Beta/PTR Request - Re: Core Shamans

Unread post by Nachtwulf »

Okay, since core hounds are obviously going to be a staple item in people's stables come Cata... I'd like to ask a favor of those in a tester position.

The reason I've never used one is not that they weren't useful (well, not -so- much but not awful) nor that they weren't cool (I was -so- excited when they said they'd become tamable)...

It's because I simply cannot STAND to feel like I'm leveling with the Philadelphia Symphony percussion section charging along behind me at all times. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM... jesus christ.
(The fact that you can hear their roar across a whole freaking zone doesn't help.)

Yes I know I could turn pet sounds off, but in all other cases I -like- hearing my pet roar or screech or whatever, and what's more, it annoys everyone around me that hasn't already turned pet sounds off (which is pretty much everyone). They already de-stompified the devilsaurs, so I'm hoping that if enough people complain about core hounds they'll FINALLY get around to fixing them too. (The red ones also make a really maddening constant crackle-roar noise that gets on my nerves too, but the two other skins don't so I'm less upset about that one.)

Any help at all with this issue would be gratefully appreciated...

Aw, I really love the Core Hound sounds. ^^ The roaring fireplace noise gives such a wonderful warm ambiance, it always relaxes me. And I've never minded the stomping on Beast, I think it suits him and gives him more presence.

Vomitface's roar needs to go away. I'm less annoyed by the corehounds. Just... SOMEONE PLUG THE MOUTH OF THAT CAT! D:

It gives me a migraine and annoys my party members. And the fire noise is subversive, I don't realize how much it makes my head hurt until I put the thing away and it's all '....aaahhhh blessed silence....'

I think of all the SBs, I like Gondria's noises the best. Different enough to sound spirit-like but not quite as noisy as Loque. (Poor Arcturis and Skoll don't even sound different. :( )

Also, it would be lovely to have some new core hound skins - if it's gonna be a common sight in raids, more than 3 skins would be nice - the "hound of culuthas" skin from Dire Maul/Netherstorm/etc would be nice if they converted it to a beast. Or another mob using the corehound/dragon thing (Chromaggus?) from Blackwing Lair.

Loque's roar = awesome.

Riding tiger's roar = revolting.

As far as corehound sounds... the fire crackle is fine... but the stomping just seems a little much for it's (post tame) size. It's like firing a pistol and hearing the report from a howitzer...

Sometimes I have to mount up or swap pets to escape the constant corehound noise...but really, that's not a big deal. It's just after extended periods of time. I have the same issue with wasps (even though I love Persephone, the wings still drive me a bit batty).

Corehound and rhinos are far more "stompy" than devilsaurs to begin with anyway, since they have four legs instead of two.

I love the corehound stomp! I love the feeling that the world is trembling under his feet. Here's a suggestion Blizz... Add a feature in the sound fx category to JUST turn off pet sounds. Then people who don't like my Kurken can turn the sound off.

I think that's a great idea. That enables non-hunters to turn off the sound too, if it bothers them.

Now that you mention it... I thought that feature was already in place? Could be wrong as it's not something I'd bother with either way - I'm not going to mess with my global settings just over a few random pets here and there... ;)

That's basically it. Yes, you can turn off pet sounds. But then you turn off ALL pet sounds, period, and to me that makes them less 'real'.

The point is, like the previous poster said, I don't want to have to globally alter my game settings because one pet is infuriating to have with me, it's stupid. They de-stomped devilsaurs because of this very reason, they should do the same to all of them. It's just ridiculous to have such a loud, obnoxious sound effect when the creature isn't even all that large anymore.

They should let you use /ignore on individual player pets (including your own) - a little tired of "shhwpKRACK - ooohh!!", "STOMPITYSTOMPSTOMP!!", "THIS ISN'T IN MY CONTRACT!!", etc etc? Squelch the pest and enjoy the blissful silence...

I love Loque, sounds like I have a thunderstorm chasing me =/

Also, I love the sounds hunter pets make, gives them more personality instead of just a different looking DoT. Warlock pets *are* annoying, though =p

I used to hate corehounds for this reason. Actually, more the screen shaking every time a person with a corehound walked past. It gave me a real headache after a while, and the constant stomping sounds just added to it.

Without the screenshakes, I don't mind so much. In fact I went and tamed a corehound the other day and so far I love her. I don't mind her roar either. Mostly it was just the screenshaking.

Ah yes, the screenshaking is definitely something I could get sick of. As Vel said though, without that the stomping noise doesn't bother me at all. :)

I remember wandering around in Stormwind that first week of the 3.0 patch. Corehounds/devilsaurs/rhinos EVERYWHERE. Massive shaking and stomping. It was HILARIOUS for the first day - four corehounds in the barber shop, ha! Then it got massively annoying. T_T
