Re: Prometheus Ponderings - SPOILERS
We saw it in 2D - the 3D was later than the babysitter could do. Although 3D has always seemed a bit murky to me (still like it though).

Re: Prometheus Ponderings - SPOILERS
this is interesting. excerpts of review from the New York Times:
“These events involve quite a bit of plot, but they’re nothing in the movie’s excessively busy overall scheme. The movie is crammed to the gills with much more information than it can hold…
… is properly cold-blooded here, but there is something almost humorous behind his nastiness. In any case, he is by far the most animated performer in a film intentionally populated by automatons.
…The end of the film is both gruesome and sentimental. Mr. Scott can’t have it both ways, any more than he can expect overdecoration to carry a film that has neither strong characters nor a strong story. That hasn’t stopped him from trying, even if it perhaps should have.”
talk about trashing.

Do you have a link?
This is a different one I found from the NYT which actually seemed pretty fair imo:

hehehe, that was a review of Bladerunner...
I think we can all agree that Bladerunner is considered a modern masterpiece of sci-fi cinema. and it sort of shows that only time can really separate the wheat from the chaff.
This is why I put very little credence in film critics' opinions.

Re: Prometheus Ponderings - SPOILERS
The problem I see with that is they take 2,000+ years to come wipe us out for it? It doesn't make sense, although there is a lot of Christian allegory and symbolism in it to suggest there is more to it than a mere coincedence. The most stand out line was "If they made us, who made them?" or words to that effect.Sukurachi wrote:cowmuflage wrote:I read someone's theory is that a Space jockey was Jesus and when we killed him they where so shocked they wanted to kill us all!
the deconstruction wasn't quite that.
it's that Jesus was an "emissary" of sorts sent by the Engineers.
and Ridley Scott HAS alluded to this in various interviews.
I liked it, it ties well into the Alien universe but it doesn't stick strictly to it either, giving it it's own story to tell.

Re: Prometheus Ponderings - SPOILERS
I did not like the Ridley Scott interview and wish I hadn't read it. It felt like he went off on a tangent about stuff that (to me), really didn't fit.
E.g. I like the idea of the engineers making an early appearance back in 35,000 BC and then clearing the heck out, thus becoming enigmatic and distant.
And I'm OK with the idea of them gearing up to return and wipe us out (for deliberately vague reasons) back in year zero, but having the operation put on hold due to a lab meltdown, as was also suggested in the movie.
To me, the engineers work (and work damn well) as a plot device only so long as their motives as regards us, match their general demeanor, which is to say their motives should be rather cold, esoteric and self-interested, where our wellbeing as a race is incidental to them. It is a horror movie after all..
What I do not like is the idea of having them hanging around watching us and meddling in our ongoing history as some sort of invisible hand a la X-Files, or that the planned earth destruction was due to some sort of failed morality test on our part, which seemed to be what Ridley was alluding to in his little Aliens riff, at least as I interpreted it.
My hope is that he was more spitballing there, and that what actually happens in Prometheus II gets decided by more than just him...
