Ugh. I'm beginning to think that posting about Hawkbane on the official forums was a bad idea, because one post has... offended me quite deeply. *sighs*

If I ever said anything to you that raised your hackles, I'm sorry. This is just a very touchy subject for me, something that's bothered me for years and I want to finally get to the bottom of it one way or another.

I'm not good at talking to or dealing with people period, which is why it took me this long to finally speak out about this, but I wanted to try and make people aware of this there as well as here. Though I never said a thing about it before when everyone was fighting for Gezzarak to be made tamable again, I supported the idea and I'm very happy the wish was granted. Hawkbane is my Gezzarak, if that makes any sense, and I'm sorry if it doesn't.

I misread that, but realized it halfway through writing my apology, so I wanted to finish it because I felt I needed to. And in regards to your earlier post, Kalli: You and me both. I ran into a fellow hunter a while back who either had him or had a white tiger with his name, but it upset me to the point where I turned and ran away from them because I didn't want to see it. That cat effects me that much. If he were given the dawnsaber skin, I would die and go to heaven ten times over. I absolutely love it on the mounts, and both of my night elves always use them over their other kitties.

@Samarachan - You actually got to see him? Lucky, lucky you! I'm sorry he killed you, though. ^_^; Really? That's awesome, I'm sure he'd be honored. *smiles* If there were a way to make people aware of Hawkbane over on the EU forums, that would be nice, even if it ended up not really going anywhere. Gezzarak got her second chance and she was never completely removed from the game. Hawkbane deserves one, too.

I know there's a couple posters on the official thread trying to stir up discord, but just let those types of comments roll off your back. I think your outlook on the subject has been explained with all the clarity possible. If people still don't understand or agree, that's fine. If they're intentionally trolling the thread, use the handy vote system on the new forum and vote them down then just ignore them. Don't bother replying or trying to reiterate your stance, it will only give them more ammo. Ultimately your only concern is with Blizzard seeing the topic, and if they do they'll ignore the the fruitless replies just as surely as anyone else, so don't let that get to you. ^^

Yep, Kalliope is right. I guess I should rephrase: if you are bothered by the responses that you got on your thread on the official forums (well, a couple responses in particular), then it probably isn't a good idea for you to post on the official forums, since it can and will get worse than that. I don't blame you, because I personally avoid posting on the official forums for the very reason that I gave above.

Posting on the official forums takes guts, thick skin, low expectations, and a supply of lowbie alts.

My take on what happened to Hawkbane is that he was unfinished content -- he may have been a quest target for Skettis rep. However, something happened that prevented the quest from being implemented in-game -- the quest might not have been approved by Chris Metzen, deadlines may have been missed, etc. He still ended up becoming a pretty popular subject on thottbot, etc. There were rumors that GMs were saying he was still in-game, but had been moved. One report claimed that 2 GMs confirmed he was on a 7-day spawn timer in his original location.

In June of '07, Mania blogged about him:

After patch 2.1, people mostly reported that GMs said he was no longer in the game. I sure wouldn't mind seeing him back.

*nodnod* I fully understand where you're coming from on this, Toph, because I was in the same boat about Gezzarak. I've been there, and I know how desperate it can feel, so even though I don't have any desire for Hawkbane myself I will completely support his return.

@Veph - I haven't said anything else, but it did make me roll my eyes. I'll more than likely use the voting system as well, thanks for telling me about that, too. I've been having anxiety attacks all day over this because of how nervous I am, but we can't give up. I'm so glad you finally got Gezzarak and Gorebite, since they mean so much to you.

@Cialbi - Of course, none at all! ^_^ I'll try to not let them bother me so long as a dev will finally give us an answer. Even if this doesn't end up with Hawkbane's return, just so long as we finally get an answer.

Hey, that's what this community is for. Even among Hunters we're a bit of a minority with our devotion to pets...it's no surprise that we'll be given odd looks by other folks, but that's why we stick together here.

You're right about that, though it makes me sad that so many don't understand. I can't even go to Skettis, at least not on Toph, without being upset. I admit I tamed Gezzarak as soon as she was made tamable again not only because I love her appearance, but I had hoped she'd help to ease the pain left by Hawkbane's disappearance, but sadly, it hasn't been working. I'm just not feeling a bond with her like I want to. She's... not Hawkbane.

I have to say Toph, I haven't felt how you do about any particular pet in the game, but I have felt that way about certain animals in real life (mostly horses that I was training and thinking of buying for myself only to have them sold out from under me). I wish you the best of luck that someone sees your posts (either here or on the WoW forums) and they restore Hawkbane.


And on a side note - OMG...Hawkbane with dawn saber skin! I forget who mentioned it -but Brilliant Idea! Yeah, if Blizz brought him back with that skin I'd totally tame him and then I'd be known as the Crazy Cat Lady.

Toph, I hope they bring back Hawkbane for you and those who want him, whether it be his old skin or a new one. I feel a great attachment to my pets in the game in general, so I see where you're coming from. I'm also curious to find out why they took him away, since there doesn't seem to be any proper reason for it!

Try not to let the jerks on the forums stress you out, just remember that they are most likely very unhappy people who feel the need to insult others to boost their tiny egos, probably since they go so unnoticed in real life, or have been treated badly themselves. When you think of it that way, the rudeness seems less terrible.

Trying to think, but I remember reading something about Hawkbane having a problem with his respawning, he was spawning in things, under things (like the ground) and over all glitching on respawn a good amount of the time so instead of fixing the issue, they removed him from the game. It had to do with some change they had to do to the area in which he spawned that started causing the issues.

You know....if that's the reason, then we really ought to see him again. I mean heck, Blizz just redid ALL OF AZEROTH. This is old hat for them now.
