Easy reason. The models don't scale up properly to be pet-sized. (or you would have a tiny pet that did tiny damage, unless you could call like 50 of them).
As far as stags and the rest go, if they do add them, what they do will be pretty generic. I really miss the days of rhino-bowling, and gorillas being the tank pet because of thunderstonp.
If you called to order takeout, would you complain about them screwing up your food before they'd even made it?
If they'd been known to screw up the order more than get it right or had been (to me) slipping lately? Yeah, I would. If I was right more often than wrong, then it's time to find a new takeout place.
Then you're complaining about something they did, not something they haven't done or even started yet. Different thing.
And yeah, if you're that unhapppy with a service it's probably time to switch.
If we didn't speak up when Blizz changed something in a way we didn't like (for more than a "Change bad!!11" reason) then we'd have those lovely new forums with our real names plastered all over them. They don't know we don't like a new feature or change if we don't tell them.
Hunters are disappointed in only getting three new pet types? Well maybe they'll add more or maybe they won't, but they KNOW we'd like more and we've name dropped a few pets we'd like and if it's doable maybe they'll surprise us with tameable Hydra/Basilisk/Thunderlizards. We don't know unless we let them know our thoughts on what they've done so far.
I'm all for speaking up and constructive criticism. But they haven't actually done anything to speak up about yet. Like you said, they're well aware of popular wishes and requests. So there's really no reason to get bent out of shape (or celebrate, for that matter) until they've at least done something concrete with pets. With all the confused beasts atm (stags tagged as bears and whatnot), what is or will be tamable or not is anyone's guess.
If they're not on pets by mid/late September, I'd say there's cause for concern, though.
(if Nov 4th is the release date)
But then again, they have made pretty big changes on live before, so we can always just keep poking them till they do it again.
On a sidenote: If they had added our real names to the forums, it would at least have made quite a few act more civil and honest
Each of those classes have three specs. Three of those classes are getting major re hauls in how they work(Warlocks, hunters, Death knights), Four of those classes are hybrid classes whose separate specs have completely different functions and mechanics from each other. Not to mention the work that goes into balancing out the tanking classes/specs. Those take a lot of time too, because if one of the tanks is way more favored than a lot of people that play the others are left out of raiding.
That is a hell of a load of work. I understand that you want new pets, but Blizzard has a lot of work to do, and they've said themselves that they have a relatively small design team for an MMO. Hunter pets not only just pertain to hunters, but they are a sub-catagory to hunters, and we already have like two hundred fifty of them. Sorry, but as much as I love pets, I'd rather have my class working than have fifty new pet models(though it'd be nice /sigh).
So please; settle down and quit criticizing blizz. I know you want new pets, but we already have a lot of pets. We're getting more stable slots, we're getting a handful of new pets, we're getting new races that can be hunters, we're getting a lot of stuff for being one class out of ten! I mean, wheres the druids new aquatic, travel, boomkin, and tree forms? Don't you think they feel bad? Here we are getting new pets and stable slots and they don't even get new skins for their forms yet. They have to look at the same form every day, and can't just swap it out with one of two hundred fifty options like we can with our pets.
So please, show some respect for your fellow classes in wow, and understand that it's not all about hunters. We'll get some love in due time. Keep in mind also that WoW is one of the only mmos where you can tame any pet you want and name them. In Everquest, beast masters that are the cat people get an orange tiger. Even though they can change their fur color, their pet is still always an orange tiger. The other races get a bear, a lizard thing, and a wolf. They never get any other pets. In DAOC some classes(beastmasters ect.) can tame pets and some(enchanters) can mezmorize temporary pets, but you can't name them. The rest of the pet classes(Bone dancers, clerics, necromancers ect.) have set pets. In Warhammer, I believe you get the lion thing and that's it. I think you can in ultima online too...but eew....non 3D.
So we have a lot of diversity that other games don't have, and I'm sure blizzard sometimes regrets that decision on occasion because people complain so much. Do you want them to just give us set pets? I'm sure they've thought about it because of how big of a pain it is to keep hunters happy.
So again. Calm down. If we don't get new pets this go around, we will in future expansions. Blizz only has two months to do a crap load of work if they want to ship on time, and I'm sure they're under a lot of pressure. So be kind to our blizz, for they provide more variety than most, and do actually listen to us when they can.
Aye 5,000 person thread + on what we want to tame in the upcoming expansion...........Who th' heck said they wanted Mastiffs? I need ta' get my nurf bat and give ya' a good noggin thumper. But If I remember rightly a gajillion people wanted to tame a form of dragonkin............So where are they? -Unknowne-Elune.

Easy reason. The models don't scale up properly to be pet-sized.
Who said I wanted them to scale up or even have many of them?
I want one normal size squirrel that would strike fear in anything stupid enough to cross in its path.
I want it to tank too.

I need more hunters, IMO.

LOL Monty Python and the Holy Grail any one?! ^_^ "Peter Cottontail, ATTACK!" hehe no real need to have a huge pet running next to us all the time, some should be smaller... that can hold or stun for like 15 seconds! *evil laughter*

Slickrock wrote:So, we are well into Cata beta here, and I gotta say, I'm disappointed. Not only have we not seen the pet talent pass (which if it doesn't come soon, does not bode well for that supposed Nov 14 release date), but we really have not seen much new for hunters, other than what they are taking away.
So, we have 2 new pets. Foxes and Mastiffs. Everything else is just a reskin of an existing model. Is that all Blizz? really? we got a hell of a lot more in BC, and at least in BC we also got major new models for existing families.
GC to the other developers - - "Just give them those foxes and mastiffs, and throw the 25 stable slots at them, they'll never notice that we didn't give them anything else. And get rid of volley, I'm tired of hunters out-dpsing my mage".
On the one hand I can't really recall any of the volumes and volumes of suggestions in the hunter feedback thread being implemented... not even sure why they bothered asking in fact.
That being said, I'm still interested to see how we end up - personally I'm less interested in new pet families (doesn't look like any of the ones I wanted are being implemented and the ones they did add don't interest me for the most part) than the overall picture.
I want to try it out for myself before I form any major opinions on the matter... until then I'm going to hold out that there will be enough "cool stuff" to pique my interest and that the nerfs will be offset... at least to my satisfaction.
I want one normal size squirrel that would strike fear in anything stupid enough to cross in its path.
This. Squirrels IRL are really angry little things. Tiny, angry and fuzzy.
I did actually post a suggestion for new BM talent Incite Critter (critter + BW = joy), but you know I don't think they took me very seriously. \o/
And speaking of RL squirrels... the red squirrels are by far the toughest - last winter we had this one tiny fellow who kept all the much larger gray squirrels away - they knew to stay back until Scrappy had had his pick of the fallen seeds.
Kind of like a miniscule, fuzzy red Lar'korwi.
One time he almost worked up the nerve to have a go at me. Luckily for me he decided to be merciful and instead scuttled under my deck and chittered at me until I went away.
in all honesty, ill WILL be happy as all as blizz takes away FH from wolves/dogs and puts in the ferocity tree then allow us hunters to pick our pets tree. if they did that then i would deal with even NO new pet families/skins for we would then have a bit more option in that case than we do now

I think the Blue Blighthound would be fabulous.
Actually, her most likely stems from her breeding rabbits and giving them to fellow villagers before she became Anyanka the vengance demon. They remind her of her "first" life and how happy she was (until the whole cheating husband thing, that is) or something...
Going through the whole series with a m8 atm
Also, choosing which tree any pet you tame will belong to would be nice, but maybe not so appropriate all the time... :/
I'm not complaining about any of the changes that are going to be made in Cata for one very good reason: I already have the pet of my dreams. Ever since I was a little kid, I always wanted a pet T-rex (I even wrote a few stories about having one), and Blizzard made that childhood dream a virtual reality. No matter what other pets come out, nothing can compare to my devilsaur making that dream come true for me!
Like many posters have already said, it's still beta, Blizz still has a lot of work left to do, so let's just sit back, not fret, and let them get on with it. We already have 20 additional pets to look forward to and even in the existing families, that's a lot of choice. So what if we don't get a huge amount of entirely new creatures to tame? I'm confident that what Hunters will get in the expansion will be pretty good (providing they give us a new AoE to replace Volley).
