So uhm about pet talents!

Unread post by Rocheku »

Does anyone know who is on the beta if they changed hunter pet talents? As they stated that all pets will be doing the same dps kinda made me wonder if they allow you aswell to pick a PvE, PvP or Tanking talent tree with any pet.

Also, has the special abilities have changed yet on the beta of the pets? Like the buffs/debuffs they mentioned?

At this point in time I don't think any changes have been implemented, however the blues stated that they haven't even gone over pets yet so that's probably something they'll get to later. There isn't any information available right now on what those changes might be, if any.

If they are taking away damaging pet skills, and pet skills that would cause a damage imbalance between pet families (as with stated aim that "all pets do the same damage"*) then I hope that a number of current pet skills will become talented - in the same way that Thunderstomp did when Gorillas lost it - be nice if all pets could potentially access a counterspell or demoralising screech or similar.

*:unknown if this means all pets, all non-exotics or all pets of a given type (cunning, ferocity, tenacity)

Hear hear. I've heard so far that every pet will have

1) A group buff OR
2) A debuff OR
3) Both?
4) Exotics will have a "special talent" (don't they already?) OR
5) Exotics will have two family talents vs everyone else having one
6) Pets will be able to choose their talent tree
7) Talent trees remaining but getting trimmed down and stripped of direct dmg powers

Complete hearsay as far as I know. Personally I don't mind the damage equalization, what I do care about are:

1) Movement debuffs - the hyena was one of their specific examples and it looks like it will have a bleed dot or debuff of some kind... which presumably replaces tendon rip. Blah! I want pets with movement reduction. Lots of 'em.

2) Charge/swoop - lack of this is why I never really get that interested in my cunning pets... yeah they have dash but somehow it's just not the same, plus I have no interest in PVP (certainly not enough to rack up the kind of honor points you need to buy the pvp gear)... but if they were to allow pets to choose their own talent tree, that would change things dramatically here.

This is the point where you got me excited. Can you cite a particular source on this, or is it just a rumor?

Nothing concrete yet, just talk from the Blizzcon Q&A, I think... but they have said that pet mechanics still haven't been updated in beta, so who knows.

Here's some of the jabber on the internets:

/dance @ DPS Silithid, since they won't give us Silithid Wasps. That's still my greatest *wish* for pets.

I know they won't do it this way (I don't know how I know this - maybe from channeling the spirit of Murphy?), but if I could be Ghostcrawler for a day I would give every pet family a choice of TWO talent trees to spend points on;

1) Big/bulky/heavy/armored species would all have tenacity as option 1
2) Especially spindly/weak/small/light species would automatically be given ferocity and cunning as choices
3) Otherwise, I'd divvy it up as evenly as possible

This obviously involves a lot of generalization (e.g. both worgs and foxes are in the same species despite being very disparate), but I think it would provide flexibility while still requiring you to make some choices - while I don't want cunning pets to be "trapped" in the role of pvp skills I'd still like to have to make some choices beyond just what looks cool...

And yes I know it would be a pain to code and that Blizz developers probably have more important tasks on their plate.

But still.

Some ideas:

1) Turtle - tenacity/cunning
2) Bear - tenacity/ferocity
3) Wolf - ferocity/tenacity
4) Cat - ferocity/cunning
5) Nether ray - cunning/tenacity
6) Ravager - cunning/ferocity

Etc etc

The only thing that still bothers me is the idea of a bear or turtle with dash. But only a little. 8-)

They already get charge and intervene. ;) Also, spirit bears have dash. CUTE.

*hopes very very hard that this will happen; dps bear means no need for a spirit bear*

Those are just a quick sprint, where they slam into you and then shift to close-in mutilation; no sustained speed and maneuverability is limited to nil - IRL the bear's a perfect example (the RL turtle OTOH is a really baaad example, but hey close enough dangit!); that's why I'm okay with tenacity pets having charge/intervene, but not dash.

And spirit bears are sneaky imposters - you just can't trust something transparent.

Just sayin'.

I expect that Hunters' pets' talent trees are gonna shrink (to fit in with their owners).
Robot Wars is renewed for 6 episodes! I love some Exotic pets! And I hate spiders for.. "pets"!

Um no? The talents are pretty slim as is for useful talents. And if they do, do the same to pet trees as hunter trees, this means we will have Less points to work with since we will have less talents. Meaning they'd have to rework it to pets probably gaining points every 5/6 levels instead of every 4.

Besides look at what 'bloat' they got rid of for all other classes. Do you really want your pet to be bloated down with pvp and pve talents and some solo talents as well? That you have to ALWAYS GET.

Indeed, Ryai. I fully agree.

They have stated that they will be removing the "Three percent more damage" talents from pets tough, so they seem pretty damn intent on messing up the WHOLE talent system...
