Mine shall be Walnuts. Or maybe Dumblikea.

Yes, I watched too much Invader Zim back in the day.

*coughs* Um it may be just me. But from the videos /screen shots of the moose I've seen they look really small. Granted it could be bad camera angles etc etc but still. In the release video either that grass is really tall or that's a pygmy moose. Which regardless I am totally find with. But. Still. I want GIANT MOOSE OF DOOM! Not pygmy moose of snit fit.

Hell I'd tame a pygmy moose. That almost makes um better!

But I still wanna ride one. MOOSE MOUNTS FOR ALL!

Whelp. Pygmy moose of snit fit looks like a big possibility given the look of the moose mount.

So this:

Compared to this:

LOOK HOW SHORT IT'S LITTLE LEGS ARE!

*shakes head @ Blizzard*

I'm sure the wild moose are same skin as the mount. Which is probably the yak skeleton /skin. Sorry but color me disappointment.

Hehe, yeah, real moose are very gangly. But Warcraft animals have always been a slightly artistic take on real world ones. I don't always love their choices (though often I do), but I actually like this design, as real world moose look like their legs should break off. But if they did want a leggier moose, they could experiment with giving them the legs from the camel ;)

Shorter, thicker legs would be a beneficial when it comes to carrying rather heavy passengers, though.

And when it comes to a potential moose hunter pet, they'd be an advantage. Real life moose are dangerous as heck. The one pictured above may look laid back standing there, but he's got his antlers fully in, which means it's rutting season which makes him even more dangerous. Now take that aggressiveness and add in a moos that's been ridiculed all his life because he has short thick legs and you've got a pet with a major chip on its shoulder. Heck, they should outdps all other pets!

I love that the moose mount has what appears to be a powder horn on it's side. If that's what it is, will be sorely tempted to finally buy a store mount.

For taming one? I'd probably rather have a shoveltusk instead.

I wanna tame a Shoveltusk so bad. I just want to rage into battle with one of those ugly bastages. Make an antler family to fit it in, or make it a Bird of Prey, I don't care, I just want one

They don't need an additonal family, but Blizz jumbled the families already. Why are horned and antlered beasts in the same family? Sometimes I think Blizz doesn't own a single science book.

(Want to apply for job of chief science officer at Blizz... they need the help).

Yeah, I guess it's a paraphyletic group, much as "Birds of Prey" is. Stags seems to be anything that butts, except for goats. If we went by natural grouping then goats, antelopes, rams and probably talbuks would be together (even though the latter are an imaginary animal, they do seem to be caprids).

Yep. Can't tell if Shoveltusks shed their horns/antlers or not. Are they any sitting around in Northrend like you'd expect if they are shed?

They do look like antlers. Though if they shed the creature would have a weird bony skull :) They really are a strange (and cool) imaginary creature.

Yeah, the shape certainly suggests antlers, but the attachment to the head suggests horn. That would be hard to grow out each year..

A shoveltusk is what happens when a moose breeds with and elephant.

Pretty much, though I thought I read somewhere that their design overall was based on the crazy Ice Age megafauna.

Close-up of what we might expect the moose beast to look like, if you ignore the glowing bits...

The model above is the mount model with the harness removed. Perhaps the beast version will look a little different, but probably not too much.

And yes, it does the stag dance.

Aww. He looks grumpy. I guess that's to be expected though. You try to get a good night's sleep with your antlers glowing all the time.

Darnit! Looks like you were right... Poor Sam's legs have been shrunk! Hmm... I might need to find a different name.

The mane around the front end does give it the illusion of having shorter legs than it really does. They're clearly still not as long as a real-world moose, but still longer than they may appear. Having said that I like it as it is :)
