I found another weird little problem with the call pet functionality...just wanted to give you guys a heads-up to be careful with your new tames. I was looking for a Tenacity pet, because my poor little Ferocity friends just can't hold aggro off me, due to their current lack of scaling. So I went to STV and snagged a Monkey. Before I tamed the monkey, I dismissed my cat, Daishar. Once tamed, the monkey's name did not display as "Monkey," it displayed as "Unknown." While spamming Mend Pet to bring its happiness up because I didn't realize monkeys had such picky diets, I named my new pet "Chistery." I then went to Orgrimmar to meet my guild master and help get our beta guild set up. When I dismounted in Razor Hill, out popped the new monkey...named "Monkey." I double-checked my call pet flyout and discovered to my horror that the game had assigned the name "Chistery" to my beloved kitty - who had already been named and therefore should not have been eligible for a rename. Quickly, I stuck everything else in the stable and swapped the monkey to one of the other 4 slots, with my cat in the active slot. I found a boar, dismounted, dismissed the cat, tamed the pig, and made sure to name it Daishar while its identity was still Unknown. I then mounted back up and returned to the stable. To my relief, the name "Daishar" had been given back to the last active animal I had before the tame, my cat, Daishar.
So until that little bug gets fixed, you might want to immediately dismiss a new pet once you tame it, then resummon it, so that whatever name you give it actually sticks to it and not one of your other long-term friends. What a fun "welcome to the beta" experience for me, huh?
