To PvP for mounts or not to PvP for mounts?

Unread post by Bulletdance »

Hi I'm working on the 100 mounts achieve. I have 93 so far and only one of the pvp mounts. I know in the next patch u can buy the mounts for honor and not tokens which may be a great help since I despise the capture the flag bg. But I'm wondering what would be faster? If I did try for the tokens now or just wait til the patch and get them for honor? Ant thoughts on the matter?

I would say just do some of the battlegrounds here and there (don't grind it or you'll become sick of it pretty quickly [or at least I do]), and see how many badges you end up with. I wouldn't say to just go all-out and try to get all the PvP mounts as fast as possible, but even one or two more would be that much less work you have to do come patch time. And, you're horde, so you might win more than lose. ;) (that's how my Battlegroup goes, anyway, lol)

Do you have any tokens from PVP already? If you have some, go for it! Spend those! Also, if you have 50+, make sure to get the ram as well.

One thing to bare in mind is that Blizzard is taking out BG marks next patch, so my guess is the mounts will cost honor instead of marks. :3

They will however also provide us with some way to turn marks into honor. A GM confirmed it for me.

Well, you could wait till Marks are removed and see how it goes from there, but then there is still cost to consider. As far as I know, we have no idea exactly how much honor the mounts are going to cost. If it's easy for you to get honor, that won't be a problem, but if it takes you a while to save out those points, working on the Marks now may be better. It all depends on how you play really.

For instance, I ground all the Marks I would need, expect the AVones, to get all the mounts before I hit 80. I'm working on the AV Marks now. So, since I already got the Marks, I decided to use them, so I could spend my honor on gems/gear rather then mounts later.

I read somewhere (most likely on wow.com) that the current token to honour conversion is 2000 honour/token. With that conversion, I'd say to go grab some tokens before the patch. It'll be an extra 2-6k honour per BG. Of course, they may very well change the amount, but considering that the WG marks convert into 2k, the number makes a lot of sense. :)

I wouldn't buy the mounts until after the patch though, because by doing it this way you can stock up on tokens from your preferred BG instead of going for x amount from x BG. You'll have more fun if you don't have to grind out 90 WSG, yannowhaddimean?

Hmm thanks everyone. I have enough marks except for two of the bg's on of which i hate with a passion lol I think I'll spread it out. Do maybe one a day and if I don't get enough at least I'll have some to trade in since im honor capped now. :)

warcraftmounts.com says the mounts will be 50k honor each (idk about Frostwolf or the ram)

I absolutely refused to put my blood elfs arse on some of these strange birds.

I tried to get exalted with Undercity, which I achieved on level 42.
(Mounts were available on level 40 back then)
Then I started PvPing for the black raptor.
I got it by level 60 but I will never ever PvP for a mount again!
Never ever!

Ah yes, I did this exact same thing on Vephriel waaaay back in the day. I wanted a raptor mount SO BADLY so I started grinding battlegrounds to get that epic Black War Raptor. I actually purchased it at level 40 but had to wait until 60 to get it. Until then I had to run around on a stupid black chicken. =/ Blah....I really hate Blood Elf mounts. -.-

If you really want these mounts and the achiv, wait for patch or you can farm BG's. while doing BG's you can camp for Time-Lost Proto Drake also. you can save time and get more mounts.

Just wanted to add that while I, too, saw the figure of 2000 honor per mark as the "pay off" at patch time, I've since seen that number fluctuate wildly, clear down to 180 honor per mark.

Back when Silinrul was just an alli Alt, and extremely poor, I couldn't afford the epic ground riding mount (then awarded at 60). So I ground battlegrounds until I had enough marks to buy myself a Black War Ram.

I am crazy-proud of my ram, but I don't think I'd ever do it again. More often than not it was me and only one or two other players actually playing the BG's smart, and everyone else was an idiot. Except in AV, which was SO easy to grind because it was a zerg and that's all Allis are good for really >>; And to get my 30 Warsong marks, I played about 24 Warsong Games. Yeah. You do the math. Then again, those were the days when you could be SEVERELY outnumbered by the enemy team without consequence, and WSG had no time limit, so...yeah. Much suck.

But as for your dilemma, I'd say do one or two BG's a day. You'll earn marks, and you'll earn honor, either way. Go at your own pace and don't drive yourself crazy over it. If they implement the next patch before you've finish grinding badges, you can always turn them in easily and exchange honor for mounts. Either way it's going to be a long haul as the mounts are very special, and won't be easy to get.

As Horde, I've found it very easy to get the Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch marks, but very painstaking to get all 30 Alterac Valley.

If WSG isn't your cup of tea, hang back and try defending instead of rushing out right away, maybe you'd like that more. I tend to hide out in the little nook to the left of the flag, and lay a frost trap near where the tunnel enters into the room. Could also put your pet on stay/aggressive right by the flag, so you know exactly when it's taken.
