SORRY =/
my intentions were good in posting it in Hunter Forums. which kind of upset me when she / he mentioned it like if i did it for blizz to notice it.. of course blizz is going to notice it whether the info stayed inside petopia or not, its always a matter of time. the fact that i posted in their forum doesnt mean that their going to rage patch it on us. eventually it may or may not be patched but this wont happen till blizz has a REAL reason to even let a patch go through to start with.
No worries Ragin, it's easy to misinterpret things through text. Again, no one has issues with you sharing the info on the official forums. :) We just hoped you weren't doing it to instigate Blizzard in retiring the wolves. ^^

I'm all for sharing information about cool pets, but I guess my biggest problem with you posting on the Hunter forums, Ragingbum, is that it's drawing attention to something Blizz may have let slide if there were only a handful of hunters out there that had it. The last time hunters drew alot of attention to an unique/ unnusual pet, Blizz was pretty quick to fix it and it did not go well for all those that ran out and tamed it. The Garwal-worgen was an invisible buff that blizzard fixed first by "rage patching" it during maintainace into untamable/ not recognized as a pet and finally by simply changing the npc id, but since this one has a visible buff (Oil Coat), they'll probably just wipe all pet buffs active on pets and change the way the quest works. I understand you want a cool grandfathered pet, but honestly this case would be grandfathered and you'd be left with a plain old grey/black wolf (speculation of course)....Eh, maybe I'm just being incredibly cynical, but still felt like throwing it out there. : /

Especially because there is an equally possible chance that Bliz would not just remove the ability for new hunters to tame the wolf, but could just as easily remove the oil buffs from current hunter wolves.

One thing to keep in mind is that we don't always know what almighty Blizzard is thinking. Just because they made some pets non-tameable without removing the ones that were already tamed (Gezz, croc slimes, spirit wolves etc.) doesn't mean they will always do this. ;P

No. No changing the subject. ;)
I'm in full agreement with everyone else and along with the brain bug it's not that this is meant to be kept secret, hidden, untold or anything the like. Not even kept on the down low. Just not spreading the word out there, especially on Blizzard's own site which is monitored well. If I was asked how I got it I would be honest however but strangely I've received zero questions on him and very few compliments.

If this was a simple luck of the draw taming that rarely happened then I'm sure Blizz would turn a blind eye and leave it. The issue (as I see it, and this is only MY opinion and speaking for myself) is they're being tamed regularly and in numbers now on multiple servers where we're cheating the system to get them. Blizzard does not take to kindly to that. I'm fairly certain the brain bug was nerfed because of this. The reason I very firmly believe that is why it was nerfed VERY VERY quickly.

I have to say I will be heartbroken if one of my favorite pets becomes 'normal'. It's not fair to have one person ruin something for everyone else. No offense meant but you can take that any way you want to. :)

alright, ive deleted all my post in said thread and it will soon be burried under all the others if not erased as i have opened a ticket after deleting all my post and reporting all other peoples posts to be erased. i doubt blizz wont do anything to this particular pet and tbh whether or not a blue has seen this i frankly dont care anymore, you people keep saying you dont want it to be a secret yet you keep implying it over and over. im not going to deny i may have f_d it for the rest of you. i tried to do something nice for hunter community but it just blew right up in my face.... thanks.. really..

It's hard to believe you shared the news with the best of intentions when you said yourself:
To be honest I hope they do nerf this =3
That's all that was said. Secret-keeping has nothing to do with it. Intent is something else entirely.

I like keeping pets available, I also like keeping pets with 'unique' ways of obtaining them.

IE ~ I would rather have the rare mob Strider Clutchmother around, then a whole zone full of look alikes.

IE ~ I would rather have the oil wolf stick around with its oil coat with needing that quest ` rather than having any of the wolves keep their coat regularly.

IMO ~ I wish they brought back the Spirit Wolf, and left the parameters just the same (within 7 seconds I think?) ~ I love going for the odds and ends of the game, and I do feel bad that since I'm new to the hunter game as of a few months ago, I missed out on going through that experience. Also I would have loved to work on getting that one Purple Warp Stalker and the Ghost Hydra.

~Ghost Hydra, Gezzerak, and Spirit Wolf are all 3 pets that I feel I missed out on. They would all be in my stables if I could. Grats to those who have them, but I wish that Blizzard would allow those neat little tricks to still work for us newer hunters

I haven't read all 14 pages but...Has anyone tried to get a shaman to help with the cast time. I remember we needed a shaman to tame the Ghostwolf because of the casting speed increase and needed to tame it in 7 seconds. I tamed it as it despawned also, that might be what needs to be done.

Seeing as how many hunters have already tamed the oily wolf with zero haste, I really don't think adding more haste is going to change the results, except to alter the remaining time on the frost trap when you hit "tame beast."

I started taming around 6-7 seconds left on the ice block. Others with less haste started around the 8-10 seconds mark. Even if you think you got the timing *exactly* right you may still have to try several times before it works as you want it to.

I got mine with 0 haste. It's all about timing where your trap is and how fare if at all the dog needs to move to get to the bait and when you start your tame. 0

No haste, trap set so dog didn't take a step and just chomped away once trap broke.. started taming at 8 secs left on trap and bam, oil puppy.

Had you read the first 4 or five pages you wouldn't have needed to ask. :D

I think most were tamed with zero haste. :D

I reset UI and it lost its blackness. Still retained oil buff. I was worried but busy questing so I just let it go. Eventually the blackness returned while I was questing. I forgot to take a screen shot.

Hello,

I'm new around here, but I've been checking Petopia for a long time to find out what my hunter can have as companions and what not. I saw a post about this originally on LJ and only got curious about it after this Friday, because of personal issues that I can't stand to watch my diseased wolf any longer.

Now, I play on a pvp server, Agamaggan, and I have my character slots maxed out. 10 classes, all Horde. Troublesome. And I can't seem to find anyone around Borean who isn't ready to just aim-shoot-hurdle-fireballs at me when I try to emote for them to wait.
So... would I have any luck finding someone around here to point me to the right place or something similar?

Unfortunately, I'm not on your server, otherwise I would help you, though thats the exact reason why I refuse to play on a pvp server.

Speaking as a pvp alliance (primarily) player, I would help you if I was on your server. :/

Such a pity. =(

I actually found an Alliance player on the server with the oil-stained puppy... in Dalaran though.
Image

Switched quickly to my hunter and looked for them for a moment. I stopped kind of in front of them after bouncing around (just to get attention perhaps), waved, clapped and congratulated in emotes. Then pointed at the pet and made the /shrug emote which I always read in a questioning way of "where? how? why? what?".

The only response I got was blank stare and they ran off somewhere. *sigh* Gotta keep looking... while trying to explain my guildees about my obsession on finding an alliance player to help.
(I don't gank unless they start it. I just mind my own business and if there's something they want to pick a fight about... oh it's on.)

Might do that, though I've never dared to post anything there.
As far as I know, for now the Alliance:Horde ratio is mayhaps decent. They've had WG quite a few times, so there might be someone who doesn't have year long grudge.

Edit:
Actually... after looking through the first 5 pages... I'm losing a bit of hope and courage to even post there. Mostly just "omg guild drama" kind of threads or simple arranged world pvp events.
