Soriid + Haarka - Potentially Changing Silithids

Unread post by Vephriel »

In the interest of creating a fresh start from the somewhat muddled existing threads on the two Silithids, the previous topics have been locked and this can serve as the new one. Feel free to continue discussion and also post screenshots/information of any updates to this interesting glitch that currently occurs. Right now there is no guarantee that that either of the Silithids will keep their new Cataclysm beta models in the future.

To summarize:

If a character is copied to the Cataclysm Beta realms at the moment with Soriid and/or Haarka, the pets will gain a new model. So far these are the only two to behave this way.

I must say, I'm really not keen on the look of 'new' Soriid. I'd love to have the blue bug though. I really hope they'll be tameable in that form in Cata.

Also, Mania's link to Buru the Gorger brought this screenshot to my attention. I'd find it endlessly amusing to play around with the idea that my pet has a GIANT BRAIN under all that brawn.

Yeah, with that giant brain they should have a new talent 'Mind control' or 'Telepathy'. HAHAHA, our pets get a pet! How fun would that be in PvP. :)

Oh god, I hate that model. I was just looking at it in the model viewer and it actually makes me feel a bit ill. Not your fault - I was just looking at it anyway - but *shudder*.

I'm quite fond of the purple and red model myself, it's the one I'm electing to try for in the slim chance these stay past Cata release.

I'd never seen that brain exposure before. :o Pretty neat!

I'm actually not too keen on the regular old silithid models. I really liked the way the giant round models moved when I was watching Zeilla's video of it. And you know, you won't actually *see* the giant brain when you have one as a pet. At least I hope their death doesn't leave them lying on the ground like that... I'd abandon it after its first death. >_< Or spam Mend Pet between every shot.

I just went to check in the model viewer and it seems the Brain-exposing one is its own separate model. As far as I can tell, scrolling through the regular's animations, there is no view of the brain at all.

Oh, now I'm curious to what happens when they die! I think 'Squish' will have to take one for the team and lets see what happens! Will edit with a SS in a sec! :)

No icky brains when he dies, I'm happy to report. :D

And he's alive and well again :)

Hehe, I had been wondering why people kept referring to that model as the 'brain bug'. I'm sure I've killed Buru before, but it was so long ago I had no memory of the encounter. x)

It's strange because the more I see the Soriid one the more I dislike it.

Regardless both bugs are permanent keepers with me in the old skin. :D

I find it fascinating that the marks on Soriid's model are different than the traditional silithid ones, which Haarka has.

Hmm. :)

I think I would be kind of cool if they switched to the "exposed brain" model halfway trough their health. It would actually be pretty awesome, a visual indicator of their health.

I also exist on DeviantArt.

I have all my fingers crossed that all the silithid models will end up tameable - the ant-things, the scarabs, the brain bugs and the wasps - and that these guys just showed up first because that's the way the content designers happened to get to the job.

That's probably not terribly likely, but I still have my fingers crossed.

Mind you, these brain bugs would probably need to scale down a bit when tamed ...

I couldn't agree more, Mania! I'd love for them all to be tameable.

Thanks for testing it, Zeilla. <3 Poor, dead Squish... :'( I really, really, really want him now.

Also agree. :) I can't imagine it would be difficult to just flag a few of the alternative Silithid types and have them all function in the same way. Just gives some variety to the very tiny pet species. ^^
