Heroic MgT - The White Chocobo :P

Unread post by Renle »

I was wondering if any of the other ace hunters on these forums could lend a little help in the way of advice. I'd like to start grinding for this mount, however, though I can solo all the other bosses in this instance (even Kael) with no problems, Priestess Delrissa seems almost impossible to kill by myself.

I've tried on several occasions to down her and her gang, but this encounter seems to be my Achilles Heel :P
So I was wondering if there are any hunters out there who solo H MgT on a regular basis and can share any hints/tricks/techniques to downing this pain in the neck? lol

I remeber when I was grinding MGT for my phoniex and I thought why not just do it on Heroic and have a chance to get the hawkstrider at the same time? How wrong I was.... -_- Like you mentioned all the bosses are doable, but the priestess and her gang were horrid >.<

At the time my gear was Nax quality, so if you have access to T10 I belive that may help alot more. I would advice that you equip a pvp trinket, as it can get you out of the crazy ammount of cc that they can throw at you as well if thats an issue. The other main thing is acutally the class combos that she can bring can be make or break. Naturally the rogue and warrior hurt, even at 80, where as the caster adds are much easier to deal with. You can Even LOS them to make them a bit easier. That in mind, you can see which Adds are there before killing the first boss (if I remember correctly on the bridge, left hand side). If you get a combo you know you can't beat you can run out and keep resetting the whole thing, until you get a more "friendly" makeup.

I have finally gotten my 2nd piece of T5 as of late, which I think would help a riduclulous ammount if I gave it another crack.

Here's a little Hunter walkthrough I found that may help : )

Nandei wrote:First boss is quite easy, I have so far not had any trouble with him (apart from one time where I managed to pull him while clearing the trash in the room). My tactic on the second boss is a bit different from the one shown in Cex's video: of the first two sets of sparks, I kill one myself and have my pet kill the other. After this I pop my cooldowns (BW+RF) and just nuke the boss down ignoring the rest of the sparks. So far, the boss has died before the sparks have killed me or my pet. I've been using also what arcane resistance gear I have, the cloak with enchant and the trinket from Karazhan quest, which does help.

At the third boss I have actually had the MS warrior every time. The other adds have never been melee though: engineer, mage, warlock and hunter in some combination. I put my freezing trap as close to the mobs as I dare, wait for the cooldown and then use MD and send my pet at Delrissa. The MS warrior has trapped himself each time at the start when he charges, leaving me free to kill the priestess. After Delrissa dies, I try to keep the warrior trapped and kill the casters first. So far this has worked, since the naga warrior has been the only one to try to come in melee range of me and trapping him has been quite easy. I haven't even needed to kite the mobs further than the previous room.

At Kael'thas I've gotten one phoenix each time, but have had no trouble meeting the time limit before he starts to cast pyro. I put a frost trap between the stairs and KT, to get a bit more time to kill the phoenix before it reaches me. I have not had my pet die to the fireballs, but that really says nothing about how dangerous they are, I might have just been lucky.

At my first clear the trash actually caused me more trouble than the bosses. I had forgotten the abilities of each and what I should kill first (the magisters do hurt a lot if they get to stack their buff). Getting better at it each time though, and having lots of fun clearing the place on my own.

Thanks Spiritbinder. I am in fact geared fully in t10, however I think this has been more of a mental hindrance then anything lol.
Because with all the other bosses all I have to do is nuke them down, I think the fact that I actually have to stratigize and work around the Delrissa fight is what's really tripping me up. Sometimes I feel like shouting "Hey, look I'm in full t10, you should just die instantly and let me through like the others did!" lol

Anyways, the trinket is a very good idea. I do have a PvP trinket collecting dust in my bank as well as ilvl 277 PvP gloves and legs (from VoA) that are gemed and enchanted. Maybe those will help some as well, at least as far as survivability.

I'll need to practice more at the fight prolly, see what kind of CC I can work up and what not.
More suggestions welcome, and I'll post any strategies I work out on my own as well ;P

If the rogue is up, burn him asap. Same for the shirtless Belf that is dual wielding those fist weapons. Try and keep the warrior trapped until you focus on him. The casters are not too bad, save those for last. As for the lady herself, burn her after the ones i mentioned.

Use a pvp trink if you have one, it helps. Feign Death and Deterrence are your friends in this fight, fo sho bro.

It's a good idea to scout Delrissa's group before starting the instance (you can look down from the bridge at the entrance). The fight can be cakewalk or a total nightmare depending on the group, it's especially difficult if there are 2 or more melee fighters, and pretty easy when there are only casters. If there are 2 or more melees, you can reset the instance until you get a more favourable group.

For the fight itself, focus on killing either the healers or the most dangerous melee fighter first. Don't bother with freezing traps, they trinket out of them instantly or are dispelled. Frost Trap on the other hand works wonders in keeping the melees off you, as does Snake Trap (which also distracts the enemy NPCs as they sometimes choose to kill the snakes instead of you). If you are BM for the rest of the instance, it's a good idea to switch to MM for this fight (Dual Spec ftw), because you have far superior burst damage as well as Silencing Shot with that spec and can burst Delrissa down almost instantly.

So I went after the group last night to try some new techniques and see what I can do. I brought my worm to the fight, and buffed myself with the following: Poached Northern Sculpin, , Drums of Forgotten Kings, Drums of the Wild, Elixir of Mighty Fortitude, and Wrath Elixir. I buffed my pet with Spiced Mammoth Treats, and Scroll of Stamina VIII.

I had my trinket on (but didn't even need it oddly enough) and had equipped my Wrathful Gladiator's legs and gloves (the ilvl 270 variety)
I'd also brought along my Drums of Panic, but didn't have a chance to try them out to see if they worked xP

I got the Engineer, the shaman, the lock and the hunter, so I think what happened is I just got a really lucky group.
I managed to nuke down each boss one at a time, and didn't even get a chance to CC anyone.

So like Nakari said the group make-up can really effect the success of soloing them. I know from past experience that the Rogue is the biggest pain of any group, and I hear the monk is no fun either.
I'll be trying again today, and make sure to scout out what the group is before I tackle the instance, and see if I can't reset it to a more manageable party ahead of time. :)
