Well, it happened... "Get out your wolf"

Unread post by Kittykat »

I guess VOA is srs bzns.

This hunter whispered me to get out my wolf. I had Gondria out, because, well... it's VOA! It's not freaking ICC25 heroic!

I said "I will if it's needed, but it's just VOA."

Then after the fight the same hunter goes "YES, top hunter DPS on the meter!"

I looked at my meter, and not only was he under me on DPS, but when I checked to see if he hit the frozen orbs at all, guess which hunter did top DPS on frozen orbs (the mechanic on that fight which MATTERS when it comes to gauging effectiveness of a ranged DPS player)?

Oh yeah, that would be me.

Mister "I think I should get to tell other hunters what to do" barely hit any frozen orbs at all.

I am all for getting helpful tips to improve *IF* I need to improve something. But don't tell me what to do when I do my job better than you.

Ouch. I never had this happen to me, half the time people don't even realize what pet im using. I've randomly pulled out Aotona, or even my warpstalker while in ICC. Just for fun, not on the srs bzns stuff. Never had my GM say a word, even if my dps was lower then normal. Guess you just got unlucky with some silly hunter thinking he knew better.

I didn't feel it was necessary. Pearls before swine and all that.

I did ask a bit wryly in raid chat when he posted his "Top DPS" spew:

How much of that was on the frozen orbs?

He never answered.

I only checked my damage meter because I wanted to reassure myself that I was, in fact, pulling my weight in the group. I don't go out looking to be carried. Yes, BM is slightly lower DPS, but my gear and DPS are adequate for VOA, even without the oh-so-"necessary" wolf pet.

Heh, I experienced a pretty similar situation in VoA once. It was just a pug group I joined. We wiped the first attempt, but there was a MM hunter who was gloating about how he was contributing the most since his DPS topped the charts or something. I hardly even bother looking at recount, but I remember the raid leader shutting him down pretty quickly when he posted the frost orb damage. I had been doing something like 91% of the damage to them, and RL called out pretty much every ranged dps and told them off and to follow my example more.

Bleh, people sometimes....more people these days are willing to lose as long as they were rocking the damage meters. They couldn't care less about the team effort or anything.

It just reminded me of this comic. I'm a huuuuge believer in utility. I'd rather take a lower dps that knows how to dps bone spikes and move out of ooze or flame or whatever on the ground than the "über dps" that's über for the 1 minute of the fight he's alive...

ROFLMAO! Thanks for sharing that Sarayana. I haven't seen that before.

Yep, agreed. Better to know the fight and do it right than top dps everytime... but there comes a satisfaction when you can shut the random jerk spouting trash about BMs when this BM just kicked your sorry cookie cutter hunter SV/MM arse and did it the right way

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can't say I don't take a lot of satisfaction in topping meters (I'm competitive as hell) but meters don't mean shit if it's a wipe. It's easy to do crazy dps during those first seconds, but if it means you'll insta-rip the boss off the tank and die after 20 seconds, it's only your dps that's high and you really contributed nothing. (I love lecturing people about that when I see meters flying.)

This happened today to me. I went into a VOA 25 man and there were 3 hunters. I'm usually top dps but I noticed that the frozen orbs were taking forever to go down. Not all the range dps was hitting them. The PVP legs drop and the top dps hunter, me, and the lowest dps hunter rolled on it. The lowest dps hunter won it. I offered him gold for it. <<< You should try it. Some hunters don't care. He had the gloves so I told him he should keep it.

I exit the raid and notice that the top dps hunter is in my guild. He is talking in guild chat about what happened. Someone told him that the hunter won it fair. He started to swear in guild chat. The guy who invited him to guild told him to cool it. Then he quit guild. He must of joined like last night cause I log on almost everyday.

I swear that hunter did not hit any frozen orbs. Next time I'll check logs. Why nerd rage on PVP gear? Something was wrong with that guy.

Guntitan, I've learned that people will nerd rage over anything if it's purple or rare. :( That's why I stopped raiding in the first place, left my raiding guild, and am never, ever leaving my small, cozy, casual guild of friends. <3

*giggles quietly* Following this "angst" tangent, I love how vault is still serious business with some people. This loot's been in the game for WELL over half a year. People overgear the encounters easily (and yet some still wipe due to poor execution, lol).

There was a LOT of angst about the PvP gear at the beginning of the season, but now, if you don't have the gloves/legs and you're willing to emo over a ninjaed drop, then you're probably scrubbing it up in arena, since you're worried about being unable to obtain said gear at all....in which case, you probably don't need the gear anyway. The PvE gear is all obtainable from frost badges, with the exception of the sanctified pieces from the 25m vaults, since those require tokens. Even so, ICC's been out for AGES; this gear just isn't worth angsting over. It's all going to be obsolete very soon anyway. Not that anyone should be angsting over pixels in the first place, but I mean really, at this stage of the game, it's even more silly. Relentless gear and t10 pieces are very easily acquired with a little effort.

TL;DR: Ninjaing shouldn't be a big deal over outdated loot, though that in NO MANNER, SHAPE, OR FORM justifies doing it. Just my opinion. :D

Getting back to the OP, it make me giggle when people get outdpsed by a BM hunter AND do less damage to the orbs. Feel free to PM me the guy's name; I'd love to armory him and pick apart his gear.

If anyone puts that much stock on which pet your using you can already tell they don't know how to play thier class correctly, and they picked up their spec, rotation, and pet from online. The put basically no thought into any of this on thier own, so it's a good chance they really don't know what they are doing :P
I've heard many MANY hunters talk about how what family of pet you have doesn't even matter in MM and SV, only in BM, and even then the difference in dps is very small.

Anyways as far as the out DPSing someone in BM, it is quite fun to do *evil grin* I'm usually running around with a bright green devilsaur so people notice I'm BM quite often. Luckily I don't get flack from it often, but whenever I do it's always another hunter that thinks they are 'helping' by telling me I'm doing it wrong xP

In most VoA groups I'm in we normally do the fire boss also. I love this because ranged don't have to switch targets and you can nuke your little hearts out, just so long as you get out of fire :)
After that fight is usually when I open up my recount at that point and go: ooh look, I out dps'ed you hmmm, how'd that happen? *innocent look*

I could understand and agree with the raid IF it was progression, like Heroic ICC. Since it was only a pug VOA, you should be able to bring whatever pet you choose to.

Yeah, I agree. In progression raiding that extra couple of hundred dps really does make a difference. In a heroic? Pssh! Please!

Same. It's the fastest and most efficient way, and honestly even bringing a level 75 tenacity pet I still put my weight, sometimes even doing the most damage, so it really doesn't matter when everyone overgears them now. xD

Ditto too.

The other day, was my very first time for gettin chewed out for being BM (I had The Beast with me) during a random heroic by a priest. Others in the group were askin what she was upset about, and of course she says "Cause it does the lowest damage". Didn't matter that I was second dps on chart, with a Boomkin barely beating me (his gs was about 100 above mine). Sheesh. It's just a heroic peeps, dps spec doesn't matter as much as long as yer pullin yer weight.
