You may not realize it at all, but we are saying the same thing. I want bm to be balanced around damage and ability, NOT having a shiny pet and a few extra points in a pet tree. I would honestly like to play my bm spec all the time. I like it, but it just isn't as good as the other two when it comes down to it. That is what I am getting at. If the other trees got exotic pets, then blizz would have to compensate bms with more damage and better abilities.Yes, I am determined to hang onto my Tame Exotic Pets ability, it is not some game breaking mechanic, which allows me to do tons of damage while making me completely immune to retaliation. (unless the opponent just happens to be a priest)
It is a mostly cosmetic ability, true, but I will be damned if I just let it go without something substantial to take its place.
GC has said numerous times the reason paladins aren't as competitive in damage (either in pvp or pve) is because we are balanced around defensive utility (main example is the bubble). Now if they removed the bubble paladins would be balanced around offensive utility, meaning an increase in damage and new abilities. This is partially shown in the changes to paladins. Bubble is getting nerfed, but we get an interrupt and some cool new abilities.
Also please don't bring retardins into this conversation. Messed up spec that can wtfpwn people in low end gear, but can't do crap against high end gear. Sure that is mostly because of how crazy resilience is now, and sure it's getting partially fixed in cata.
Let me sum up my point this way. If blizz said to bm hunters "there are no exotic pets anymore, anyone can tame anything. In exchange your new 51 point talent is called Aspec of the Beast. While in this aspect successful attacks regenerate x amount of focus per hit, and you and your pet dd 25% more damage". Would you be o.k. with it?
