Lord of the Rings Online free to play
Lord of the Rings Online free to play
As of yesterday (Friday) the Lord of the Rings Online game is free to play now. Does anybody play that game? What do you think? And does anybody have a Lore Master (Lore Masters can have "pets")? Thank you!

Yay finally it's gone to ftp. Lore Masters were more like a lock from what I experienced. You would have to level to get a pet, the more levels you gained the bigger variety of pets you could call. Each type of pet you could use did different things for you (agine, kinda like a lock) and it was expected of you to support the group. You could use jewelry that you would equip to change the look of your pet. I didn't like the 'feel' of the class so I never leveled mine past 27. The pet pathing felt wonky.

I actually prefered the Captain as my 'pet' class...

Re: Lord of the Rings Online free to play
My friend and I had a sort of cross-mmo deal going on for a while, when we were each trying to convert the other. He got a lock started on my account, and I played a thief on his. At least I think it was called a thief...maybe it was burglar? The typical thief/rogue class.
Anyway, it was interesting, but it wasn't really for me. Unlike WoW, which can fluctuate between serious and silly, LoTRO just had this overbearing feeling of....seriousness for me. It just felt really stiff and non-immersive. The animations and modeling were lovely, and the scenery was to die for, but the world that it made overall just didn't cut it for me.
Which is probably a good thing, because I use a Mac anyway, and Turbine is incredibly unfriendly when it comes to mac users
Even if I wanted to play it, I couldn't.

I tried LOTRO but never really enjoyed it. As Vel said, it felt so....stale somehow. Lifeless, strict. I couldn't get into it at all and was bored to tears before I'd even played for a few hours.
Ehh, not the game for me. I highly doubt I'll ever find an MMO that I enjoy as much as WoW.

Oh good somebody else sees it the same way I do XD
Of course it works both ways. When my friend tested WoW out, he thought it was way too silly and didn't take itself seriously. He couldn't get into it because of that.
So to each his own I guess
