Beasts and potential new pets

Unread post by Wain »

At this stage we haven't spotted a lot in the footage.

* One of the zone scenes shows a moose/elk (around 1:03). It seems reasonable to expect this would become tameable in the Stag family:
Image

* There's a bird flying in the background of the same moose footage. It's a bit faint but I think it's just a standard eagle model.

* Some footage of a pond in a forest (around 1:12) shows a standard Pandaren-style white crane at the very bottom. But we can always hope they create some new colours. (And if anyone in the Art team is reading, I can provide you with some skin files for these interesting recolours! )

* In some footage (around 1:09 - 1:10) showing a very angry Drogbar you can see a worm covered in bones emerge on the far left. It's difficult to tell but it may just be the old model and may be a placeholder. Its posture makes me think it's yet another in-ground worm, which would be very frustrating unless they make a full version as well.
Image

* In addition we've seen upgraded Druid cat forms. I haven't examined them closely but I suspect they're based on the "Saber2" model that the Runesaber mount was also based on. In which case I would fully expect we'll see wild saber cats of a new model. While we already have 94564568908945064 cats to tame, a shiny new model is always welcome, I say.

* A shot of the "moose tauren" camp shows a kodo skull and some strung-up tallstriders. While these are stock artwork for Tauren villages, we might expect both creatures to be native to the Isles. A new tallstrider model would be awesome. There's already a new kodo model, but so far we've only seen a mount version (used for the new Vicious War Kodo mount).

* One scene (around 0:56) also shows light (with purple or pink highlights? spectral?) hippogryphs flying about, but they seem to be mounts. They seem to be using the new model. They're definitely not the original Silver Covenant Hippogryphs. The point is moot since hippogryphs aren't currently tameable, but it's interesting anyway. Tameable or not, hopefully the new continent will contain wild hippogryphs using the new model.
Image

- Since they're using some of the beasts from Pandaria, maybe we'll finally see the missing purple stag.

The Boneworm seems like the same old model.

The Hippogryph actually seems like a spectral Emerald Hippogryph.

I'm expecting Moose mounts.

I did wonder that. It was so covered in crap and small that it was hard to tell. :/ If so maybe it's a placeholder for something to come.

That's a thought, but I think the colours are all wrong for that. I don't think spectral on orange would give that purple chest. I'm really hoping it's a new colour. I suspect they've been working on this art for a very long time (before they settled on Draenor being the next expac) and decided to throw one of the colours to the Store back when we were still in Pandaria.

Yeah. We were promised them long ago! :)

As I mentioned in another thread I'm hoping for some new Sabers both as mounts and as pets we could tame.

Hellhounds! HELLHOUNDS! We'll never have a better chance than now!

Ok, I know the chances of them becoming tameable beasts is next to zero, but a girl can dream. I want to tame one and have a macro when I use it that says "Fetch your supper! Hahahahaha!" :P

I wouldn't mind seeing more sabers either. Maybe an updated bear too.

The hyppo looks like the pink model that was around when the first mount model came out. I really loved that one so I hope it's along those lines :)

I did some experimenting and you could well be right.

The model has a blue mist applied to it, which affects the colour a lot. In addition the zone lighting is very blue.

Here's the image with the white balance adjusted. Obviously the brightness is whacked but it's looking a lot more like the Emerald Hippogryph:

I think we have a really good chance to get new bears this xpack. lots of night elf and northrend stuff so in short, there will be sooo many forests. not to mention they said we would be working with demigods. one of them is a bear, isn't it? my lore is not that great.

I bet we can come up with a list of probable species just by glancing around the night elf and vrykul zones we have right now. And Hyjal of course.

Yep, I mentioned these in the other thread, but just thinking back to Northrend and Night elf zones we could get:

Elk
Bears
Wolves
Sabers
Hawks/eagles
Owls
Shoveltusk
Proto-drakes
Seals
Hippogryphs
Rhinos
Worms
Maybe even foxes

The Vrykul could have easily brought the Proto-drakes with them. Also, the Tauren at Highmountain had tallstrider meat hanging up in one screenshot, so one can hope for some new Tallstriders as well.

I doubt they all would get new models, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them wandering around the continent. I hope we get some entirely new species as well though.

I would love to see some new night elf owls. :D the gem and spirit ones are so pretty. Sabers seems like another awesome given. It would be cool if we found updated lynx models too. they were a favorite of mine and they have been long forgotten. also, totally overlooked the proto drake possibility. you are probably 100% right. they would have taken some of their protos with them. *crosses fingers for more proto mounts*

also i think there is a good chance we could get a Hippogryph family this xpack. which would be quite lovely. I am trying to think of other non-tamable creatures we know of that could fit the theme as a new family but i'm not coming up with much. although i'm sure we will be getting some never before seen species too.

They've just got to let us tame moose. With the stag family, it would be a TRAVESTY if they didn't. TRAVESTY. *dramatic flailing*

As long as they don't sack anyone and spend the rest of the budget on llamas, we should be good!

Seriously tho...totally behind Moose for everything. MOOSE.

.....I NEED TO HAVE A MOOSE! [flails] He will be named Sam (or Sammy, I can't decide), and he will be glorious in all of his tall moose-ness!

Ahem. In all seriousness, though, I would love to see some new hippogryphs and dear god, owls. We've seen some pretty nice newer "bird of prey" models, but they've been mainly "eagle" style. The more round-faced birbs haven't gotten any love. >.>
