Yes, frozen with toolbar--fairly certain it's your own phase.

And, same issue regarding PTR/bethekk kitties :( Also not sure if the monkeys are color-changers--I don't THINK they were but perhaps someone else can recheck it!

(I say someone else because I'm currently busy on Live trying to grind ~12k gold in a day  )

Well most the ones I knew for sure has already been confirmed but one, the black bear has been gone since the shattering. It used to be a little ways down the mountain from the airport on the Wetlands side. I actually was kind of sad about that, she was just sitting there with her two young black bears watching them. (only bear I had seen in a sitting position till the ones in Wotlk) There was also a few more dotting along the mountain really spread out.

Vile Bat 3866

Judging from the screenshot on WoWhead, I think this was the red bat that used to spawn in Shadowfang Keep before they revamped the dungeon.

I remember, since I went to tame him on Toeph, my Tauren Hunter in <Petopians>, before the Shattering. I don't have any screenies in his pre-tamed state (I went back and checked), but I'm pretty sure my Ozai was originally a Vile Bat.

Edit: I was right. He's already listed on Petopia under "Extinct Pets"

The same thing's true of 3862: Slavering Worg. They used to be found in Shadowfang Keep's courtyard. There are no wolves of any type in the instance now. They are also on Petopia's Extinct Pets page already.

4129: Hecklefang Snarler (Hyena)
4128: Hecklefang Stalker (Hyena)
6013: Wayward Buzzard (Carrion Bird)

These three are also on the Extinct Pets page, though the hyenas used to be in the Southern Barrens, and the buzzard in the Badlands. I'm still not back online yet, so could somebody check these, just to make sure? Thanks.

The black bear *may* be back in 4.1. There are new black bears with cubs at an abandoned campsite in a hidden valley in Dun Morogh (and some scared dwarves hiding in adjacent trees!). The problem is since NPCscan currently doesn't work on the PTR we can't be certain whether they're the same ID as the black bear that used to be at the airport or the black bears in Loch Modan.

Thanks Cerah! I'll remove those SFK ones. One of them was moved to Deepholm but the rest are probably genuinely extinct now. It was just nice to double check this.

Confirmed in ZG on the PTR:

Curious Jungle Monkeys (52441) are colour-changers and exhibit all four skin variants.

Venomtip Needlers (52379) have the worker wasp model and are also colour-changers, exhibiting four colours: silithidwaspbossskin (orange), silithidwaspbossskin3 (blue/dark purple), silithidwaspbossskin5 (green with red), silithidwaspbossskin2 (purple/pinkish purple). These are the four colours that appear individually on various Florawing Needler NPCs, but the latter are colour-stable.

Zulian Gnashers (52413) have the Cata croc model and are colour-changers with two colours: crocodilecataclysmgreen (teal body, blue fins) and crocodilecataclysmblue (grey body, green fins)

The Prides of Bethekk (52345) patrolling the Temple of Bethekk grounds are tameable. The ones in the basement by the boss seem to be the other id (52061). They aren't even targettable till the boss is activated. I die too fast solo to finish the tame, but I can certainly commence the tame.

The Zul'gurub Eagle (52347) is a non-targettable mob that patrols the temple area. It's basically set as a cosmetic addition. So not tameable.

Just confirming that Bloodsnarl Scavengers are indeed the hyenas involved in the quest "Salhet the Tactician." From what I can tell, it's completely phased and yeah, you're stuck in the vehicle. The minute you get out, you return to the non-hyena phase. They use the orange hyena skin.

Thanks yeah :) I just got a toon up to that quest on the ptr to check as well. The only way I could see would be if someone in your group (who also hasn't done the quests and is still in your phase) can see the hyenas when they spawn. I suspect not, but it's not impossible.

The list is really shrinking! :D

52061: Pride of Bethekk (Cat)

Any chance a pair of hunters on the PTR could sneak down to the Bethekk's temple basement and test if these are tameable? If you head west from the entrance and across the rocky edge at the top of the waterfall on the you can avoid all the trash all the way into the temple. If you're careful you can get all the way to the bottom without fighting a single thing.

Note that the ones outside are a different id to these. These ones are asleep in packs around the boss. They can't be attacked or tamed at all until the boss is engaged. It should be possible for one hunter with a tanking pet to engage the boss and last long enough for the second to try to tame one of the kitties. If you manage to do so, could you please then leave the instance, clear your creature cache and use NPCScan to confirm it really is the above id?

Unfortunately I don't have anyone on the PTR to help me and it's impossible to solo tame... as soon as I dismiss my pet the boss kills me, before I can even start the tame.

Thanks for any help :) If nobody manages it I'll have to try to goad a friend into downloading the PTR and helping me out. So far I haven't had any luck with that.

I took a pass at the old locations for these three earlier:
- Hecklefang Snarler 4129
- Hecklefang Stalker 4128
- Wayward Buzzard 6013

According to Wowhead's archive database, the hyenas were in what is now Southern Barrens. The location for the Snarlers north of Taurajo seems to have been overrun by a lot of Pridemane lions. There are a few Hecklefang Scavengers moving around. The Stalkers were around what is now a scar from the shattering, which is overrun by earth elementals and kodos. No hyenas in sight.

The Wayward Buzzard's old location in the Badlands is now the Scar of the Worldbreaker, so Deathwing's fire probably killed it. Parched Buzzards can be found slightly to the east of the burnt northern pillar, and because they did not exist pre-Cataclysm, they are probably the replacements for the Wayward Buzzards.

Thanks Loronar! I suspected they were gone, but decided to leave them till the last minute. I'll just remove them from the list now.

I've just started levelling a worgen to check the starting zone beasts that have multiple ids. Aside from that there's just the Pride of Bethekk that spawns by the boss in the basement of the temple. I've finally found a friend who is willing to come with me and check that one. And also Bloodsnarl Scavengers from the Uldum quest... need a second person who is up to that phase to check that you can't see/tame them when someone else is doing the quest.

OK, the second Pride of Bethekk (onces in the boss fight) confirmed not tameable. Once the boss is engaged you can aggro them but they can't be tamed.

Got a friend who was leveling in Uldum to let me tag along, I couldn't see her, the active lions, or the hyenas while she was doing the quest with the Bloodsnarl Scavengers—she was listed as being in a different phase on my UI while in the vehicle.

(I'd already done the quest, I don't know if that's actually relevant but I'm mentioning it just in case there's something weird where you can see them if someone else is doing it but you haven't yet!).

They'd definitely be hidden if you've already done the quest. Even if you haven't I suspect they'd be in a separate phase during that part but I don't know for sure. Thanks for checking anyway :)

Update: I checked on the PTR with two players, both up to the "Salhet the Tactician" quest and in party. As soon as one enters the lion control phase, they vanish into a separate phase. The other player cannot see them or the spawning hyenas.

That really just leaves a few Gilneas mobs now and then it's all over! (Well, apart from getting the relevant ones added to Petopia's database).

Latest update: ran a worgen through all the starting quests, but failed to find a few of the beasts reported on Wowhead:
38468: Gilnean Mastiff - actually this one set off my npcscan in Merchant Square during the battle for Gilneas but I could never locate one!
44108: Swamp Crocolisk (other Swamp Crocolisk ids were available and tameable, but not these)
44109: Marsh Snapper (Turtle)
44130: Vilebrood Webspinner (Spider)

Not sure if I missed them or not.

The last things have been checked! It's done! :)

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. It saved me many, many hours more work. I'm sure Mania will appreciate it too, once we get the missing things added to Petopia.

I *think* we now have all this data up on Petopia. If there are mistakes I am sure they are mine. ;)

And may I just say that everyone who helped in this thread - you people are just amazing. Thank you so much.
