I don't see why those topics will get missed just because they're in their own sub-forums. The "Name That Pet" and "Avatars and Signatures" are both sub-forums and they get plenty of traffic. And those who use the "View New Posts" feature will still see them as well.

We're not trying to get rid of these posts, we still want them around. In their own forum, they'll get their own special set of attention there, and it's pretty clear that a few members of this forum agree.

The majority voice is that this would be a great way to reduce clutter and give those people their grats.

That can already be said for what we have now. :P If you dont wanna read it, then dont. Simple as that. Scrolling isnt that difficult. I have no trouble finding topics. You make it sound like its impossible to find them.

@Tyger: Not true for the most part. Name is only used cause mods have to move them from discussion(I've reported many a times and I hate doing so cause its more work for the mods). Avatar one isnt used much either, least the ones with actual art and avatars like Moonlost or Veph. I rarely see much go on there except maybe one or two topics popping up. Pet Discussion is far more active. Like I said, I've spoken to some members(they'll remain anonymous until they wanna come forth) and they've also agreed it sounds like too much hassle. We're big but not THAT big to really change the forum that much. Most of those tame threads die off within a few days and all the more important(or not so important) topics are on Page 1 for easy access.

I'm doubting I'll be swayed on this. I'm pretty firm on my opinion about it.

The problem is that topics that could be important or interesting to read get lost very quickly on these forums because of all the "I tamed so and so" threads that get created (as well as the "Where are you" threads).

A quiet minority doesn't get changes made (or not) without being vocal. So far the vocal majority is in agreement with this sub-forum. Just because you may not use the other sub-forums already in existence doesn't mean others don't. The sub-forums in this community stay as active as one would expect them too. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make things easier to find/read.

Removed some of the quarrelsome replies in here. Please refrain from getting too heated, it's just an idea. ;)

Feel free to state reasons for/against this, but the final decision will rest with Mania of course.

Solution 1: Use the bookmarks. Thats why Mania even has them there.
Solution 2: Use the subscription. Again....why Mania gives us the option. Goes right to our email directly.
Solution 3: Use the search engine.

Right there. 3 solutions. Most questions are almost always answered before they get presumably 'lost' as you put it.

Another thought on this is, no matter the tools that are available, topics on the second page of a forum are simply less likely to get a reply, and topics on the Pet Discussion forum will quickly get swept onto the second page. By the time that happens, the topic will surely have gotten a reply or two, but not necessarily have gotten a reply with the answer that the OP was looking for.

To put that into fewer words, you can have as many forum tools available as you want, but their impact is going to be diluted by the proportion of users who simply don't utilize them.

Thank you. Couldn't figure out how I wanted to word that and you hit the nail on the head. ^_^

Also, the email feature, to me personally, is more annoying than anything. I use the "new posts" feature here and find that hitting the refresh button is far more useful than having to check my email. (That's just me personally and the way I like to handle things, I'm sure there's others who like the email feature. I just find it too spammy.)

Well if they're gonna be lazy then you probably dont want their input then. Not being mean by that statement either. Most topics, though, that are on the second page, already have replies and have their questions answers so....kinda makes that moot point.

As for the email feature, I love it merely cause it pops up to tell me I got a reply when I'm looking at wow.

I have to disagree with your point about second page threads. With the vast amounts of threads in the Discussions forum, I find often there are many important, often unanswered threads as deep as the third page, and back when Cata hit, as deep as 6 pages.

Another problem I see with this is often it's the threads that DO have answers, or are merely "YAY, I tamed..." topics that are on the front page, as many like using these to socialize, which I think is fine, but overwhelming. Creating a Sub-Forum for "I tamed..." and other such topics would significantly reduce redundant and outdated threads, and keep the informative threads near the top.

You and I are seeing different. I'm on during day and night times of the forums so I see a lot of fluctuation. Also a lot of those topics were already answered long before cata hit and Veph redirected them to the cata threads. That was an answer.

Anyway, things like that will always happen when an expansion hits so I think thats a very poor example as there isnt an expansion hitting every week or something. So using the 'when cata hit...' example isnt the best choice. WowHead forums are even bombarded that day. But more often than not, I've read those threads and Veph always redirected people to the cata forums to get their information. Thread wasnt always locked but it was answered.

Meh, I seem to be the only one with guts to speak my mind on it. I pray Mania sees to reason that such a forum is unnecessary until we get much bigger...like mmo champ bigger.

I believe everyone will have this same view about their own opinion. It seems pointless to continue trying to change each other's minds in here, it's really just leading to cyclical disagreements. There's no reason to argue back and forth over this.

I agree. We're all pretty firm in our stance on this matter. Perhaps lock the thread and direct Mania to it later? Just a suggestion since we're going in circles. :)

Thanks for keeping us on track, Vephriel. ;)

I'm really glad to get different ideas on ways to organize the forums and subforums. I've been wanting to tweak the organization but then I decided to work on the theme first in case it changed things, and ... well, that didn't turns out so well.

Anyway, I've been watching these threads and thinking about them even when I haven't responded. Well, to be honestly this one appeared and was locked while I was still asleep, so calling that watching may be a bit much. But regardless, I read it and bookmarked it so I can come back here and read over the thoughts again.)
