Cataclysm Beta: Mining and Herbalism gives experience

Unread post by Adam-Savage »

This is a nice and very different change that I welcome.
We've heard of people trying to play as pacifists in World of Warcraft, but there wasn't a lot of support for it in the game. A lot of the experience was earned from holiday events, battleground dailies, profession dailies, items with repeatable quests, and collection quests scattered across the game. If they played a healer, this was much easier as they could heal dungeons and battlegrounds without participating in the actual killing themselves.

Blizzard added another way to earn some experience with the latest patch for Cataclysm. You now earn experience when both gathering from mining and herbalism nodes. This is being reported about 4,000 experience for herb nodes in Wintergrasp at level 80. However, these do suffer from the same experience reduction that lower level quests are hit with. As an example, a level 83 player mining a copper node earns 5 experience, but earns a couple thousand from a titanium node.

Yeah I noticed that on the PTR. My baby shammy was getting 85 exp from herbing earthroot and 75 exp from killing a mob her level (at level 6-7). I didn't know that was the reason, but I love it!! Blizz really does pay attention to its clients' wants, eh? :D

*contemplates making a pacifist toon...*

Hahaha. I'm starting to feel a slight panic at the thought of all the toons I'll be making in Cata. Jazek will be remade (shammy in <Petopians> - I want her to begin in Echo Isles and be elemental, and well, low level elemental just plain sucks at the moment...), I'll be making two worgen (a warlock who'll be taking her time and working on Loremaster as she levels and a warrior to level with the hubby's mage), of course there will be goblins (so far I'm planning a rogue and, uhm... a mage perhaps? Or a hunter.), and I really want to make a dwarf shammy, perhaps a nelf mage, and then of course I want to try out the new Tauren starting zone, and the undead zones look like they'll be AMAZING, and... and... and... /panic :?

Hehe, yes. That's quite the roster you've drawn up there! So far, I'm "limiting" myself to a troll druid, troll hunter, worgen something, goblin hunter, maybe another dwarf hunter to go with the geology theme, goblin rogue, troll shaman...ok, yeah, I think I have too many too! That's already more slots than I have left on Nesingwary!

I thought your geology toon (which, by the way, totally has to work her way up to "Professor"!!!) was going to be an engineering goblin!

More than likely. ;) Not ruling dwarf out, though, just in case. I'm pretty sure I'll love the goblin girls. What I've seen they look like such sassy, spunky things! But, in case there is something about them that just drives me nuts, she'll be a dwarf. But, yes, otherwise. Goblin lass with engineering, working towards "Professor" :D

So this
goblin hunter, maybe another dwarf hunter to go with the geology theme
really should read "goblin hunter (or maybe another dwarf hunter if goblin doesn't work out) to go with the geology theme. :)

Goblin will rock that theme, I'm certain. :D

Hmm... in the spirit of combining toons, maybe Jazek will be a pacifist? But then elemental really isn't a logical spec for her... *ponders*

 Pun intended?

Well, you said you want to check out the Tauren area and they have druids, so maybe your pacifist could be a Tauren druid? But really, a happy, hippy male troll would be the ultimate. Taurens aren't really hippies, so much. :)
