name. So.. I was flying down to Tanaris, addon went off for the Silithid Ravager.. But by the time I got there, some random Tauren had killed it.. So, I was off to Un'Goro.. On my way, my addon went off again; For Soriid the Devourer! That's how I got her.. She's kinda special to me.. And it wouldn't seem right if she was just some random bug.

No.. She just wouldn't be the same. I've tried retaming pets as other mobs... It's NEVER worked, except for once, where I had a story planned out for how my Warp Stalker went from white to green... But I can't think of any reason to just retame Gypsy, even for this... It just would not be the same little spazzy bug that I love...

If we get the new stable slots BEFORE *hint hint Blizz* Cata hits I'm going to go on the hunt for Soriid and hope it changes over. Strangely enough I have already thought of a name if the morph happens.

That is still not reason enough to want to deny it from us. You CAN take another Silithid, even if it's not the same. We CAN'T take another colossus, because there aren't any others. You gotta' see this from our angle too...

I never said I WANTED to deprive the whole damn community of the thing! I just said I didn't want it to be SORIID. If Blizzard wants to do this, do it to another Silithid. Not Soriid. So all who want it can get it, all who don't can keep their Soriids. In fact, Blizz should change a non-rare spawn, then peple who don't want the new model, but already have the pet won't feel so.. trapped by the whole thing, cause the pet wouldn't be *as* special. (In some cases of course, I know people who love their non-rare spawn pets a lot. In fact, I adore my cute little Felpaw Wolf, I don't care if he's not "special")

And NO, I cannot just tame a different Silithid, cause like I said, it would not be the same. If this does go live, I'm going to probably release little Gypsy.... If I can't get attached to her as a different Silithid, then what's the point in keeping her?

She's not just some random Silithid as you seem to take her as, she's Soriid the Devourer, and she's my pet. AND she's not one of those stupid Silithid beetles.
