I thought they were great, for the same reason Veph explained... so much lore. :D

I had absolutely no problem with the fight sequence, once I realised what was going on - the exact same structure as the death knight end quest and the battle for Undercity - I figured I'd just go with it. It was HILARIOUS chasing Zalazane.

The troll event was more fun, because you really didn't know where the fight was going to go next. With the gnomes, it was pretty obvious which direction we were going, since there's really only one way into Gnomer! Hence people running ahead and bugging out the event. >_< Sigh!

Well tonight that's what happened, but last night the only buggy part was Tog Whachamacallim... It just felt more "for fun" and less lore rich than the troll encounter. I think.

I liked them. The troll one was more fun to run through, but the gnome one was chocked full of gnome humor, which is a special brand of corny fun all its own. I like the rewards, but wish they had gone through with the whole "overcoat" business. Apparently they don't like it when they make content to mask over content. I can agree with it from an artistic point of view. Whats the point of selling a Honda Civic at all if you can just mask over it with the form of a Ferrari. Whats the point in designing civics at all if everyone is just going to mask over it with the car they'd rather be drivin.

Still, I love the idea of polymorphs that mix the game up a bit.
I don't really feel like this is so much the "Post-Modern" era as much as its the "Pre-Zombie-Apocalpse" era. I consider myself more of a forward thinking guy and an era that just won't die is just as feasible as a coming era, where the dead come back.

I would have rather them given us a Tabard, that way we could wear it if we felt like it without sacrificing a useful gear slot.

This would definitely have been the best solution. They probably ran out of time to fix it, it sounds like they tossed the idea around for a good long while. The blue post I read said that they weren't entirely averse to the idea of letting people alter the look of their armor, but that the overcoat wasn't the right implementation, which is why they changed it.

The blue posts on the topic have been these so far:
It is true that the cloak rewards had overcloak functionality when these events were up on the public test realms some months back. In the end we decided that implementing the cloaks in such a way that players could aesthetically change the cloak they're wearing could set a bad precedent. We like customization and flavor items, but we don't want to start implementing aesthetic items in the game which allow players to look however they want while keeping all the stats they want. We felt the overcloaks were breaking that barrier a little too much.
We've been tossing around some other ideas with regard to gear customization, but we still want to make sure there are appropriate limitations on a system like this. The limited buff timer on the overcloak just wasn't enough considering it would mask any cloak of any level. We'll continue to explore ideas for fun aesthetic gear customization, but we didn't feel this was the proper introduction of this kind of system.

Yes, an overcloak would break the game, Blizz! Thank Gods you saved us! Seriously, why not a tabard instead then??
It's my only complaint though. The event was so, so awesome! Gonna do it tonight on my other level 80 and wish I could do it again. :D

Remember, there's a gnomish tabard from the argent tournament (and a trollish one), so they couldn't really get out of it that way unless they made an entirely new design based off the logos.

It's not so much that an overcloak would break the game, but more that it would break Blizzard. "If we can customize our cloaks, why can't we customize this too?" Etc., etc. >_< Plus it would cause some of the players who don't care about the stats on their armor to pretty much stop playing, cause why work to upgrade the stats on a piece of gear that you don't need to see due to the masked piece being what you want?

Totally agreed here. The gnomes are just plain silly in their own right. :)

Oh yeah, that. Strike my earlier comments then. The troll transformation toy is sufficient.

I don't like how it bugs when the gnome king is at the tunnel. like when the troggs come if anyone gos in the tunnel it bugs out and u have to wait till it resets. There's allways some deaf guy who does not listern and just runs in the tunnel *sigh*

Nope, wouldn't be able to do that. Blizz quote:
Q. What would happen if a player were to complete one faction's quest line (say, Operation: Gnomeregan) on a character, receive the Feat of Strength, and then purchase a faction change? Would that character be able to complete the other faction's quest line and receive double the rewards?
A. Yes and no. To continue with the example provided above, if a character were to complete all the quests associated with Operation: Gnomeregan on an Alliance character, receive the corresponding quest reward and Feat of Strength, and then purchase a faction change, the quest reward and Feat of Strength would translate to their Horde equivalents, but the quests would not. This means that the character would have the opportunity to play through all the quests associated with Zalazane's Fall, if he or she wishes, but would not receive an additional Feat of Strength or be able to own both faction’s costume quest rewards for doing so.

Someone was complaining that there was a guild on their server that deliberately bugged it out every time... =_= Some people have waaaay too much time (and malice) on their hands.

I got yelled at for repeatedly spamming /say in caps (something along the lines of "it doesn't make a difference to the idiots and annoys the rest of us" which is true enough, I suppose. I was just sick of having to wait for the reset...) until it actually worked and nobody bugged the encounter. Then someone said "oh look, the caps worked!"
