So, I've been camping (casually) for TLPD, pretty much just logging over now and then to check spawn points, doing laps, and if I'm logging on to chat to someone (or whatever) I'll sit there and see if it spawns. I've had reasonable success so far - seen a few Vyras and a few Skolls, so I must be on the right track.
Today I found a Skoll again (you can guess what's going to happen) so I landed, tagged, trapped and found a hunter who wanted him. Hunter was on his way. I pulled Skoll behind some trees to keep him "hidden". Hunter was almost there when a Horde swoops down, tagged, two shots Skoll, and then pulls out his own Skoll.
I /sigh at him, tell the other hunter a Horde had killed Skoll, and pop over to my baby hunter and whisper the guy who killed Skoll. I said something along the lines of "That was silly, I had him tagged for another hunter to come and tame him, as I already had him". Dude said something like "You're a night elf". I inform him that he might do better off on a PVP server, as on a PVE server that's arguably reportable for griefing. I told him that it was a silly waste because all I got was some worthless blue, and all he got was the knowledge that he killed someone else's spawn (if it's tagged I do consider it their spawn, lol) to bother someone who isn't really bothered as they already have the tame. He said he wanted a Horde to get it, not an Alliance. To that I replied that we were all people behind the computer screen, and that if a horde had come wanting to tame it I would have happily FD'd and been on my way (I actually FD'd when he landed, thinking he wanted to tame it). He said that he didn't want it. I said that neither did I, but other people did - and isn't it a pity that instead of making multiple people happy, he killed the mob and just put everyone's camp back a notch for no reason and to no result.
He was obviously a little kid home from school with a selfish "but I don't want it" mentality. This is also a PVE server, making the whole thing even stupider. I've never really had the pleasure of experiencing this sort of thing before, but the logic behind it seriously stops me in my tracks. xD
I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but it bothers me how little point there was to the whole action - I can guarantee that the guy who killed Skoll isn't happy (I think I squashed any of his "lol that nelf is going to be crying!!!" ideas with the way I talked to him), the hunter who I talked to was disappointed, and I was just "oh god, it's a kid" about the idiot who killed Skoll. Alternatively, we could have had a very happy hunter with a new pet, and I would have logged to my baby hunter to say thank you and perhaps even made a new friend/rare hunting buddy.
Silly guy. Maybe next time he'll think twice about it - but I doubt it.

Gah I realy hate people like that, but I mean theres not much you can do. I wont lie I sometimes want to go to a PVP server just so I can kill the guy if hes opposite faction before he kills the pet im holding for someone. Or if he does kill it play "Personel Assasin" for an hour. Yha its petty but I am an ass like that

Erf, yeah it sucks when it happens. But it's good of you to try and rehome him! I've given up on rehoming Skoll after the last hunter I found was all excited to tame it, so I waited for him to fly out, at which point he pulled out his core hound and proceeded to kill poor him, then had the nerve to whine that he didn't get an achievement for him.
It's kind of ridiculous, all told.

Wow, that sucks e_e
Hopefully I'll find the next Skoll either when a guildie/friend is on or when my alt is 80. I have to admit it bothers me when I find rares and don't "know" anyone to give it to, but I've already made a couple of people pretty happy.
I did end up writing a ticket... I don't have much of a grudge against the guy, but he's obviously got a PVP mindset on a PVE server, and he was certainly the sort to do it again; I like to think my reasoning behind it was pretty sound and all he could do was parrot "ur alliance"-type excuses. (I mean, Skoll is bad enough but imagine a Karoma/Sambas/Madexx situation.) If nothing happens nothing happens, but at least it might be a strike on his record and next time he does something he might get a warning and decide it's got to stop.

That's *exactly* what happened to me on my TLPD camp. The idiot who did it to me proceeded to follow me for quite awhile spamming emotes and "BUR" (LOL), so I felt quite justified in the harassment ticket I wrote up. Hopefully your guy, like mine, will at least get some kind of a "can you stop being an ass?" from a GM
Oh well, some folks are just immature--and I believe in karma, too
Good luck with your TLPD, and hopefully the hunter you were holding Skoll for gets him eventually, too.

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
Thank you < 3 That's all I want really, because yeah, Alli/Horde hate is fine, but if you're insistent on it you'd be better off on a PVP server, or even a PVP RP server... because the majority of people who choose PVE servers just want to enjoy the game without the hardcore faction rage side of things. That's how I see it, anyway.
Happily I logged back on my main to find Vyragosa dead (phew), which means I have a spawn time
So a 6 hour break came at a pretty good time I think lol.

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
I hate to say this, but a lot of people have seen Vyra/TLPD within a very short span since the spawn timers were changed with 4.0. That said, when I did my camp, the Vyra spawns were all nearly 6 hours apart--and then there were 2 points when there was just -nothing- for over 12 hours. Both of those times, TLPD spawned next, if that helps!
Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
Thanks!
Yeah, I'm fine with a longer camp for TLPD because I got Aeonaxx ... within an incredibly short amount of time. So a longer TLPD camp would make up for it. xP But I'll be checking back in 6 hours or so. Pretty determined not to string myself out over it. I'll get it eventually

Some players take the Alliance/Horde rivalry too far. It’s a game people go to Azeroth to escape from the world, not to have others take out their anger on toon that's not your "fraction". Some people just get way too into the game and forget that there is a living person behind each hunter.

Two people have done this to me, killed Skoll while I had him tagged and waited on a hunter. Both were hordes (I'm sorry all)
I usualy login on my belf, call them something, and log out. Yeah, not very mature, but I seriously ENRAGE when that happens. so sanity isn't my first choise there...
Oh well, atleast you will see Skoll 230497 more times before you see TLPD (guaranteed -_-) and your buddy will get him eventually. Best of luck!

I'm sorry about that, it's not nice. I'm so innocent and naive "oo look a hunter! oh he shot it he must want tame aggro..wtf its dead"
Thanks for the luck on TLPD. Hopefully one of those times my alt will be high enough to grab him and I can be done with SP

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
I'm sorry this happened to you.
It's not happened to me personally, but I've read enough horror stories that I get tense when anybody else shows up when I'm looking for a rare.
IME, faction doesn't matter - I'm Horde, but I've helped/been helped by kind Alliance folk, and there have been a few times I would have gladly killed my own faction were it allowed.

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
Happened to come across a Sambas with a an Ally Shaman nearby when I was leveling Nimhar (my goblin Challenge). I immediately decided that it'd probably be good if I kept it alive, since either they were guarding it for a hunter or potentially about to kill it themselves, and launched a freeze trap to tag *and* pin. The shaman proceeded to slaughter it, then hop over to a Horde level 1 to be able to whisper me.
"I was holding it for a hunter friend, but I thought you were going to tame it."
"Dude. I'm level 84. Do the math."
"Then why were you trapping it?"
"Because I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't be killed by someone else."
"I was holding it for a friend for hours!"
"Then I pity your friend, since now he has to wait for the next spawn."
They shut up after that.
Honestly, I'd happily have let the friend tame. After all, that's what Feign Death is for! Really wish I'd known who the friend was so I could whisper them on my Alliance hunter, apologizing for the rampant stupidity of their friend.

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
"Holding" a rare for another hunter via tagging is a well meaning but often ill fated endeavor, because a lot of people regard it as passive aggressive control behavior and to them killing it is a way of saying "no you don't" - childish yes, but unfortunately part of human nature for many, so if you're going to do this, just be aware you are rolling the dice and hoping everyone who comes by will be understanding...

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
Very true, Worba.
It's so silly. It's logic (imo) to tag and hold the rare when you have someone ready and willing to come by and tame it - if it's tagged, potential killers would get no loot. It's a pity people don't see it that way and have to jump about like scalded fleas and do their best to spite someone else for no reason. I guess it's a lose/lose either way. There's just as good a chance you'll find someone who wants to kill the shiny rare as you'll find someone who decides to read psychobabble into your actions and kill the rare because of it. xD
At least this forum understands! *grin*
It's a pity it happens so often. DX

Yeah, I had this happen to me a few times. Terrorpene and a common shale spider. Both were Horde and one was Alliance (Same faction wtf). People are dumb/rude/spiteful at times.

I actually had this happen to me. I had been looking for the Blue Madexx on Jolyroger, my main. Finally found him, dropped down and started to tame. Was about half way thru the tame when an Alliance Warrior showed up. He hovered for a second or two, then dropped down, and killed Madexx just before my tame would have finished. It was really close. I was so pissed I reported him for harassment. There was no excuse for what he did.
Luckily about a week later I did get my Blue Madexx.
I just don't get the mentality of some of the I D 10 T players out there.
I still think they should make it so when the beast has the "Tame" debuff on it, it should be unattackable. This would solve most of those issues. But still not when you are trying to hold for someone.

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
Yes. Give tame beast a 10 second "lockout" debuff that makes it unattackable during that time, as if it were already your pet or your party member - BUT also give that effect say a 20-30 second CD (e.g. tame beast can be recast as needed, but doing so won't simultaneously trigger the "lockout" debuff if same is still on CD), so hunters trying to tame it for themself can do so without being griefed - for one attempt, but they can't use it for griefing or to hold it for their friend coming over from Stormwind, e.g. every subscriber is "first come = first served", and no "place saved".Jolyroger wrote:I still think they should make it so when the beast has the "Tame" debuff on it, it should be unattackable. I'd sign onto that.

Re: I still didn't believe people actually do it @w@
I honestly don’t get how anyone can get so caught up in the game that they would do that just because you are not the same faction. (Or just beacuse they dont want you to have that pet) I started playing when I was 14 and NEVER had that view on the Horde players.
I often go out of my way to help the Horde. Saving low levels and helping them kill an elite for a quest, resetting the hellfire towers or even logging onto an alt to see if anyone in Netherstorm wants the Nuramoc. Like you said, in the end we are all still humans behind that screen. I hate it when someone ruins a good deed just because he or she doesn’t want anyone else to have “that pet.” They don’t have the right to choose who does and doesn’t get something like that. Personally I try to leave a positive memory with those I come in contact with so they know that not all the horde/ally are out to get them. I actually met most of my friends by helping/saving their horde lol xD
Better luck getting Skoll a home next time. I makes me so mad when someone kills a pet just beacuse they can =/
