How so? You're blaming the victim. Regardless of whether a person is dumb, careless, or just doesn't know of a given danger, the perpetrator is the culprit.

Besides, nobody is asking compensation after being hacked. They ask for their account to be restored, yes (and Blizz has a precedent of restoring it, so it's not an unreasonable request), but nobody I've heard of asks for compensation.

Some of the smartest people I know have been victims of crimes where it's easy to stand there as an outsider and say "didn't you see? didn't you realise?" - but the fact remains that crime occurs all the time and the only person we should blame for it is the criminal. I understand saying "he should be more careful with his belongings/account/safety/whatever" but that's a far cry from saying "he asked for it" or worse, "he deserved it."

I'm going to have to agree 100% with Sarayana on this one. No one deserves to have such a thing happen to them, even if it is just a game. Although the consequences are far less severe with World of Warcraft accounts, blaming the victim is still blaming the victim, and sometimes people are caught at their weakest moment.

Even thought they had bad english, i went to that website and added my account info in it. Didn't do anything.

Also said I would get 10,000 gold and a Celestial Steed for my troubles... but I still havent recieved anything yet. Maybe if i put my friends account info in they might send him it too.

Except there's a rather 180-degree-ish difference between asking someone to jump off a building and asking them to go to a website, so that comparison doesn't work either.

No matter how you slice it, blaming the (actively preyed upon) victim shifts the responsibility away from the perp.

Except there isn't. There's no real difference between someone saying "Jump off this building and I'll give you money!" and someone saying "Give me your account info and I'll give you money!". It takes responsibility in both cases.

Just hope that going to that site by itself, doesn't infect your machine with keyloggers, trojans and various other nasty organisms, which is a definite possibility with attack sites (and having an antivirus program isn't 100% protection)...

I never got hacked yet, even without a authenticator.

But somehow, if you fall for that and you aren't a noob, you kind of deserve it. No Blizz-icon, no GM. It's that simple, like Saturo said. If I got just 1 € (or $) for each e-mail telling me that my account has been used in something fishy and I have to log in to make sure it isn't banned, I'd stop working instantly.

Those idiots not only send english mails to a german account, no, they also use an e-mail adress I use in forums and stuff, that has nothing to do with my account.

But sometimes, I feel the urge to go to china and punch some faces...

It's obvious no one's going to agree on the current subject here, so let's drop it before this becomes more hostile.

I've gotten these more and more recently. It's almost clever how at first glance the name looks like 'Blizzard,' but that's just first glance. I've long since learned to double-check and reread everything of importance before making any decisions.

Plus as everyone has stated, I've never seen the blizz square before the names, so no worries. It ain't real.

Mostly I just laugh at these now.
