NPC SCAN / SILVER DRAGON CAMPING Q's

Unread post by Royi »

May I have some good tips on using this method to acquire rares? From what I have guessed so far, you have NPC SCAN / SILVERDRAGON running, turn up volume on computer, and go do something else for a bit. Then NPC SCAN or SD does some sort of noise, you run to your computer and then find your rare.

Couple Q's:

Do you just let your toon hover in the air? Or do you have to hit /afk or something to make sure that your char doesnt log out?

For a mob with multiple spawn points, do you think its better to stay in 1 single spot or to continously move from spawn point to spawn point.

Thanks!

If you use NPCScan just make sure your cache is cleared. If it isn't, even if the mob shows up right in front of you, you won't get a notification.

I usually just fly above the spawn point and read a book (or start a religion, lol). You might have to return every once and a while to tap a key or something so you don't autolog out, but beyond that, you can pretty much go do something else until the alarm goes off.

If it has more spawn points, I'd consider recruiting camping friends first. Then you can all stay in one place and maximize the chance of finding the mob. Barring that, I'd stay at the place reported the most for the mob spawns, but do a rotation every once and a while just to see if it's elsewhere. NPCscan has a pretty wide range at least, so the chances of you missing it are slim, as long as you're near the spawn area.

Happy Hunting! :D

For the AFK-kick, I made an addon to prevent it, but I was later informed that it broke the rules! D'oh!
But, like Velkyn said, get someone to guard the other spawns, while you read a book or watch a movie or something and you'll be fine.

Me, personally I hit all spawn points, stick around at one for a little bit, then hit the others after a few.

Regarding logging out, I twitch a little to prevent that.

As said before, I personally hit all points, stick around at one a few then hit them all again; if you have guildies or friends who want to camp out with ya' they can hang at each spawn point.

Cons: Npc_Scan does require you clear your cache when you see a rare even another hunters' pet that's a rare but renamed i.e. Skoll or Loque'Nahak.

Pros: Silver_Dragon does not require that you clear your cache & another hunters' pet that's a rare but renamed i.e. Skoll or Loque'Nahak will not trigger the addon; only the actual rare in it's wild environment; so you could see the same rare multiple times in the wild & the addon will trigger.

That's what I like about SilverDragon more: it kinda gives the fun of trying to find as many rares as you can wherever you go since it gives a list of an area you're visiting. Too bad there isn't an achievement for finding all the rares and get a nice title for it.

eveeryone has good points. I use them both i like npc scan cause its shows there paths they take, where they spawn but sucks cause uu have to clear the cache. Silver dragon is nice becuase u can reset the cache for it in game. But i know there have been times where i see a mob like in dal or UC and when i got to the spawn zone of it, silverdragon goes off saying its around, and they can have a diff name then their given. they are both nice to have. When i camp for rares if they have more then one spot. if i dont have help i stay at one, then every so often make my rounds to the rest. if they have only one i just stay there, landed or in the air depends on what i was doing or am going to do and just wait. i stay a bit close to the ground if im flying so if it pops i dont have far till the ground.

I use both and they're just perfect!
I am a ground camper, especially in high traffic areas like Schol. I bet that you will get to your rare faster from the ground then someone flying if there was a race.
Try to have helpers whenever possible if not fly the other spawn points when things are the quietest is what I do.
All great advice though. :D

thanks for all the advice so far! i appreciate it very much :)

My npcscan went off for some random ogre in nagrand today. I was very excited even though it was just a regular rare guy. I like the mod because it flashes and its a "omg" type feeling.

I can only wait till i'm big enough to be in S. Basin

I've been 1/2 scarred to death of my npc scan gong more than once hehe. It's so loud i turned off my silver-dragon noise. I've figure the best way is to have these two and ask around for the most common spawn point or just pick one to start with. come back occasionally to fly around and always stick close to your computer :)

Yeah NPCscan has given me a heart attack more than once. Especially when I'm not even looking for a rare, but it goes off when I'm on a flightpath or something.

DEFINITELY gets your attention, though!
