A WoW Valentine's Day

Here's a WoW themed valentine's day design I came up with, but it didn't come out exactly as I hoped. Still its fairly cute...now I have the urge to draw something exploding or manly.

Btw, Your awfully nifty with that illustrator.
Do you just import the picture of the pet and then trace over the top of the main shapes and shadows?
I'm such a sucker for clean, perfect pictures, mainly because I cant do them very well myself

Thanks Spiritbinder. I rarely use autotrace. It creates so many useless anchor points that it bloats the file size of things. Sometimes its a necessary evil, but I prefer the pen tool. Usually I'll sketch what I want or bring in a photograph or screenshot. For this kind of style since I like to have the outer outline cartoonishly thick I'll pen tool around the entire shape for that line. Then I'll just make every color inside the object as a shape being careful which object needs to be on top of which. Then I'll make their stroke lines really small around .25 or so. I'm sure there are far easier ways of achieving these goals, but since I usually do a lot of logo work I can pentool out a complex shape in twenty minutes to an hour depending on what it is. To me it helps me get more control, but the great thing about illustrator and adobe is there always is a ton of ways to do the same thing you just have to find what works best for you. Hope that helps.
