Hi everyone! I just tamed Terropene! Hardest tame I have ever done. I am just about to ding 84 with 63k heath points. He does almost constant 10k streaming fire damage. I died the first time at almost the last second of tame. My husband logged in his shaman and kept stealing healing aggro and dying. So I shot at him to gain aggro while my husband healed me, I cast lifeblood, deterrence, and started taming. Finally after the longest 7 secs ever, he was mine. Had about 5k health left at the end. He spawned at 1430 on Aggramar EU server at the southern tip of the lava pool. So nervewracking too as we died 4 times and each time had to wait longer to rezz. Luckily no other hunters were in the area. There was an 81 ally DK who flew in while I was eating after rezz, trying to be a complete jerk as he knew I was trying to tame him, deathgripped him and tried to kill him. He lasted about 2 secs before terropene roasted him alive. HAHA! Now to think of a good name for him Good luck everyone!!

I've used deterrence many times during tames. Used it on solo tames of King Krush and King Dred. As long as you have aggro, the tame is not cancelled. You can't target him while in deterrence of course, but in the middle of tame it's ok.

Funny story:
After 2 days and nights camping I fell a sleep, after half an hour I woke up and saw my NPC scan was active.. Rushed into my tame, which followed in my death (forgot to dismiss my corehound Chromaggus). Had my longest ride ever to the corpse, waited to get my health at 100%, took my potions and food, buffed up and tamed it again.

I can honestly say Deterrence is not canceled when you start he tame. very viable method of avoiding Terrorpenes burst.

mine spawned the in the eastern tip.

yeah as soon as I log on. I am currently trying to think of anew name for my Worgen Hunter.

Woot! Just tamed Terrorpene 20 mins ago, I remember telling myself precata launch that this would be the first thing I do on my alt hunter when Cata goes live

Information:
1. Spawned right in front of me on the south end of the Sulfuron Spire (possible north end spawn chance too?)
2. Camped for 6 hours since the last spawn
3. Tamable at 81 (without help)
4. 50058 is the NPC ID (for NPCScan Users)

I went a little overkill with my strategy since I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it at 81. I had full t10 with 2 Mount Hyjal quest upgrades, I decided to gem pure stam on my t10 set (since I had no gems on it, lol) with a 40stam bracer enchant and the haste battlemaster trinket for the extra haste and health.

Stats (unbuffed):
Health: 37125
Haste: 831 (19%)

I used a Prismatic Elixir (90FR), Drums of Forgotten Kings (52FR), Potion of Speed and +20FR cloak enchant giving me 162 FR total. Once Terrorpene spawned I used my Battlemaster trinket, Potion of Speed, Ancient Hysteria from my Core Hound pet which I dismissed shortly after followed by Tame Beast. My total cast time was 7 seconds and resistance to Terrorpene's Burning Hatred channel ability was 3000-5000 fire damage per tick (at 162 FR).

I just tamed him last night on Echo Isles. Funnily enough, thanks to you guys and the advice on these forums, taming him was the easy part (more on that later).

I showed up prepared with some mismatch fire-resist gear, an elixir of prismatic resistance potion (+90 to all resists), and a corehound. I'd left my hunter parked on a flying mount over the lake, and was checking back every 30-60 mins to see if he was up (and in the meantime, working on another character).

Finally, I logged in, saw him, and got so excited to see him and tame him that I dismounted... OVER THE LAVA. That's right, I fell into the friggin lava pool. I then spent the next 2 minutes floundering around in the lava like a moron trying to get out. I could see Terrorpene on my screen the whole time and was sure he was laughing at me, waiting for someone else to come along and tame him while I tried to get out.

The periodic damage from the lava interrupts your attempts to mount, so you have to time it just right to get airborne again. Needless to say, it was a massive exercise in stupidity but I was finally able to get out and back onto a rock.

From there... ancient hysteria, dismiss, tame, done.

STUPID LAVA!!!
