I didn't mean to sound like we shouldn't have rares at all. What I'm after is that if the developers decide to use a model/skin that is currently rare, there's no point in the whole "Boo common *insert name here*" attitude. The "rage" if you will.Slickrock wrote:So, why have rares at all?

And even if the mob itself isn't unique anymore, I will still know that I have the rare version and thus I will like my pet more because I went through the time and effort to get it. Also, quite frankly, generally no-one else gives a damn what some hunter has as a pet. (Especially other classes.) Which is the ONLY 'downside' a common counterpart will have. "Oh no, now that random passerby, who I probably never see or hear about again, doesn't know if my brown scorpid is a shiny or not!"
Also, even if your Terrorpenes were still rare, there is the chance of this following scenario happening. Let me tell a little story:
When I came back to WoW after cata was released I didn't play my hunter much yet. She was stuck somewhere at the lvl 70. Instead I played my druid and leveled her up to 85 and did tol barad and whatever. When I saw someone with a fiery turtle I thought Nemesis was tameable. I hadn't done any research on new pets/rares at that point because I wasn't sure if I was going to even level my hunter or not. So yeah: How many non-hunters do research on what is tameable and what is not?
