Mordakai's Pet Log (Image Heavy)

Unread post by Kamalia »

((Not of the tree kind.
I decided to tag along with these cool cats and create a hunter, putting his experiences in a journal form (And to finally get around to levelling an Alliance toon. >_>;). However, every five levels I must tame a new pet. I'll be using a new family whenever possible, and must never tame the same look twice.

The worgen starting area is pretty jam-packed with action, so there will be a lot of screenshots for this part. Sorry! And quite annoyingly, there are no stable masters in Gilneas. At all. So my starter pet is staying with me for a bit longer than he should!

Heeereee we go.))

Dear Journal,

We were given these books a few moments ago. I fail to see how something as simple as writing can be considered a test - I suppose holding a pen and scratching marks on paper shows that you are not a beast? Bah. Perhaps it is a measure of our patience and temper. It is surprisingly difficult to hold a pen with claws, and is making me become quite irritable. I suppose, though, that this journal provides me with something to occupy myself with on the evenings. I suppose I should clarify exactly what I'm rambling on about?

Well, a few days ago (I am told it was much longer than that, but I scarcely remember anything about recent events to start with), an alarm was raised in the city. All able-bodied men and women were to report to Prince Liam. I could see shadowy figures roaming on the rooftops, leaping from building to building. I was accompanied by the old family hunting hound, Ross. He kept sniffing the air and letting out low growls and barks, staying close to my side.

Image

I was instructed to go search for a man named Lieutenant Walden. I found him... horrible claw marks and all. I returned to report my findings, only to discover that the worgen were attacking the Merchant Square! Old Ross and I assisted in fending some off (Not that it appeared to make a dent in their numbers...), as well as retrieve supplies and evacuate citizens.

Image
Image

We joined with King Greymane. We were told to rescue Darius Crowley and destroy any worgen that got in our way. A man named Dempsey had been severely injured by one of the beasts, and we needed to fight off packs of the creatures until he was bandaged up enough to move. By the Light, how many worgen there were! Alphas, runts, leaping toward us from buildings! I can scarcely believe we survived the fight.

Image

Crowley told us that there was a basement filled with ammunition and heavy artillery that we could use in the fight. Greymane was at first perturbed by the news of rebel arsenals in the city, but took the offer nonetheless. When we got there, we came across an alarming sight - Lorna Crowley, Darius' daughter, was standing before the corpse of a worgen whose clothing fit the description of the man we were supposed to meet.

Image

We were ordered to track down prowling worgen through use of our mastiff's keen sense of smell. Ross' nose isn't what it used to be, so I had to take another mastiff for the job. Ross didn't seem happy with me, but nevertheless snapped at the legs of the worgen as the younger dog sniffed them out.

Image

We met up again with the royals, Crowley, and the other citizens. Some of us took the chance to lure the worgen away from those who were making an escape. We went on horseback, throwing torches at the beasts to drive them into a rage and chase us.

Image
I wouldn't recommend the experience.

We were driven to the Cathedral Quarter, backed up against the church. Packs and packs of worgen roamed around us, groups splitting off to attack us the moment our backs were turned or when we showed weakness of any sort. We used the cannons in an attempt to drive them back, but to no avail. We retreated inside of the church, worgen following our every step. Good old Ross stayed with me the whole time, the brave hound. He was tiring, I could see, but he was not the only one. We shot down worgen after worgen after worgen, and still they came... and when it seemed like they had finally fallen back? Disaster.

Image

The wolf-men crashed right through the windows, attacking us from behind. I... don't recall much, after that. It seems as though I was afflicted by the curse during the attack. I remember very faint things, perhaps the sight and scent of other worgen, the pain of the trap on my leg when they caught me. They told me they hauled me back here, kept me in a pen. They shoved a concoction down my throat, and here I am now. It feels as though I've awoken from a dream, in a way. Everything I remember feels hazy and disorienting, like it was never actually real. Those that are still human eye us with at least some suspicion. I suppose it will stay that way until we have them convinced we can think clearly again. Tomorrow I am to pick up a crate of Mandrake Essence for Krennan Aranas. Apparently, that is one of the ingredients to the serum used to help those afflicted with the curse to keep their state of mind. In the meantime... I suppose you will be my closest companion, journal. As clumsy as I am with a pen now.

I hope Ross is okay.

((YES! More people to join the fun. I love reading these.

I can see Mordakai should be interesting. *skitters off to plot a reference to him. Somewhere.* All of the references I want to make are in high level zones. Why do you people insist on leveling in Kalimdor? D:))

((Actually, Mordy's going to be going to the Eastern Kingdoms for most of his leveling. :) I've got a path of sorts planned out. For the most part I tried to pick zones that haven't been done yet in the other pet journals or haven't been done Alliance-side. Hopefully that helps keep it more interesting to read, hehe.

And this FINALLY has got me getting attached to a worgen character. He's officially the highest level worgen I've made... level 11. >_>
Also, another update coming up sometime soon because I got him through Gilneas today. Just have to pick out screenshots, resize/crop them, and write descriptions.))

Oooh, nice opening. The worgen starting zone made me so sad, because of the futility of your fight. And yeah, I think Mordakai's apathy fits it very well. :)

I hope Ross is ok too.

((Guess we'll see how it turns out!

And thanks for the feedback, by the way! Didn't know I was pulling this off so well.))

Dear Journal,

As I mentioned the other day, I was given the task of fetching ingredients for the potion designed to help the cursed keep their sanity. It sounded like a fairly easy task; the mandrake essence was stashed near a shred just outside of town. Easy task, my foot. Paw? Foot? Never mind that. It wasn't what I expected. I come to the shed, and what do I find?
Bottles of mandrake essence? Smashed. Scattered everywhere.
The unfortunate gentleman who had apparently gone out earlier to get the crate? Face-down in the dirt, knife sticking out of his back.

Image

I could see strange ships in the distance. Alarmed, I began to head back, only to be ambushed by - of all things - a walking corpse! She uttered something about Gilneas belonging to the Forsaken before proceeding to attack me. She was not armed against ammunition, I will tell you that. I returned to Duskhaven to share the news. It appeared that I was right on time. Our men managed to get their guns and weapons just as these Forsaken launched an attack on the town. I prepared myself to join them, but was stopped by a man who goes by the name of Huntsman Blake. He told me there was something I needed to see.
He brought me to the dog kennels, and who do I see there? Ross! The cunning old boy had survived the worgen attack back in the city! He snarled and growled at me when I first approached. I couldn't blame him, with how I appear now... at first I feared he would simply turn away. It seemed, though, there was something that he recognized. Perhaps my voice was familiar under this new growling tone I speak with? My scent? As soon as he realized who I was, that venerable old hound turned right back into a pup. He leaped up on me and knocked me to the ground, whining and tail wagging as he scrambled to get into my arms. He daresay he may have been as relieved as I was. Blake seemed rather amused by the sight.

Image

With that faithful old hound by my side again, I set off to rid the town of some Forsaken.

Image

There were these absolutely horrid ones - abominations, they were called. Big, putrid brutes that you could smell from a mile away. Damn my improved sense of smell. They were too strong to take down on my own, so we were instructed to throw barrels of gunpowder on their heads and let the men with guns take care of them.

Image
I neglected to get far away from the first one. I don't even want to think of what I might have been picking out of my and Ross' fur after that.

After we helped put a dent in the Forsaken's numbers, we were instructed to go to the Allen Farmstead's storm cellar. We were to beat back the intruder's numbers there. A woman, Melinda Hammond, came to me in tears, asking me to find her children before the Forsaken did. They were quite frightened by my appearance, but good old Ross helped keep them calm. I suppose children find slobbery, jowly old dogs comforting?
... Then again, I'm a grown man and I find the hound to be a comfort...

Image

I was ordered to commandeer one of the Forsaken cannons and... launch myself onto the ships to reach the captains. Yes, launch myself. It's a wonder I didn't break my neck.

Image

When we returned to the storm cellar, I was told that a Dark Ranger had been identified as one of the leaders. I left with a pack of mastiffs by my side to deal with her. Even with the dogs at my command, she was a difficult fight. Many of the mastiffs fell to her weapons and I received several injuries myself. ((First death. Because I'm lame like that and apparently looting 3 copper is worth facing her ridiculously fast respawn rate. :[ ))

Image

When we returned to the storm cellar, the ground suddenly shook and trembled beneath our feet, knocking furniture and people alike to the floor. There was a horrible noise from outside - the roar of water, screaming, crashing. I returned to the surface to find that a massive chunk of the land gone, Forsaken, buildings, crops, animals, and our men with it.

Image
We were able to save some of our drowning men, but I fear it was only a fraction of those who were stranded out in the water.

Prince Liam ordered an evacuation. I'm to head back to town and spread the news. Until next time.

:D Excellent Kamalia. I love reading these. ^_^

I'm thinking I should do one on a Horde character and go through Silverpine--the story line for that zone is *amazing* and is, unfortunately, one of the only ways to finish up the worgen story line, so to speak.

But ack! I feel bad for making you consider rerolling because your story is similar to Mord's. D: I guess that's kind of the fault of the worgen starting zone. Your actions are kind of shoved down your throat, aren't they? :P

I was halfway through posting my next update when Photobucket freaked on me AGAIN. Now I can't update, and I shouldn't play because I'm already behind on updating. Urggggggh.))

Its as you say; Gilneas will be pretty linear. Don't feel bad :)
In honesty I was considering rerolling anyway because my guild is telling me off for being Alliance I miss my guild :) Only problem there is I already have 2 hunters in that guild

Gilneas will be pretty linear, but each worgen's feelings going through it don't have to be the same. :) Two worgen going through the zone might have completely different views about the events happening and their journals should reflect that. The journals don't have to be just an explanation of each quest, they should also reflect your character's feelings for the tasks you're completing. :D

I hope that makes sense.

((Oh, yeah, Photobucket? Refuse to work? How about I make a new account, huh? How do you like that?! Hah! You try and stop me from uploading pictures NOW!))

Dear Journal,

When I got back to town to share the news of an evacuation, I was sent out to spread the word to those living outside of the town. Lorna Crowley was my first stop. She suggested that we round up horses for the evacuation. To add to that, the Ettin had been brought down out of his mountain from the quakes, and was endangering the horses. I had to be careful not to be seen by it, else I become his next meal. The horses weren't so fond of having a wolf man on their backs, but I suppose they decided that the Ettin was worse.

Image

Next I had to go find Grandma Wahl. She was... not the easiest person to encourage. It took fetching her book, clothes and cat until she was ready to leave.

Image

Last was the Haywards. They were going to escape by boat, but needed a hand pushing back Forsaken survivors and getting supplies.

Image

When everyone was warned, we rode to Greymane Manor to meet up and to warn the king and queen. While there, another massive tremor shook the ground. Just as we had left it, Duskhaven was overtaken by the flooding! What's more, we could see more Forsaken ships sailing toward our land.

Image
Image

We left the manor for the safety of the next town. Just as we neared it, we encountered ogres. Throwing boulders at us. I'm beginning to believe that everything the could possibly go wrong is happening. Many of the carriages were heavily damaged by the ogres, some even careening into the swamp. Ross and I ventured into the swamp to save the citizens before they had their legs bitten off by crocolisks.

Image

We retaliated against the ogres and formulated a plan to get rid of the Forsaken chasing us. While some went to work taking care of the ogre numbers, others went to retrieve the Ettin's prized possession: A tiger-skin banner. We planted the banner on the road just as the Forsaken approached, the Prince proclaiming that it was the war banner of our ancient clan. And they fell for it! Haha! They seized the banner, only to have the Ettin come stampeding down from the mountains and attack them once he saw that his precious banner was in their grasp!

Image
I do wonder where the Ettin found that banner, though... there are no tigers anywhere near Gilneas.

We continued on to Stormglen. It appeared as though it had been abandoned, and spiders ran amok on the outskirts of the town. Nevertheless, it was a place to rest and hide from the rain. Lorna Crowley found a journal and wanted to find out what had happened here, but the pages were missing. She asked me to find them for her. They were scattered about town, most of them soaked from the rain. There were legible enough, with a bit of effort and educated guessing. Ross gave me a hand with taking care of the overabundance of spiders. He didn't appear to enjoy their taste, though... kept pawing at his snout and his nose wrinkled up like a prune.

Image

Shortly after we returned to town and gave Lorna the pages, we were informed that the spiders were right back to their old numbers. I was sent to take care of the root of the problem: Rygna, the spider queen. Hopefully now that she is dead the spider numbers will go down.

Image

We went back to Stormglen, where Lorna told us she had found out what had happened here. Everyone had left to join others at Tempest's Reach, except for the author of the journal. He had noted that the worgen attacks had ceased and went into the Blackwald to investigate. I was sent to see if I could find out what had happened there. What I found was a woman - tall, purple-skinned, with long ears. She spoke of our two races being linked together and other similarly odd things. She pointed me in the direction of a place called "Tal'doren".

Image

What I found was a massive tree, hollowed out inside. Inside were many worgen, as well as a few of these "Night Elves". There was a large, white worgen in the center - Lord Darius Crowley! He told me that the night elves taught them. Thanks to them they had regained their free will, none of Krennan's potions needed. I was to gather Moonleaves in preparation for my own ceremony.

Image

When I returned, an alert was going out that the Forsaken had found a powerful item - one that apparently gives the bearer the ability to uncontrollably spread the curse! A whole pack of worgen set out into the forest, intending to stop them before it was too late. As they were busy keeping the undead's attention, Ross helped me sniff out the artifact's hiding place. We returned victorious and I found that my ceremony was ready. The elves told me that drinking from the waters of the well would bring my free will back for good.

Image

The elves warned me that heightened emotions and battle would return me to my worgen self, though... I suppose their magic wells cannot fully cure the curse. But to be human again!

It's surprisingly... disappointing. Once I had become used to my claws and new form, I noticed that my skills in battle had improved. I had thought nothing of it until now... but now that I can shift between forms, I realize how I can no longer hear or scent out enemies long before I can see them. I could run greater distances and not tire as easily, I could hit enemies harder. It seemed as though Ross and I have been able to communicate better as well - I can better recognize the tone of his barks, whether friendly, hostile, or frightened. We are a better team, in a way.

I need to think on this tonight.

((Aye, I picture him exactly like that. :D Glad his personality is showing.
More updates! And photobucket is simply causing me too much trouble. My second account went down to the exact same error message as my first one just as I was finishing this entry up. Any suggestions for other picture hosting sites?))

Dear Journal,

The day after the ceremony, we prepared to set out to Tempest's Reach to join other survivors. We met up with Krennan, who was looking very distressed. He told us that Lord Godfrey, Lord Ashbury and Lord Walden had taken the king prisoner! They apparently believed that in handing over the king they could strike a deal with the Forsaken! Krennan handed me a potion that would render me invisible. Ross was unable to come and stood whining beside the others as I left. I was able to sneak right under the noses of the citizens the lords had recruited so I could take care of the lords with ease.

Image
Take care of them I did.

I returned and told the king what had happened. He told Godfrey that it was over. Godfrey replied that "He would rather die than have one of your kind for a king!" You see, Greymane had revealed earlier to Darius Crowley that he had been afflicted with the curse, too. Apparently, Lord Godfrey didn't take that information very well. After saying these words, Godfrey ran away, the coward... ran away, and jumped clear off of the cliffside!

Image

After Crowley's melodramatic suicide, we rode out to a livery to deal with a mining town that had been taken over by the Forsaken. We were to free those who had become slaves for the Forsaken, and kill the abomination known as Brothogg the Slave Driver.

Image
Image

We were also to take out the Forsaken leaders and infantry at the town. I was asked to hunt down some stags for our meal tonight, before we take one last push for regaining our city. As Mrs. Whitewall, the chef, said, it will be many's last. I'm no butcher, but I cut the best pieces I could. Ross was content to chew on any bits left behind.

Image
Image

Soon enough, it was time. We gathered our numbers together in as mighty of a force we could create. The brave Prince Liam gave us a rallying speech, and we charged! We fought tooth and nail, human beside worgen. We faced countless Forsaken, and abominations! There was one creature... massive and horrifying don't even begin to describe it. Near the end of the fight, we encountered none other than the Banshee Queen herself. King Greymane hurled himself into battle and we worked on fending off the banshees that would come to their queen's aid.

Image

It wasn't long before the unthinkable happened: Sylvanas raised her bow, poisoned arrow loaded. She prepared to fire at our king, and then Prince Liam leaped in front of his father, taking the arrow for him. Sylvanas escaped, and our prince breathed his last. A great silence fell across the army, one I wouldn't have imagined would be possible with such a large group of people.

Image

We soon learned that the Forsaken were planning to release some kind of plague on our heads. Some went on the Forsaken bats we had acquired, bombing the Forsaken machines in an effort to slow their efforts at killing us off with their noxious plague. The rest escaped through underground corridors filled with awful, biting rats.

Image

The tunnel led out into the graveyard. Angry spirits wandered the grounds, but were soon calmed when their mementos were returned to their resting places. We stopped and paid our respects to the fallen prince.

Image

It was soon time to make our final stand against the Forsaken. Their allies, the orcs, had arrives. But our new allies, the night elves, soon stepped in to help us. They had massive glaive throwers that we manned in battle. We took down orcs by the dozen, and the elves had massive treants to give us a hand as well.

Image

As we took out the orcs below, others took to the skies above. The Horde gunship was destroyed, and we killed many orcs. We returned to Keel Harbor, where night elf boats were preparing to take us to a place called Rut'theran Village. We have boarded the boat and we are on our way. I'll write again when we land.

Tinypic and ImageShack are the only other image hosting sites I know of.

Also, I'm loving reading this. Mordakai reminds me a little bit of Roxíe. He has a great personality and it'll be interesting to watch him develop, especially with his new confusion between being human and worgen. Well done! ^_^

And thank you very much. :D It's kind of cool, I really had no idea what he'd be like when I first started him, and yet he's just taking on a personality all on his own.
