Pet bug.

Unread post by x_Fiona_x »

Hello i'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.. but i couldn't decide if it should go in the hunter section or here..

Anyway, i plan on leveling a goblin in Cataclysm but there was always one thing that bothered me when it came to leveling, the bug with the pet trying to get behind the monster and then they end up dancing for a while and move so far away that you have to go chasing after them.

Is there any news on this being fixed for the next game? :)

Thank you.

Sadly I don't think it's been fixed yet. Blizzard haven't done their round on pets yet tough, so there is a chance. A fix I found for this involves using Distractive, and then Feigning. Maybe that will help temporarily. Otherwise you can just recall the pet and then send it in again.

Yeah, I usually recall/resend. I have a macro of hunter's mark and /petattack bound to 1 and a macro to stop attack and /petfollow bound to ctrl-1, so it's easy for me to recall and resend.

The bug isn't entirely a bug... It's also got to do with communication between the server and your computer, and lag. Others with more computer knowledge can explain it better, I'm sure, but basically when the communication gets overwhelmed (i.e. either your computer or the server sends a lot of information at once - packets, I think it's referred to, it's often linked to addons and it's one reason they're throttling some communication-intensive addons) the channel of communication gets bogged down and then you'll see that kind of thing. At least that's how it was explained to me.

I hope they fix it soon. It's really annoying to watch my pet run off and cause all sorts of mischief.

Actually Sara, it is a bug, but as you said, slow processing of packets means that your computers command to stop the pet may be processed after the mob has already runafter your still moving pet, which means that they will both run away for a bit.

Ah alright. My understanding was that the slow processing of packets (proper terminology, yay!) was causing them to run off because the server and computer weren't communicating efficiently about the point where the mob and the pet "meet," as it were. Thanks for explaining it. :)

That's exactly it, Sara. They respond slowly, and the pet and mob peeps running.
