Opinions needed! Who to kick for Mini Corpse Scarab?!

Unread post by Araela »

I am in need of opinions:
Oh friends. Like most of you, I tend to watch the forums for new/interesting tames, even though I'm maxxed on my stable slots.... (This gets me in trouble!)

I have been following the various threads on the little beetle and the more I look at it the more I want one. Haha! It's just so cute! But I'm not sure who to drop... there are really only a couple of pets I use the least, and I'm trying to decide which if either to get rid of....if either!

Up on the chopping block:

Black Madexx (my only Madexx)
Lord Kri

Lord Kri was hard as heck to get, and I love using him when I do but it is rare.

Black Madexx, well, he's also a tank, and pretty hard to get, but I also rarely use him. I generally prefer using Grunter or Terrorpene to tank. I have Jadefang but I do enjoy the Squee. :D

So, do I kick either and go for the little beetle, or do I continue on with what I already have? Thoughts? Thank you for your opinions!

Hmm, you may want to wait until the patch drops and see if the mini beetles retain their small size...it seems as though they're possibly getting fixed.

How so? Have there been any official (or unofficial) comments about it?

From what you've said about your pets, if you're looking at the utility factor - Terrorpene has identical abilities to the beetle. So what's to say if you did tame said beetle, that it wouldn't sit in your stables while Terrorpene continued to do all the work? I think the suggestion to wait and see what patch does to them (if anything) is a sound one. That way you don't dump a highly sought-after rare like Madexx for something you all of a sudden might not want to keep.

*nod* It was mentioned in the 4.1 discussion thread that someone's mini-beetle was a normal size on the PTR (apologies, I forget who reported it). Not sure if it's 100% that they've been nerfed, but something to keep in mind in case it happens.

While I do enjoy the utility factor, I also enjoy the uniqueness of most of my pets. :D But I agree with you - that's why I'm a bit on the fence about this, since I already have a pet that does the same exact actions.

I'd kick Lord Kri since it's actually really easy to get him back the first boss you can defeat just using a spirit beast and standing far enough away, using the spirit beasts own heals to heal itself for more than the first boss damages. And once he's down it's easy to get to Kri and tame.

I agree with those that think you should hang on to the two friends you already have .. at the LEAST untill after the patch and then consider it if the beetle keeps its small size.
like Thalian said. turtles and beetles have pretty much identical utility.
its a shame they feel the constant need to "fix" cool pets .. wtg blizz

From what I understand, hunters on the PTR were recently saying that their mini-scarabs were full size, but still with the black trail :/ Just a heads up.

This is highly disappointing. I suppose I'll be releasing my Corpse Scarab now, seeing as I've snagged a Terrorpene. Here's hoping that they retain their amazingly amazing size and the removal of it was just a glitch.

I's sad. That little mini scarab was the only one of these I bonded with. Squeak cannot squeak at full size! :(

I'm really hoping they don't change the beetle. It's so annoying when Blizzard messes with vanity items and doesn't attempt to fix REAL issues like the hunter auto shot bug or pets randomly running off and pulling groups.

Except that the autoshot bug is supposedly fixed in 4.1, and the pet running off randomly is usually the result of critters getting hit by aoe specials left on autocast.

That being said, there's got to be some guys in your stable less painful to release. I'll probably never use the 3 Madexxes (what is the plural of Madexx...?) in my stable but I invested so much time into camping them that I'd probably never drop them. I usually have 2-3 pets that are a little fotm that I cycle through though. I mean, there's always going to be new pets to tame... might as well be prepared :p

Well....he had a growth spurt....

I can absolutely see him looking at you plaintively and giving a deep, rumbly squeak: Ma-ma?

Whenever my pet runs away randomly it's for a critter way away from any aoe that may have been dropped. I've also had one that insisted on running through the hallways in SFK ahead of us. I never did figure out what he was running after; all I can do in those situations is desperately hit 'passive' and pray he listens. It happens most with pets that chase critters as npcs (i.e. foxes)
