Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread

Recently hit 60 the other day on my Tauren, Excellion. First thing I did, well, was tame the Silithid Ravager (named him Shrapnel after one of the Insecticons, cons. Because it sounded good at the time, time.) Then I headed to the Crater and went for the first Devilsaur I saw. Personally, I think the rust red fits him best. Named him Advenger after the big train bot in the Yuusha series, Goldran. Figured he would be like that bot too...Hard crunchy chocolaty outside, chewy soft caramel inside.

I was in Tanaris the other day when one of the big dust storms started, and I thought it would make a cute screenshot of Skorn shielding Veph as they waited for it to blow past. ^^

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
I want to post a sexy screen shot of Guntitan with his Krush but Guntitan is a Male Dwarf Hunter and there is nothing sexy about that. The truth is that I haven't made a good enough screen shot. I will edit this post and add one when I get a chance. I can understand how hard it is to let Mosh or Krush go they are hard to tame. No freeze trap, crazy fear, and you got to hold aggro (Mosh). I will never let him go.
Now I am waiting for my Green Proto-Drake to hatch.

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
:3 I really love Devilsaurs too.
I had the Tyrant one on my old Hunter (level 76, final level though), and I loved her. I tamed her with a Hunter friend that nagged me to get one, since I told him I was having trouble finding a good pet to stick with after getting Beast Mastery (I think 3 days after) He wanted to find a black one for me, but we mostly ran into the whites, before finding a Tyrant.
xD It was fun taming her; Ipwndyou (yes, it's his name, male Troll on Burning Blade) tried to help me, but his pet bear kept getting aggro from trying to lay a frost trap in front of it, then all 3 of us would get feared around for a while, afterwards we FD'ed to reset the Tyrant. I was worried that someone may kill it, due to Un'goro was getting attacked again (on a PvP realm too. <.<') So I laid a frost trap and started the tame... but the Tyrant stayed just out of the trap for half of the tame, I thought I was going to die to it, before it tripped it, giant glacier. :3 Got it, and took a good look at her, before naming her Ridgevein - her back spines seemed to be red around them.
---------------
I am so getting another Devilsaur, maybe I'll get lucky and find a black one, but I'm not going to hope, since it's random in Un'Goro: what you want to tame is probably never there, or too far away to see. :p

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
Heya, I've been a lurker of this forum for a while now, so I finally got the courage up to finally make an account. Apologies if I seem nervous or anything, because, well, I am. ^_^;
I got King Krush a few hours ago and I absolutely adore him. I named him Teufel (which is German for devil) because of the whale of a time I had taming him (given how badly I botched the first try up, ack!) even with the help of my best friend's shaman, and I only have him now thanks to a nice priestess who came along and agreed to help. Funnest, craziest, hardest tame I've ever done in my life (makes Lord Lakmaeran seem like a cub!) but something I'm never doing again on any of my other hunters, so my future goblin hunter will end up getting an ironhide instead.
Teufel's personality has already begun to manifest even though I haven't even had him for a day. He's shy around large groups of people, though he'd never personally admit that, and he's already started developing a rivalry with Toph's raptor, Jet. He's usually quiet and quite serious, and he's a perfectionist when it comes to battling. If he's satisfied, he'll always toss his head and roar after he comes running back to Toph, but if he's not happy with himself, he'll stay quiet and stew over it.
I'm sorry I don't have any screenshots to share, but I don't have any good ones of Toph and Teufel posed together yet.

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
Been a dinosaur fanatic since I was a kid, fell in love with the devilsaur when I began playing WoW, and no one celebrated more than I did when they became tamable. Installed WotLK and the first thing I did was head to Ungoro and tame an Ironhide Devilsaur, and he's been my constant companion. Leveling, raids, some PvP, he goes everywhere with me.
I would be even more of a happy camper if Blizz made a Devilsaur variant model. And what better beastie to represent than the largest predatory land animal to ever exist:

If you have your heart set on the black one, head out to Netherstorm instead. You can snag Tyrantus, he's always there and much easier to findTratzul wrote: I am so getting another Devilsaur, maybe I'll get lucky and find a black one, but I'm not going to hope, since it's random in Un'Goro: what you want to tame is probably never there, or too far away to see. :p

Also welcome Toph, no need to feel nervous around us. We don't bite (much). Love your name scheme, I'm an Avatar fan too

I'm trying to see if someone can restore my old level 76 hunter, Wispquill. *hopes someone can* It may have been too long though. >.>' Wish I could transfer off the realm she's on too. Hate PvP realms, but Blizz doesn't let Paypal cover realm transfers. -.-
EDIT: My hunter's back. Really quickly too. o.O Cool. But Ridgevein's (Tyrant Devilsaur) gone. *goes to re-tame* If I can't find a Tyrant, I'll go for the next color I see.
Update: First Devilsaur I find; a Tyrant. Goofed up the first tame, got feared. Second time, she walked right into my trap. :3

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
I deleted the other post I made in this thread since it was a little off topic, and I feel really stupid for that (and since this made my other post too long when I tried to add this to it, I now feel silly for deleting my other post rather than editing it), but thank you for the welcome, VelkynKarma! I'm posting my taming tale because I want to share it with all of you and I'd meant to do that originally, but wasn't thinking straight due to how nervous I was when I originally made my first post. So, here it is for those of you who wish to read it. It's a bit spammy, so I apologize for that, but a lot happened in those five tries that I really want to share:
After hearing about the impending nerf to The Beast Within, I rushed to finish leveling Toph to 80 from 76 where she currently was so I could finally prepare to go get King Krush, because being the avid rare hunter I am, I'd wanted him ever since I first heard about him back when he was first implemented. I love devilsaurs, I also enjoy hard tames, and I am a huge fan of his shade of green.
My best friend and another friend of mine whom I've known for a few years outside of WoW both helped me to prepare for the tame while I did the quest chain in Icecrown for the Thorny Rose Brooch for the extra haste, then the search began, with my best friend helping me look whenever we were both on the game at the same time. On Saturday, I quite literally ran into Loque'Nahak at his spawn point by the bank of the river opposite of where Shango hangs out. I told my best friend, and she came over and we both sat there watching him, and I was talking about how I was thinking of how much I missed Sandstorm, Toph's retired Dishu, and had thought on and off about bringing her back as the spectral leopard skin. My best friend told me to do it while I had the chance, so now Toph has Sandstorm back as a spirit beast, and getting a pet I realized I'd really wanted all along really perked me up from being down from seeing a tauren hunter who had Krush in Dalaran earlier that day.
Yesterday, we had been searching since the wee hours of the morning, and I was starting to get discouraged again, then my best friend told me she saw Loque'Nahak down by the gorillas. I told her I was heading down to watch him walk around in hopes that it would cheer me up, she said okay and that she'd take over the two spawn points in the northern part of the Basin. I was flying to where she saw Loque when then all the sudden, my best friend started going "HERE HERE", and it took a minute for my brain to register that, after five days of searching, Krush had finally, finally shown himself, so I quickly checked the map to see where my best friend was, and changed directions and flew to the Maker's Perch. My heart was thudding hard when I got there and I was trembling badly since I'd never seen the King of the Basin before this, and neither of us could type that well (we don't use voice chat) because we were both so nervous. I'd accidentally ended up leveling the temp croc I had to 80 by spending time skinning leather for my boyfriend's own hunter's leatherworking, so I'd decided to level my actual pets and had my vargul blighthound, Trailblaze, with me at the time Krush finally decided to show so I had to quickly stable her and get the croc out while my best friend cleared the area while trying to keep from aggroing Krush as he just slowly ambled along wondering what the heck two silly Horde were doing so close to him.
First attempt: I'm not a fan of macros, so I didn't have any set up for the tame, and man oh man, even though I went through it over and over again in my heard as my personal mantra while were were searching for Krush, I botched up the activate brooch/chug speed potion/hit Bestial Wrath/abandon temp pet/hit Tame Beast sequence of my first attempt so badly that I nearly killed him trying to abandon the croc I had because I was so out of it, so I had to scramble to put the croc on passive and to stop shooting because I'd forgotten about that. I finally abandoned the croc, asked for Bloodlust, activated Bestial Wrath as he came stomping towards me and hit Tame Beast. I'd forgotten to chug a speed potion and to use the brooch I had! Not even halfway through, he used Terrifying Roar, and my best friend's shaman and Toph both went running. I hit Feign Death, waited a few seconds, get back up, then mounted up and flew up into the air above the chaos. I told her to fly away so he could heal back up once she lost his aggro, but she was too busy trying to keep from getting chewed up and spat back out. You don't know how grateful I was for the fact that she and I were the only two Horde in the Basin at that time.
Second attempt: I had to go backtrack for another pet to tame, and ended up grabbing a rhino. By this time, Krush was near the river, and even though I'd remembered to activate my brooch and to chug a speed potion, I didn't realize that Bloodlust had a friggin' debuff where you can't be affected by it again for a certain amount of time, so I ended up rather stupidly jumping the gun even though I'd done the sequence much more smoothly this time despite still being really out of it and barely able to type. I ended up being feared immediately as The Beast Within ended, so I hit Feign Death again, waited a few seconds, and flew up on my wyvern again while my best friend jumped in the river to get away from Krush. He ended up glitching for a few seconds and ended up going through the ground to his shoulders as he crossed the river, so my best friend and I both hovered there going O_o at him while waiting for things to cool down and trying (and failing) to regain at least some of our bearings.
Third attempt: I checked the who list for the zone again, and the only other person there was another hunter. My first thought was 'Crap, got to get this done...' and after grabbing Shango, I tried again, managing to not jump the gun like I'd done previously. He feared me again as soon as The Beast Within wore off, and I was starting to give up hope of ever succeeding since we didn't have a priest. I don't remember if anything else happened this time, since it all happened so quickly for me.
Fourth attempt: Oh man, this attempt I will never forget because of how ridiculous the outcome was, and King Krush now knows that I have a very dirty mouth when things go wrong (hence why I never use voice chat). I grabbed Shango again, and we waited for the Bloodlust debuff to go away as we watched Krush turn around and start heading back down the path as we again tried and failed to regain at least a bit more than what was left of our sanity. We finally landed near him, my best friend set down her totems as was the routine, I sent Shango No. 2 in, built up a bit of aggro, went through my sequence and hit tame. I had to shut my eyes for a few seconds in hopes of calming down, and when I opened them again, Toph was still working on taming him even though The Beast Within had ended, and since the bar was down to its few final seconds, I started going "Oh man, yes... YesyesyesyesNO! Mother *insert a long string of colorful sailor talk here*!" because right when the tame ended Krush used Terrifying Roar, so the tame didn't click.
Final attempt: By now, my patience was next to nil, and my paranoia of somebody coming along and killing him was through the roof. I went and grabbed Shango yet again, and refreshed the who list for Sholazar, and my jaw dropped when I saw a certain class in white text I'd been praying would show up. I told my best friend that a priest was in the area, and asked her to ask for their help even though I knew that by doing so, we were taking a giant gamble. Time was going by way too slowly for my liking by now, so I was starting to get impatient, and began thinking the priest had declined when she joined our group. She helped us to clear the area around where Krush currently was, and when she said she needed him for Frostbitten, I started getting nervous, but when she did nothing, I calmed again though slightly. I took a bit longer this time, rather than crazily jumping in like I'd done the last four times, because I didn't want to come across as looking like an idiot and because the Bloodlust debuff hadn't worn off yet. Once it did, my best friend set her totems down, and I sent Shango No. 3 in. After I chugged my fourth speed potion, activated my brooch, hit Bestial Wrath and abandoned Shango, I asked for Bloodlust and for Fear Ward as coherently as I could type them, took a deep breath and prayed. When the tame ended and Krush was surrounded by that wonderful golden light, I shouted "YES!" then stared dumbly when he suddenly shot off to go help my best friend fight off the rhino that'd been beating on her that entire time. After he came trotting back to my side, the first thing I did was hug him before I got enough of my bearings back to remember to feed him.
I'm always going to be forever grateful that the stars chose to align in my favor by bringing in the nice priestess who ended up making 1000 gold that morning and I'm also extremely grateful for the existence of Earth Shield and Wind Shear, without them, Toph would've had a much harder time than she already did and during that entire time, I'd forgotten to reapply the scroll I'd used at the beginning, but it turns out, I didn't really need it, since the elixer and imperial manta steak I'd used at the beginning, along with my best friend's awesome healing skills, were more than enough to keep us both from dying during those four fails. I ended up losing my voice from all the shouting I did, but after all that pandemonium, getting this guy is so totally worth it all. I now look back on it and end up laughing about how crazy it was.
Zethira, Wildmane, and Tylendryl: I dunno if you guys read these forums, but I couldn't have tamed Krush without your help, thank you again!

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
I've always loved me some devilsaurs, they're such awesome looking pets and so fun to run arround with. But I haven't really had one as a permanent pet... Up until now. I've been thinking of picking one up, specifically a certain large green fellow often seen wondering the basin. I've alwasy liked King Krush, but seeing my friend trying to tame him and failing for over a year now, I've kind of not had the courage to take up the hunt myself. But as cataclysm is closing in (and taming him will become much harder then >.>) I think I'd love to finally place him in my stables.
So, wish me luck! I'm camping by the Glimmering Pillar at the moment, circling around the rest of the basin every so often, hoping that when I do spot him I'll be able to sucessfully solo tame him.

Re: Devilsaur Appreciation Thread
This thread reminded me of how much I love Cuddles, my King Krush. He is my big love-able baby, and like most others he is very protective of me and my husband but a big goof when danger isn't around. I have an addon called ScrapBook, basically it forces a screenshot every 10 minutes so I don't have to remember to do it myself during battles and after reading this thread I wanted to look back and see if there were any screenshots I could share of Cuddles and I found a few good ones that were actually taken tonight.
For the last few weeks I have been raiding Survi for the replenish buff and to help put out the dps we needed to get to Lich King and every week I would walk in to ICC with a different wolf by my side, since none of them really clicked. It got to the point where my guild started taking bets on what kind I would walk in with next. Last week it was with my newly hit 80 Oil-Covered wolf named Voidwalker. I love Voidy (as my husband so proudly calls him lol.) and have used him in everything, but when I took him into arena for the first time on Sunday, I nearly cried when I realized he wasn't black as the nether and that the buff was gone, for good. My husband then set out this morning and tamed a new one for me, but since tonight was our "Kill Lich King for the first time" night I wasn't going to be able to level Voidy in time. So my next best solution was to switch specs and bring the guild's mascot, Cuddles the Wonder Dino!
Starting out on our first attempt, my husband (Triangle) is explaining the fight and how we're going to do it when ScrapBook goes off. I'm not really paying attention to it at the time, but looking at the screenshot now, it appears Cuddles is paying more attention then I am.

"So if I get poisioned, I run to Daddy, right?"
After a few attempts and a few wipes we finally get the hang of the fight and are going to beat the Lich King when ScarpBook goes off again, catching Cuddles saving our tree, Gretchy from a Val'kyr.

"Oh no you don't!"
After we get LK down we run to Dal with our new titles and take a few screenshots together, poor Cuddles had to stand off to the side, but he didn't seem to mind.

(Top left to right: Mezzy, Me and Gretchy. Bottom left to right: Jefethewise, Deadnation, Kirtar, Eroll, Kaedrunmar, Jésûs and Ladoir.)
Tonight made me realize how much I miss him and I decided to start doing heroic 10 man ICC as BM next week and bringing Cuddles along. Also I think pets should get titles, Cuddles helped in the kill, he needs to be a Kingslayer too!

Best of luck to both you and your friend (if they're still trying that is)! This beauty is very worth all the trouble of having to gather stuff in preparation for taming him, and how long it may take actually finding him once you're ready. I advise getting as much Haste/Stamina as you can because of how hard he hits and to make the tame time shorter, but that's all I can really advise since I had help when I got him, sorry.Moonlost wrote:I've always loved me some devilsaurs, they're such awesome looking pets and so fun to run arround with.
