Your Favorite Mount?

As the title asks What is your favorite mount, and why? Did you work hard to get it, or was it luck? Was it love at first sight / must have, or did you get it just to have it and then fall in love?

For me, of all the mounts I have (TLPD and Twilight Drake among them), my absolute favorite is the Black Drake. I love the lore behind the black dragonflight, and paid a good amount of gold to a bunch of folks in /2 to get this fellow before WotLK ended. There's just something beautiful about it. The contrast of colors, the darkness, it just fits me Oh, and it's just win flying into the Dragonmaw camp for the first time, and having the npcs say "LET US SEE IF YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO FLY UPON A BLACK DRAKE." Um, guys?? Doing the black dragonflight-oriented quest line in Twilight Highlands atop a black drake was pretty cool, too

So, what are your favorites, mount-hunters?

I like to RP a little with my characters, and almost all my alts have mounts they absolutely love as a result.

Cerah, lvl 85 Orc Hunter.
Favourite Mount: Cerah met Saligos, a young Blue Drake, after a run through the Occulus, insisting that the Red Dragonflight heal the injured dragon. After his recovery, he insisted on helping the hunter who saved his life through her journeys in Northrend. While confined to the ground, Cerah's loyal raptor pet Beauty dons armour and the Swift Purple Raptor helps her friend in more than just combat.

Emielee, lvl 84 Forsaken Warlock
Favourite Mount: Nazgul, her Felsteed. She prefers her flying carpets for air travel, esp. her Frosty Flying Carpet.

Taysha, lvl 82 Troll Mage (technically half Troll, half Orc)
Favourite Mount: When Taysha first crossed through the Dark Portal, she was greeted by a Green Windrider on the other side. Apparently, he had flown with her mother, Cerah, through her Outland adventures, and now wanted to do the same with her daughter.

Bessey, lvl 77 Tauren Druid:
Favourite Mount: Her Swift White Kodo. Bessey normally prefers to not bother other animals, and uses her cheetah and bird forms for travel, but for long journeys she likes having the company of her Kodo friend.

Lighthope, lvl 72 Blood Elf Paladin:
Favourite Mount: Spirit, her Blood Knight Charger, and Swift Wind, the Sparkle Pony

Meggera, lvl 71 Orc Death Knight.
Favourite Mounts: Her Skeletal Warhorses, and Hetake, her Skeletal Gryphon

Lydeea, lvl 52 Forsaken Hunter.
Favourite Mount: Emielee's adopted daughter loves one of her "mother's" gifts after starting her service to the Dark Lady, her Blue Skeletal Horse, Wraith.

Fateflare, lvl 44 Blood Elf Rogue.
Favourite Mount: Lighthope's half-Amani Troll, half Blood Elf son rarely embraces his heritage, but he does love his Swift Orange Raptor, Flicker (named after my first Charmander).

Trixzie, lvl 25 Goblin Shaman
Favourite Mount: "BR8KDWN", is what she calls her Goblin Trike -- with good reason. Good thing Trixzie's an engineer.

Toeph, lvl 32 Tauren Hunter
Favourite Mount: What better companion is there to Toeph's explorations of the Earth Mother's realm than Appa, her white Kodo. If only he could fly...

Leata, lvl 30 Dwarf Hunter
Favourite Mount: While exploring archeological ruins, Dodge the Grey Ram makes for a loyal companion, and a handy getaway when the locals haven't quite left the ruins yet.

Soffi, lvl 23 Draenei Paladin
Favourite Mount: After standing too close to the Naaru in the Exodar, Soffi's Alliance Paladin Warhorse, Purity, somehow changed into a sparkly Celestial Steed (that's my way of explaining it, and I'm sticking by it! I hate the Vindicator's Elekk).

Cielle, lvl 35 Night Elf Priest:
Favourite Mounts: Her Dawnsaber and Nightsaber help Cielle balance the forces of Elune's holy and shadow forms in her priestly training.

Mm, well, my main's favorite mount is her Drake of West Wind. I adore him. Unfortunately I can't think of a real backstory for him, as I don't know the lore behind Wind Dragons. X.x
I know Brakara is *going* to get a green Windrider, one of the sons of Heartrazor, the Wyvern Patriarch of Thousand Needles. She really respected that wyvern.
And Braka also has a brown wolf named Goshlok that I really love, though there's very little story behind him. She just got the money to buy one is all.

As I delved into the deep fire of Onyxia's lair busting through The Broodmother's guards trying to get to the Queen herself. As I reached her at the end of the hot sweltering cavern I could feel as if she knew I was there. I fought bravely and managed to take down the beast. Ending her reign on Dustwallow Marsh. As i was leaving her roost in the corner of her nest there was a glow of eyes, I approached and found a young dragon, I tried to woo the beast with food in my pack but she wouldn't have it. She attacked and knocked my axe out of my hand, scrambling to reach it, trying to beat her before she sends a burst of fire that would end me right then. I grabbed my axe and swung it hard against the beast, she fell to the floor out cold. I stood over her axe raised to end her life and realized, that she looked identical to Onyxia herself. I lowered my axe and sat by her until she woke, startled to see that I was sitting there next to her with some food for her to eat, she ate the food I gave her and I began to talk to her. She told me that her name was Obsidia, Onyxia's only daughter. I asked her what she would do now that her mother was gone, she always dreamed of leaving the roost and wanted adventure. I offered freedom and promise of many battles, describing the recent battles that I had encountered on my many adventures. Obsidia seemed very excited and agreed to join me as my companion to fight many enemies. She has been my faithful companion since, and now she is back at her birthplace, where her mother once reigned.

The Broodmother's daughter has returned to her birthplace.

My favourite is the Twilight Drake that my current main (my Shaman, Steampunk) has.

I also like to RP a bit with my mounts and have a backstory:

Asperiona hates her life. Shot down during an assault on Hyjal, found in the woods near death by a meddling Goblin Shaman. "Why didn't he let me die?" she often asks herself. He tended her wounds, KNOWING she was the enemy, that she fully intended to burn Hyjal to the ground. He healed her, he caught wild animals for her to eat, he never strayed too far from her side, KNOWING she would never have shown him such mercy, aside from a possibly quick death. She owes him a life debt now. Now she is branded a traitor; she'll never have the fear and respect that she had grown accustomed to. No, now her life is as companion to this unshakably upbeat and optimistic Shaman, and if she really, REALLY, had to admit it, life wasn't SO bad now. Afterall, she gets to spend her downtime in the guise of a blood elf haggling for magical wares with the Orcs of Orgrimmar, and that beats the whip of a Twilight Cultist anyday.

I have a favorite ground mount and a favorite flying mount. :3

My favorite ground mount is the maroon-ish worg.



I don't know why I like him so much. Something about us is just RIGHT, you know? I imagine him being the ever-loyal worg that my orc raised and travels with. He's my mount, my hunting buddy and my cuddle buddy.

My favorite flying mount is actually the green netherdrake. I remember seeing a *few* people with it and going "Ew, gross. It's like boogers." When I fiiiiinally got exalted, I went to choose my very first drake. Gahhh! I was so excited. I looked at them all and spent a long time deciding.



After looking over them all for what seemed forever, I went back to the green netherdrake and looked him over. I admit, when I was trying to choose I skipped over him, thinking I didn't like him at all. Something weird happened and I felt like we belonged together. He was my first netherdrake and I use him a LOT. I have a random mount macro and would cycle through it til I got to him. Eventually I left him out and have him by himself so I can use him whenever I want, lol. So here we are together. I think we look great together and I don't see too many people with him. Hopefully other people appreciate how gorgeous this mount really is. And, if not, he'll always be my favorite.

The green netherdrake was my first choice as well. I eventually fell in love with the azure drake and moved over to him, though.

My favorite ground mount is everyone and their brother's favorite ground mount:


I'll be honest, I don't really like him all that much. I farmed for him for months and then realized I use my flying mount for everything. I use him on Tol Barad, but that's about it. I don't have a favorite ground mount...yet. I might in a few hours, and when I do I'll change this. :P

My favorite flying mount is really, really obvious:


I spent days farming rep for Killinger here, to the point where she had a name and I was drawing her before I bought her. Every ear, every armament was fueled by the thought of having her. And when I finally dropped all of my gold to buy her and walked away with 15g in my pocket, that was the happiest this game has ever made me. I haven't ridden anything as much since. I just love absolutely everything about the model. The colors, the personality - I don't care if hippogryphs are traditionally Night Elf mounts, they'll have to pry Killinger's reins from my cold, dead hands.

Roleplay wise she was bought with cold hard cash the old-fashioned way - no destined meeting, no rite of passage or rescuing her from an evil owner. Killinger has racing blood in her somewhere - she's bred for speed and endurance, and she's still fairly young and has a lot of...erm, kick to her, which Veeka was not expecting. She was looking for a calmer mount who could help her carry groceries back and forth and serve as a steady companion, since her talbuk is getting older and can't do as much. Veeka tries to keep her stabled in Bilgewater when they're not out exploring, but she's got the whole world to explore and no silly gate(or lock, or guard, or camera, or wall) is going to stop her. Though I'm not sure what hippogryphs traditionally are, Killinger is either a picky carnivore or a die-hard omnivore - her favorite treat is fingers, if you let her get close enough. :P

The mount that I'm most excited about this expansion is the Qiraji Battle Tank. I'm having a hard time staying motivated though, and seem to be stuck at 17/20 Professor.

As for mine? well, I can't write anything actually good at the moment (as I'm in a rush) so I'll write my answers a bit later today!

Here's some pics of some of my toons and their favourite mounts:



Cerah and Saligos. Here, we're taking advantage of a water-walking glitch outside Coilfang Resivoir. Kind of sucks that this is the most dramatic pic I have of him, but I guess it shows that he's a constant adventuring companion to Cerah.

RP-wise, Saligos sometimes likes to use his humanoid form to wander around Org -- a Troll. Something that annoys Cerah's husband, Seabaston (a real Troll) to no end.



Leata and Dodge visit Theramore, on their way to tame pets and annoy Orcs in Durotar.



Meggera and one of her Skeletal Horses. She earned them the hard way, doing pretty much every Forsaken quest she could find, including the baby quests in Deathknell. This is the green one -- I was thinking this one could be Pestilance, the Orchre one Famine, and the Purple War. Death will be either the Red, White, or Rivendare's Charger, whatever I get first.



Soffi, and her Alliance Paladin Warhorse, Purity. The reason I first made Soffi was because I wanted this cool horse, and didn't want a human or dwarf pally. I really wish they hadn't changed them into Elekks, I mean, any Draenei can have an Elekk. You don't see Orc Warlocks forced to ride a demonic wolf, now, do you? (I'd better not give Blizz any ideas there).



Emielee and Nazgul, back when she first got him (when you needed level 30 for riding training). I can't tell you how happy I was when lvl 20 mounts were made to scale up in speed! I never really liked the Dreadsteed -- too spikey. I should have taken some screenies of riding around Dal on Nazgul once the change was made. I got quite a few whispers that day!

Wow, I would LOVE an Onyxian drake. They're the only "dragon" mount with a truly draconic face/head, imo. I love them. I'd loev to be able to get an unarmored "black" skeletal drake--like the ones just inside Icecrown from Crystalsong. As much as I adore and would totally use a skeletal drake mount, I think the head armor takes away a lot of its personality.

Those snapshots are great, Cerah--I'm a big fan of orcs on ponies, especially skeletal ones!

And Nubhorns, I'm totally with ya on hippogryphs. LOVE them, *especially* since those fantasic idle animations were introduced. Whoever did those animations is just brilliant imo--they are SO realistic and gorgeous!

Ask anyone on the RP forums here and you'll know, hands down, who Azu's favorite mount is. He stars in my siggy!

Kozridormu the bronze dragon. Way back in WotLK, everyone had one but me. All my attempts crashed and burned. Finally, I poked my guild and said, "Hey. Can we do a dragon run for me?" and I got the people I need. In, out, and my dragon dropped. Riding him doing dailies, I asked for a name and someone throw out Kozridormu. I thought that name was awesome, and it stuck. Kozri's been Azu's steadfast companion. Rides him everywhere.

ICly, Kozri was rescued from the claws of the Infinite when he was on a scouting mission for his Flight. When they killed his older companions and left the young drake to be corrupted, Azu was sent to get him out. From there, Kozri swore to keep Azu safe, no matter the cost.

Firewing, my hunter, loves her red drake mount, Talastrasz. Fire is a Champion of Wyrmrest, and on a mission, she and Tal were shot down by the blues. Pure determination got them out of that situation, and Tal promised to stick by Fire, and she likewise.

Beyond that, she has Snowfire, her armored white gryphon. Way back when he was a plain old white gryphon, he was a shy bird who loathed doing daring maneuvers. Fire of course would make him practice anyways.

Brakara has one mount she loves... But I *plan* on getting two more mounts. First being a nice green wyvern. Green, because she really respects Heartrazor, the green Wyvern Patriarch of Thousand Needles. She's going to tame one of his sons. ^.^ ((EDIT I mentioned that before. Derp. I'm tired!))

When she gets the rep, though, she's gunna get herself a Red Drake. Why? She has Rhea's Child, which I named Rutilustrasz. He's adorable and I simply must let him "grow up" into a mount.

Absolute positive drop dead sexy/handsome/wicked/epic/awesome mounts for me would be pretty much all the ones i dont own-- except two QQ. I rolled a 3 on my first and so far only attempt for the Twilight Drake which is my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME EVER mount (the winner rolled a 97!!!!!!!!!!!!).

I only have 3 acheivments out of however many are needed for Iron-Bound Protodrake cause someone tore the entire raid apart on XT TT_TT. Blue proto-drake as well. I want that damned drake lol i love the colors!!!!! Anzu the Raven God who i have yet to challenge, and the not-yet-released Winged Guardian which i think is absolutely killer (not as good as Twilight Drake though >.> <.<).

Mounts i do own that i love, Talbuks. Talbuks are freaking FURRY ANTELOPES lol i love them (i have them on two chars)!!! And Onyx as well as Azure Netherdrakes (also farmed on two chars). Omg. Lol Netherdrakes were the greatest dragons ive ever seen till the Twilight Drake was released and its my next-best thing to the Twilight Drake.

I love my ruby drake Reniaktraz and my green proto-drake Emeralis, I have macros for skritching both of them. For ground mounts it's usually the silver riding talbuk or my black war bear, although my timber wolf is running a really close third lately.
