REQUEST FOR HELP: checking unlisted beasts

I've recently been going through and adding NPC ids to all the beasts listed in Petopia. In the process I found a bunch of things (> 170) listed as tamable on Wowhead but aren't listed in Petopia's database. These could be for several reasons:
(i) they're in-game beasts that are genuinely missing from Petopia
(ii) they've been removed from the game at some point but Wowhead still thinks they're in (there are a number those!)
(iii) they're not tameable but Wowhead thinks they are (in which case we could possibly add them anyway)
(iv) they may only have become tamable on the 4.1 PTR and we haven't realized yet

Now 170+ creatures are a LOT to check. It'd take me weeks! I was hoping that if I posted the list here, maybe some intrepid, enthusiastic and kind people could help me crowd source it.

Basically, take a look at the list I'll post next and follow the link to see the Wowhead page for the beast, and note in a reply that you can confirm if it does or doesn't seem to exist in the game and if you could tame it. For summoned beasts, if they're flagged as tamable, but give a "already controlled" message, that would be handy info too. Or any other unusual info you can report about the creature. But most of them should hopefully be pretty vanilla and it's just a matter of noting whether (i) they're in game, (ii) tameable or not, (iii) if it's a colour-changer (Wowhead wouldn't have that info).

48209: Bloodsnarl Scavenger (Hyena) - NOT tameable. Only spawns during the quest "Salhet the Tactician". During this quest the player is immobilized by a control interface and cannot tame. They are in a different phase to all other players, including those up to the same quest in the same party
48199: Bloodsnarl Scavenger (Hyena) - NOT tameable. See above.
37078: Swamp Crocolisk (Crocolisk) - appears in exact same location and phase as the 36882 version. Same colour, tameable.
44108: Swamp Crocolisk (Crocolisk) - tameable, same as the others but occurs only in a late phase of the swamp area, worgen only
44109: Marsh Snapper (Turtle) - grey/pink turtle, level 6-7, tameable, occurs only in a late phase of the swamp area, worgen only

Wolf <Orako's Pet> 42104 & Wolf <Orako's Pet> 42002 - Friendly to Horde. Has helmet on head. Only spawns after certain quest point. Reportedly not tameable by Alliance. Too complicated to bother including on the list as an untameable.
Gilnean Mastiff 38844 - one of four different versions of the beast with the same name. All are friendly and untameable. These only occur as pets of Lorna Crowley in one phase. Silly to catalogue them all when they're all untameable

I can't help too much, unfortuately, since I'm taking a WoW vacation currently in order to focus on final essays for school. But there's a couple beasts I can help with.

5456:Centipaar Stinger

As of November 25, 2010 at least, these are tamable. I remember taming one on a flaky whim while waiting for Anamiss to spawn, and toying with the idea of an all-purple silithid "brood". You can tell the screenie's in Tanaris, since the eggs for one of the baby vemonhide ravager dailies are in the background.

If it was tamable then, it's probably tamable now.

47750: Drained Venomblood Scorpid.

Cannot be tamed. Part of the quest "Venomblood Antidote", these are the dead, red-skinned scorpids that appear after you kill and drain a black and red, Venomblood Scorpid for the quest.

3121: Durotar Tiger

No longer in the game. These were the tigers that used to live on the Echo Isles in Durotar pre-Cataclysm. When that area was redone into the Troll starting zone, the tigers were taken out.

2275: Enraged Stanley

No longer in the game. He was originally spawned from a quest at the farms in Hillsbrad Foothills. Now, that entire area has been taken over by the Forsaken and the farms and all the NPCs that used to be there are just gone. WoWhead lists his quest as obsolete.

52345: Pride of Bethekk (Cat)
52061: Pride of Bethekk (Cat) *Wowhead's links are broken

No longer in the game. These were the black panthers that Bethekk, a boss in Zul'Gurub, would summon during her encounter. They might bring these back in 4.1, but I doubt it.

3250: Silithid Creeper

No longer in the game. This was one of the green scorpids that used to be at the silithid hive in the Barrens. Taken out in the Cataclysm when the Barrens were split in half.

4548: Steelsnap

No longer in the game. Was a quest mob for the pseudo-Hunter's quest "Steelsnap's Rib",that used to be given out in Thunderbluff (which almost all my Alterac alts did at one point or another). He hasn't been seen since Thousand Needles flooded.

767: Swamp Jaguar

No longer in the game. These were removed (and all their Large Fangs with them) from the Swamp of Sorrows after the Shattering.

-These are stealthed spiders, they seem to be in the same area that's currently pinpointed on Wowhead. Not sure if they were missed because they're rogues. They were being sneaky.

31404: Azure Manabeast (Dog)
-Confirmed to exist and are tameable. They walk around with a dragon master, but there is no error message of already being controlled. You can tame one even if the dragon is still alive and accompanying it.

26672: Bloodthirsty Tundra Wolf (Wolf)
-I checked the ones in Heroic mode (these guys are found in Utgarde Pinnacle), and they were tameable, so I assume the regular mode ones are as well. (sidenote: While running through UP I decided to kill Skadi since I was in there. OmgBlueProtoDrakeDrop! *flail*)


Removed From Game
8957: Angerclaw Grizzly (Bear)
-Appears to be extinct. There are a number of Angerclaw Bears and Maulers, but no Grizzlies. Flew all around with npcscan active as well and didn't pick any up, so I think it's safe to say they're no longer in game.

11921: Besseleth (Spider)
-Removed from game. She was an old quest objective. The tarantula area of Stonetalon had a bit of a makeover, there is now a giant patrolling spider named Queen Silith that seems to have taken over as the colony 'matriarch'.

3861: Bleak Worg (Wolf)
-Old mob from the original Shadowfang Keep instance. They no longer exist.

2954: Bristleback Battleboar (Boar)
-No longer exist, seem to be replaced by the new mob Young Battleboar.


Unsure/Needs Confirmation
3868: Blood Seeker (Bat)
-Now this is an interesting case. The Blood Seeker used to be a bat mob found within Shadowfang Keep. For some inexplicable reason that exact same mob and NPC ID now randomly spawn in Deepholm as a spawn-share with the rare dragon Aeonaxx. Much like Vyragosa and Time Lost Proto Drake shared a spawn and a route, this Blood Seeker will appear instead of Aeonaxx at his spawn points. Here's the problem. All of these spawn points are high up in mid air. There might be *one* spawn point that's near the crumbling floating ring of rock, if he was close enough to that you might be able to Beast Lore him. Second problem. He's only alive for a few seconds....literally. He despawns almost instantly, he just seems to be there as a 'Sorry, try next time.' placeholder instead of Aeonaxx spawning. It would be quite a feat to tame him if he is tameable, but it'll be just as difficult to figure out if he's even applicable.

I may have a go at some of these later myself. If the Pride of Bethekk is indeed a new ID, I can tell you 100% that it is tameable--the new kitties in ZG definitely are, and that is their name. Tis hunched black / red-eyed panther model, although you probably know that already

Edit--Wolf, Oraku's Pet, I'm pretty sure was untameable. He's summoned in the quest line, and I think I checked, and I don't even think his diet etc was listed--but I'm sure I have ss's SOMEWHERE and can go find out for sure.

The Curious Jungle Monkey is new for ZG 4.1 is it not? I thought they were the new tameables in there, the ones that hoot on click after taming, though I could be wrong.

Tanaris:

I cannot find any of the 5 creatures listed, either by name or NPC-Scan. The areas that the Wowhead maps show them in are in many cases flooded by water, so I assume that this is old data still being imported somehow, or taken from private servers that aren't up-to-date.

The Roc only has a few sightings. The others (scorpids + hyena) have tons, but I can't find a single one; their places have been taken, it would seem, by other types of scorpid and some wind elementals near the shore, and other types of scorpids & hyenas in the north/west.

Last night I started going through this list and adding all the ones that wowhead didn't have a location for to my NPC Scan. I will keep a lookout for them...now I'll get more heart attacks more often. I also noticed some of the links took me to an error page on wowhead saying they don't exist. I'm not done going through the list yet...I'll be doing that later today.

I did have a question though, is there a way to find out somethings NPC ID without an addon? So like on the PTR?

I can tell you immediately offhand that the Grizzled Black Bears (1188) and Black Bear Patriarchs (1189) are gone. Ursa's a Grizzled Black Bear, so I can definitely confirm that one. Will run out there to check the others, though.

All Definitely Removed from Loch Modan
Cliff Lurker (1184) - Buzzards, Bobcats, and the occasional croc in the south. No more tarantulas, with the exception of Shanda the Spinner.
Wood Lurker (1185) - Also completely gone. No spiders in the northeast part of the zone either, just brown bears and foxes.
Grizzled Black Bear (1188) - I already mentioned the ones in the east, but the ones in the west have turned into Black Bears.
Black Bear Patriarch (1189) - Mentioned above, the black bears on the east side of the Loch are completely gone, leaving only the new brown Hill Grizzlies behind.
Mountain Boar (1190) - These guys used to be in the west part of the zone. Unlike the tarantulas and black bears, who were consolidated into two named types near Thelsamar, the boars seem to have disappeared entirely.
Mangy Mountain Boar (1191) - No more boars in the south either. These guys are gone.
Elder Mountain Boar (1192) - These guys seem to have turned into the Mudbelly Boars.
Mountain Buzzard (1194) - The buzzards seem to have become the Golden Eagles.

I can confirm that Butcher *is* listed as tameable. .... however, he cannot be tamed. The only time he is actually in the location, he is friendly to everyone and there is no way to get 'at war' with him.

I've updated the lists. Added Acidmaw as well. Added a section on pets for the new ZG, and potential hunter starter pets (the ones in Wowhead all begin with "Young" but the ones that spawn in game just have generic names like "Bear", but I think they're the same). Fortunately so far most seem to be gone and there's only a few I'll have to add to Petopia.
